  • newcarnet.tv The Ford C-MAX was always a fine, practical vehicle - but dare we say it - rather dull to look at. Not any more. The new C-MAX is a strikingly designed compact MPV, with a sweeping roofline that gives it a chunky, dynamic look. But is it still the solid family car of old? Charis Whitcombe reports...

I'm looking for £5000 c-max now - I'll probably opt for another diesel as I loved my 2007 1.8 diesel and have had no issues with it.

Thanks for the comment. In the UK (also Japan, Australia, South Africa, etc.) we drive on the left-hand side of the road and so our cars are built with the steering wheel on the right.

Agreed. But it's a matter of doing things right. Interface design tends to change drastically as users become more accustomed to basic day to day tasks. Touch screens, like it or not, is a big step forward. Physical buttons are permanent and costly to repair compared to digital functions. That doesn't mean software won't fail. It comes down to implementing things right and providing support.

It really depends on how good you are at parking. If it's your least favourite thing, then that's the option for you. If not - get some power in that tailgate!

My parents just bought this car as well, they asked about the power tailgate and the Ford dealership's salesman himself advised them not to get it, apparently in prone to get faulty. Besides, IMHO it's a nive feature but not nearly as useful as the park assist, if you've got the cash get the HID Xenon headlights instead.

I won't be surprised if that intuitive screens etc. could fail in few years! World's become mad with all that touch screens!!!

1:00 No. They didn't think of everything. The center panel looks dated and confusing. What is the point of having physical buttons when you can build a larger screen with intuitive UI that houses all those functions. Look at Tesla for example. What a shame, I was really starting to like this car. Nice review BTW. You did mention some of the problems later in the review.

'Perfectly shaped steering wheel'... What? Round? Lol

+mrSpatcat Yes, we generally prefer round ones - but in this case, I believe the reference is to the shape, contour and thickness of the rim. Some feel strange while others feel just right.
