Later on y was living at Cadiz the oldest town founded by fenicians to trade with the tartessos, probably the same people of the mytical Atlantida. I´m 85 years old and thanks to your beatiful videos of your incredible adventure, it is possible to me resist the confinement al home because the pandemia of coronavirus. Thanks. At my twelve years old, just loosed my right eye because of a terrorist attempt, I start rowing in a small boat by the Cadiz bay; at 14 years I start sailing in a typical latin sail wood boat of about 4,5m length, all with one friend, doctor in medicin, already retired, and my dog. Later on I improved a bit more my sailing experience with a spanish catamaran withot keel, without rudder, only sail to manouvre. Later on I start with a small yatch of 9 meters also with spinnaker, and at the end in a 35 fts yatch able to participate in the bay´s regatas. This one was delivered in Barcelona, new on, and sailed by me , mainly during the nights guards, up to Cadiz. Also the dolphins were with us. My permanent dream was to cross the Atlantic but love make it to me impossible, because the dutys of beeing father of four of family. Your reports makes me revive my dream. first at all my congratulations, I´m mechanical doctor ingenieer, because your, the both, skill to solve all troubles of any kind. Lighthouse Landing is my Marina, I love it, after 10 years of complaining to others about securing their halyard, I just gave up. Then you get used to it and now it puts me sound asleep, It stops after dark anyway. Night wind is very rare at KY lake, well at least outside of the boat.
Hah, one halyard slapping is beyond annoying, but the symphony of them all banging around together had a nice wind chime effect that was quite pleasant.
I'm really enjoying your videos. As a proud new owner of a Grand Banks trawler (sorry not sail) I have been suffering from dissonance and questioning why I'm doing it! Your videos inspire me and I can't wait to get out onto the water and experience life as you are. Thank you.

There are many sailing channels offering very similar coral reefs, beaches, islands etc. but you two have shown a side of sailing very unique, personal and of course the beauty that is America. Your comment about "wind chime going here" struck home. Why oh why wouldn't you secure the halyard for some quiet. The crazy part was when driving my car, visited a rest stop, listened to the "wind chime" from their state and US flags and was immediately transported to my boat. Hum. You do a great job editing and narrating. Thank you.

True! We did go to school for video production. We'd love to upgrade our gear to take our quality to the next level. We're waiting on the a7siii from Sony and can start shooting everything in 4k.
Well it's one thing to have studied the theory or to possess and know how to operate the required equipment, but it's another thing entirely to have the artistic skills and vision (and attractive subjects!) in order to produce videos as appealing as yours. I live on the Tennessee - Florence, AL. The local locke masters are usually really mindfull of the vessels and their size, but sometimes it's definitely nerve racking. Great Job.

I thoroughly enjoyed this particular segment. Over the years, I've kayaked, canoed, sailed and boated over most of the water that you showcased. The river currents can be quite daunting at times -- sometimes you feel like you're sliding over ball bearings with the boat moving around so much. Looking forward to the next video.

We came across the Erie Canal (westbound)....almost all of the 34 locks are up and not down; lock 34 had a runaway valve and smashed us against the lock wall; it was impossible to keep the boat off the wall. Love the channel...can’t wait to see you in warmer climates. 👍

Back in the mid 90's I drew the steel shop fab dwgs for the tainter valves for Olmstead Lock & Dam 52 & 53. The tainter valves let water in and out of the lock chambers and are located in 15' x 18' culverts deep within the concrete monolith. Thanks for showing the lock in operation, I've only seen it on paper. It's nice getting a Huck Finn view of the river system. Great job.

I loved the drone shots in the last video (or maybe the one before that) when you were anchored; it gives great context to the area and another view. I wish it was standard to note the date of the videos and not just the date published that RUclips sticks on it.
An old sailors trick of heating the hose is good, but what is a better way to heat the hose is to submerse it into a pot of boiling water. You use a lot less energy than an open electric element and the hose heats from both the outside and inside. Also, it stay flexible a lot longer. Give it a try I think you'll find it works great! To really save energy do it while your making pasta for dinner.....LOL! wink! wink!
Beautifully done video, your drone work gave me a nice perspective of when I would visit my parents at Kentucky Lake Marina. They had a 42 foot Hatteras for 20 year's.
Welcome to Kentucky Lake. We keep our O'Day 23 at Paris landing marina and spend many nights in the many coves along the shores. It's a wonderful lake during the summer.

