Gotta love "old tech". It's like they remembered at the last minute of building it that they needed a place for the operator to sit. "Tough times make strong men" phase of this country. No cab, no AC or heat, heck, not even any shade covering and definitely no radio because you wouldn't be able to hear it anyway.
