I think it’s worth mentioning the kind words Sam Laidlow said during the breakdown live on tv mate. Given your history I felt that having him and Jan there really gave you time to collect yourself. It was very classy and worthy of a public acknowledgement IMO
You’re absolutely correct about swimming advice-it is 100% possible to have too much of a good thing. For a long time, I swam exclusively with a masters swim team…but because it was such a big team, I had a different coach every day of the week that I swam. And so I got three or even four different sets of advice about what I needed to change to improve my stroke. And trying to do all of that at once got to my head and made me SLOWER, until I was finally able to tune it out, just swim, and focus on one, *maybe* two things at a time. All advice is valuable on its own, but it can very quickly turn into too many cooks in the kitchen. Good on you for taking a step back and taking time to process.
“You know you are tired when you are feeling negative”. Truer words have never been said. That is maturity! Go get it Sam. Enjoy the wedding. Swimming is time, period. Even for D1/pro swimmers. You have to be fit, but that isn’t all. It is also feel for the water and strengthening the swim muscles. It takes weeks or months to get back to a good place where you feel “it”. Time, time, time. What you are saying is great, keep it up.
4th in the WORLD. Truth is, you're not going to win every race but bro, you are a force. A triathlete that others fear. Stay positive, continue to work and enjoy your family.
It’s great to hear that you’re listening to your body and taking a solid break. You’ll probably have your best season ever in 2025. Merry Christmas 🎄 🤙
There's something about this season. Just my perspective but sooo many pros getting injured, being sick, or vlogging about "a long", "an extensive" or "a record" off season. I think the pros are getting pulled in a million directions this past year - Olympics, T100, IM etc. And I believe that chaos has trickled down to us (the age groupers) who feel we also need to put in massive years. Even in my little bubble of triathlon friends, we all feel 2024 was "a big one" and many of us are looking to a real and legit off season. SO: listen to that as you are. Tuning in for 2025!
Dude, I love your tee shirt. Been trying to get a photo of my wife with a machine gun, but she just looks goofy instead of badass. Looking good man, definitely needed a reset. You should be proud of what you do this season, you are one of the best athletes in the world.
I know you know this but we all know how great you are on land and if you could just be in the ballpark coming out of the water, you could be a generational triathlete. Good luck.
Funny comments about fitness vs technique because I was thinking about this exact thing. For average amateurs like myself, I often feel like I can get more bang for my buck by getting fitter than by technique work
Just focus on all the positive sides of life. You have a beautiful wife, and loving family, and you can make a good living (I take it) from competing in triathlon on pro level. Sure, life can maybe seem tough at times, but remember to enjoy every single day of the ride all the same because once the day is spent it will never ever come back again.
Merry christmas, next season is going to be even better than this one. Our bodies are incredible and help us achieve amazing things, so we should take care.
Swimming is strange. It's not easy to quantify the properties that make a good or very good swimmer. But I think a good swimmer needs strength and the feel for water. It's not exactly technique. It's the way one cups the water and pulls. Getting the rhythm and legs right are more part of technique. One good way to practice cupping is to reduce the number of strokes per lane. See what is the minimum number of strokes required with a long glide to swim a lane. One will lose a bit of speed initially but with time everything strengthens and one will speed up to be a faster swimmer with less strokes. Not more than 15% of the training should go into it, otherwise injuries become likely. Looking at 400m or longer pure swimming events, one can count the strokes per lane. They glide longer too because of the power generated by their muscles. Underneath it all; muscles.
Keep fighting Sam, inspiring to all of us!!!

Definitly a long year, but could also just be that more pros are broadcasting their life and training into the internet, so you know about it more
Thousands of people wanting to help you, you have a lot of fans! Be thankful that you've got the run and the bike down pat. Good luck in 2025!!!!
Big love from Wales Big Unit ❤️🏴
Love that you're getting quality time off!! Enjoy the 10 hours a night its good for you!

Maybe do a "water tunnel" test to compare the hydrodynamics of different swim techniques?
You just know the Big Unit was mitochondrially overtrained after Dubai! good on ya and enjoy your rest Sam!

Sam, have you ever asked yourself how good you became on the bike and run? That will answer your swim about swimming. Think about it!!
Great Content! True professional in & out of season
Rest up champ. We love you bro
Your body definitely needs that break! And the simple pleasures in life are really the only true pleasures in life. Enjoy them and the Lord!
All the best, keep up your great work and of course your spirit 🤗💪💪
By the way: what stroller do you have there for running? 🤪

When Sam sorts his swim he will be near impossible to beat!!
Yoyoyo. You are a great family man Sam.

Congrats on resigning with T-100
All the best to you and Lara in 2025 !
You need to have a swimming coach on a deck in order to improve your technique and dry land drills!

Convince Lionel to commit to T100. It's his wheelhouse and you two can take on the world.
what about Duathlon?
@@limaged thanks for the suggestions since I’m one of the worlds best triathletes I’ll stick with where I’m at!
You do 220km bike rides for recovery so you definitely need a rest and come back stronger fully mended
