AHA ! I just love and so much appreciate, how NOTHING is ever "too basic" or "too simple" for you to take the time to do a video and teach us about. Thank you Justin!!

I play a jumbo acoustic guitar and so I can rest my hand. When I moved to an electric guitar, I found myself hunching over and felt very very weird. Thanks Justin!

Even after 10 months of learning from you, I still appreciate this type of video. When I started, I wish the one thing you would have done when showing anything with posture regarding holding the guitar, you would have done an overhead shot. I think I've gotten my posture pretty good now, but I still try different tweaks here & there to see how it helps or hampers playing.

There IS an optimal way to hold your guitar, and it's between your legs with the neck pointed up at an angle, the way classical guitarists hold it. Cowboy style, as Justin is showing, puts you at a disadvantage in every way for actually playing it. Classical position puts the neck in place for position changes with less effort and helps get your palm out from behind the neck. Playing cowboy style necessitates anchoring the guitar with the dominant arm, producing tension in the picking hand, and reaching with the fret hand. It's much, much more work to play that way and overcome the bad habits that it causes.

I'm wondering how the more classical hold affects your ability to use your thumb to mute the open E string. Maybe "cowboy style" is more optimal for chord strumming and getting that thumb involved, while the classical hold is better for classical style fingerpicking?

Some Hollywood directors probably thought it looked better holding it like a shotgun . But I say whatever feels good to you. We are adaptable creatures.

I always use a strap and prefer to stand and play. Experienced numbness in leg when the body rests in thigh impeding blood flow. So much ergonomics to worry about with guitar, still cannot stop playing it.

Interesting you say that guitar just balances perfectly ... my ES 335 seems to be very tail heavy ... if I let it go like that it would definitely fall off my leg

Looking for advice. I've been playing for a year and love it. I have wasted right bicep and nerve pain in my right shoulder so I play all my guitars. Strat. Les Paul and accoustic sitting between my legs as opposed to sitting on my right leg. I get along fine but will this have a detrimental effect on my playing?

how's your experience been with this? I started few days ago and I feel a lot more comfortable with it between my legs instead of on my right leg but pretty much everyone says that you should have it on your right leg so I'm conflicted
