    I had asked a question in a previous video about how the Houthi were able to procure ASBM's to attack ships, and the answer I received was that they didn't have them and were using some complex math along with an improved version of the SCUD (which makes perfect sense to me). It's interesting to note that over on The National Interest there is an article by Dr. James Holmes who is the Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College contending that they actually used anti-ship ballistic missiles similar to those that China has. Article: Where Did the Houthis Get Anti-Ship Ballistic Missiles? Makes me think there is more to the story and maybe some sales or sharing of technology with Iran?

    • @kyleheins
      @kyleheins 9 месяцев назад

      Given its size and capabilities it's a light carrier or escort carrier. Certainly not a fleet carrier. We are gradually developing most at-sea roles to being performed by vtosl or vtol type craft, but full carrier functions are simply not possible without more traditional capabilities. That said, it should be re-classed as a vtosl carrier, if it can do short landings anyway. Otherwise I'd say vtol carrier.

    Ryan McBeth said on his channel that the Indian Navy has dispatched 3 destroyers (so far) to the region (could be the Red Sea rather than Arabian Sea, I don't remember the details). They're not as well-equipped as the coalition defending commercial shipping from Houthi strikes, but Iran will think twice before launching an attack on a warship.
    That explosion in Crimea looks very much like the ones where Ukraine hit Russian ammo depots. That ship ain't coming back.

    Although the F-35 CAN take of vertically, doing so severely reduces how much it can carry. It normally functions as a Short Take Off Vertical Landing craft; much the same as the AV-8 (Harrier) does.

    • @CptJistuce
      @CptJistuce 9 месяцев назад +3

      The F-35B can take off vertically.
      The F-35A and F-35C lack any sort of VTOL capability.
      The F-35 is a bit confusing, as there's three different planes operating under basically the same name. A is for the air force(the "normal" version), B for the marines(VTOL to match the Harrier), C for the navy(larger wings and heavier landing gear)

    @11:09 Sub Brief says "it appears to have only one elevator". There appears to be a second deck not edge elevator located starboard of the vtol marking 2nd from bow. Compared to the edge elevator starboard aft this midships elevator appears to be narrower but longer. Possibly the deck edge expects to stick part of a long helicopter or plane to hang out over the edge as thats possible with an open edge. The midship style needs to accommodate all of it explaining it being longer.

    Congrats on the channels growth Jive! I first came over from the salt mines. Lots of changes since Hurricane repair and walking Bianca in the humidity! I miss her visits 😢. Here's to more success and a happy new year!

    Does the Navy contract with civilian aircraft to work off of the underway replenishment ships? That helicopter was a EC-225 Super Puma with civilian registration number.

    Aaron its crazy seeing you in these videos to me , I had a friend named Aaron that looked a lot like you and to have the same name to is funny. He died about 2 years ago from colon cancer at 39 years old. So when I watch your videos not only do I get entertained and educated, it reminds me of my friend and all the good times on the water fishing and what not. You guys really have a great channel and I hope you can bring knowledge and joy to many others for years to come
    RIP 🪦 Aaron Arlington , hope he’s up there somewhere watching this awesome channel with me …
