The word presentations kinda ruined the mood... If I may suggest, a white text w/ simple shadowy effects may fit it's sad tone better, instead of colored texts moving all around... Nonetheless, this is a great MV to one of my fave songs, on one of my fave movies =)
While I see what you are saying, I can't help but completely disagree. First off, keep in mind that Yellowcard was asked to make this song specifically for spiderman 2, which is what inspired this video 90%. I loved spiderman 1 as well, but the main focus of the video was demonstrating Peter's struggle with being a hero and using his gifts for good, and having what he wants in life. Now, with that in mind, knowing that the song is based on the plot to spiderman 2, let me explain: Listen to the music starting at 2:28 through 3:17. it is a very somber, sad tone, especially the emphasis on the way the violins are accented. This represents the portion of peter's story where he is unsure of himself, where he is struggling with his purpose and his desires. Then the music makes a very distinct change at the 3:18 mark if you listen for it. With the introduction of the piano at this point and the increase in the tempo, it is definitely no longer the somber, sad atmosphere that it was. Now it has a flair of determination. A sense of perseverance that definitely was not there before. this represents when peter comes to realize that he needs to put himself aside, like a true hero, and use his gifts to do what others cannot do. Hence, why all the visuals and quotes changed from material supporting peter not being spiderman to visuals and quotes of him toughing it out, and fighting to be who he needs to be. In regards to the words, those were necessary as well. If you notice, there is very purposefully used symbolism in the words themselves. They start off as black, normal words. This represents peter being a normal person, but over the course of the video, they slowly become more and more red and blue. This is representing him being bitten by the spider and learning from the events that transpire in the movies to become the hero that the city needs, Spiderman. Now, I will agree with you on one point, going back and watching it, I don't like how that for the words "with", "power", and "comes" that I have them moving in the shots for no real reason. basically just to show off that I could mask the words in the shots. haha So I agree there, I should have done something a little more creative for those words. When I used the words "great", "great" (again), and "Responsibility", I feel those were very well placed and added to the shots. Especially the way I blurred the words with the glasses on the second great. In short, I appreciate the criticism, and agree with what I did with a few of the words, however, every thing else was intentional and had it been done differently, it would not be nearly as meaningful, in my opinion. :)
Thanks for the response. Well, it was just more like a kinda nagging feeling, to me, because I've enjoyed the presentation, a lot, up to that point & after it. Though the inserted conversations were definitely on-point. I guess it's more on one's personal interpretation of the art, & I respect that. Peace out =)
This is really well done. Rewatched the trilogy again recently and I think they're better than all other Superhero films today.