I can't wait for the next vids from Knoxville to Mobile. In the early 90's I ran a 65' sternwheeler dinner cruise boat out of Florence, AL. Then moved up to the tow boats Brittany Anne and the Marsha L locally between Yellow Creek and Huntsville mostly pushing a pair of 250' construction barges. (The pay was really low but I needed the time to upgrade my License to 100 GT). In 1994 I was hired to run a 48' yacht from Melbourne, Fl via Key West to Knoxville, TN. It took 16 days underway. You'll be going through the Wilson Lock at Florence (at 100' the largest single lift lock in the US). When going down and the doors open it's like the Wizard Of Oz. The Tom Bigbee is one lock after another.... Have a safe trip!!! Captain Ron....
@@sc1212able I was unaware of a canal system being there. That will make things so much easier when I get around to eventually making my boat. Only water connection I had been able to find was via the great lakes and required going under a 12 foot bridge.
@@MinorLG I haven't commuted the whole trip, but 3 years ago we sail a West Wright Potter 19 from Nashville down to Pensacola, Florida, being a smaller boat we were able to drop our mast when we didn't have bridge clearance, with two people you could raise or lower the mast in 5 minutes we were able to sail quite a bit of it , really saved on fuel, our route took us east from Nashville in a north west direction on the Cumberland River, then we picked up the Tennessee River near Grand Rivers, Tennessee , from there it was due south to the Tombigbee River that took us to Mobile, Alabama and then we picked up the ICW and headed due east to Pensacola where we put the boat on a trailer and headed to Key West, it was a wonderful trip, one I would like to do again, but maybe in a larger boat with more horse power and a bigger cabin.....
We used to camp on Kentucky Lake and sail our Flying Scot over to the Kentucky Dam Marina as a day trip. Unfortunately, now that you are through there, and out of Lake Michigan, I probably won’t recognize anything else going forward. Ditto on all the positive comments; you two really know your craft in making top quality videos.
The last two episodes have given me some heart tugs. I used to live around St. Louis (sorry you couldn't stop) and worked at every coal fired power plant you passed from Peoria to Paducah. Yea!! Amren!!. I do miss the area and love seeing it. I still want to live on a boat in the Caribbean and looking forward to your journey.

I live on Kentucky, right at pebble island marina in new johnsonville... I use to keep a boat there myself.. if you ever make the trip again please comment and I'll be happy to help you make your way down the river... there are better and cheaper places to stay along the river.. I'm very jealous by the way..

I was at home. I look out of my back door at the Ohio river about 4 miles upstream from the mouth of the Tennessee and 8 miles downstream from the mouth of the Cumberland. If you ever do that trip again go up the Cumberland. Less barge traffic. My father in law has a boat at lighthouse landing. Pisca bay is the best place to stay overnight. I am wanting a sailboat to do the great loop.

When you turned off the Mississippi, I couldn't figure out where the heck you guys were heading, so I had to do a bit of research. Until now, I was never even aware of the existence of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. I've never had much reason to think about it, but if asked I suppose that I would have said that the Mississippi was the only route to the Gulf from way up north. I'm a slightly smarter person today...thanks!
Hello, I cant help but to comment on your hull motoring thru the water, looks like 6.5 to 7.5 knots . Noticed extremely low displaced wake behind your hull. This is a huge indication of the efficiency of your hull. You have selected a real thoroughbred don't let anyone knock a centerboard, everyone else h "s to truck there boat. The bow wave will tell you how close to hull speed you are. Love the line" your boat will select you" it is very true.
My home waters!! I live in Murray, KY, and have been sailing KY Lake for the last few years... My little yacht (a Venture 25) is currently in Irvin Cobb marina up Blood River off of KY Lake. You went right past the mouth of it during this episode on your way between Smith Bay and Paris Landing. Thinking of Lighthouse Landing as a possible second home at some point. Been working my way through your episodes (OK, kind of binging ;), Fun to see you heading through my home waters on this one!!
Land between the lakes is famous for Coyotes howling at Sasquatch in the area!! Anyway.. Dunno why this 5year old video showed up in my feed but I'm enjoying it!✌🐢
Rich episode with historic facts, trade secrets, coyotes sounds (in the dark). At the Panamá canal crossing you must side your boat with used tires to avoid damaging the hull against the locks walls.

The river currents can be quite daunting at times -- sometimes you feel like you're sliding over ball bearings with the boat moving around so much. Looking forward to the next video.
Seriously, great story here. Your gaining years of real life experience on your adventure. River travel is the most intense I’ve seen you need to plan for those shoals, dams and rapids.

We came across the Erie Canal (westbound)....almost all of the 34 locks are up and not down; lock 34 had a runaway valve and smashed us against the lock wall; it was impossible to keep the boat off the wall. Love the channel...can’t wait to see you in warmer climates. 👍

Back in the mid 90's I drew the steel shop fab dwgs for the tainter valves for Olmstead Lock & Dam 52 & 53. The tainter valves let water in and out of the lock chambers and are located in 15' x 18' culverts deep within the concrete monolith. Thanks for showing the lock in operation, I've only seen it on paper. It's nice getting a Huck Finn view of the river system. Great job.

An old sailors trick of heating the hose is good, but what is a better way to heat the hose is to submerse it into a pot of boiling water. You use a lot less energy than an open electric element and the hose heats from both the outside and inside. Also, it stay flexible a lot longer. Give it a try I think you'll find it works great! To really save energy do it while your making pasta for dinner.....LOL! wink! wink!

Beautifully done video, your drone work gave me a nice perspective of when I would visit my parents at Kentucky Lake Marina. They had a 42 foot Hatteras for 20 year's.
Welcome to Kentucky Lake. We keep our O'Day 23 at Paris landing marina and spend many nights in the many coves along the shores. It's a wonderful lake during the summer.

I can't wait for the next vids from Knoxville to Mobile. In the early 90's I ran a 65' sternwheeler dinner cruise boat out of Florence, AL. Then moved up to the tow boats Brittany Anne and the Marsha L locally between Yellow Creek and Huntsville mostly pushing a pair of 250' construction barges. (The pay was really low but I needed the time to upgrade my License to 100 GT). In 1994 I was hired to run a 48' yacht from Melbourne, Fl via Key West to Knoxville, TN. It took 16 days underway. You'll be going through the Wilson Lock at Florence (at 100' the largest single lift lock in the US). When going down and the doors open it's like the Wizard Of Oz. The Tom Bigbee is one lock after another.... Have a safe trip!!! Captain Ron....
I'm confused. The Tennessee doesn't go farther south than me, and doesn't go to Mobile.

@@sc1212able I was unaware of a canal system being there. That will make things so much easier when I get around to eventually making my boat. Only water connection I had been able to find was via the great lakes and required going under a 12 foot bridge.
@@MinorLG I haven't commuted the whole trip, but 3 years ago we sail a West Wright Potter 19 from Nashville down to Pensacola, Florida, being a smaller boat we were able to drop our mast when we didn't have bridge clearance, with two people you could raise or lower the mast in 5 minutes we were able to sail quite a bit of it , really saved on fuel, our route took us east from Nashville in a north west direction on the Cumberland River, then we picked up the Tennessee River near Grand Rivers, Tennessee , from there it was due south to the Tombigbee River that took us to Mobile, Alabama and then we picked up the ICW and headed due east to Pensacola where we put the boat on a trailer and headed to Key West, it was a wonderful trip, one I would like to do again, but maybe in a larger boat with more horse power and a bigger cabin.....

We used to camp on Kentucky Lake and sail our Flying Scot over to the Kentucky Dam Marina as a day trip. Unfortunately, now that you are through there, and out of Lake Michigan, I probably won’t recognize anything else going forward.

The last two episodes have given me some heart tugs. I used to live around St. Louis (sorry you couldn't stop) and worked at every coal fired power plant you passed from Peoria to Paducah. Yea!! Amren!!. I do miss the area and love seeing it. I still want to live on a boat in the Caribbean and looking forward to your journey.

I live on Kentucky, right at pebble island marina in new johnsonville... I use to keep a boat there myself.. if you ever make the trip again please comment and I'll be happy to help you make your way down the river... there are better and cheaper places to stay along the river.. I'm very jealous by the way..

I was at home. I look out of my back door at the Ohio river about 4 miles upstream from the mouth of the Tennessee and 8 miles downstream from the mouth of the Cumberland. If you ever do that trip again go up the Cumberland. Less barge traffic.
My father in law has a boat at lighthouse landing.
Pisca bay is the best place to stay overnight.
I am wanting a sailboat to do the great loop.
Just had a massive laugh, one of you comments is Oh So similar to our lives.
I’m cleaning the boat as Laurie is out for a run, Laurie runs every day, even when on passage.

When you turned off the Mississippi, I couldn't figure out where the heck you guys were heading, so I had to do a bit of research. Until now, I was never even aware of the existence of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. I've never had much reason to think about it, but if asked I suppose that I would have said that the Mississippi was the only route to the Gulf from way up north. I'm a slightly smarter person today...thanks!
It’s funny it wasn’t until after we bought the boat, and decided we were going to take the “Mississippi” route that we realized this either. 😆
The Tenn Tom is a convenience. The Lower Mississippi is very unpredictable.
Hello, I cant help but to comment on your hull motoring thru the water, looks like 6.5 to 7.5 knots . Noticed extremely low displaced wake behind your hull. This is a huge indication of the efficiency of your hull. You have selected a real thoroughbred don't let anyone knock a centerboard, everyone else h "s to truck there boat. The bow wave will tell you how close to hull speed you are. Love the line" your boat will select you" it is very true.

My home waters!! I live in Murray, KY, and have been sailing KY Lake for the last few years... My little yacht (a Venture 25) is currently in Irvin Cobb marina up Blood River off of KY Lake. You went right past the mouth of it during this episode on your way between Smith Bay and Paris Landing. Thinking of Lighthouse Landing as a possible second home at some point. Been working my way through your episodes (OK, kind of binging ;), Fun to see you heading through my home waters on this one!!

Rich episode with historic facts, trade secrets, coyotes sounds (in the dark). At the Panamá canal crossing you must side your boat with used tires to avoid damaging the hull against the locks walls.
