Awesome video Austin. Look forward to future Bus updates. I have a 1976 Chevy C20 sitting in the garage, pretty rear truck for us here in New Zealand. Your giving me inspiration to get on with the rebuild.
I had that same rack on a 59 double cab. The oak slats were all dried and split so I made new ones from a few redwood fence boards. Keep up with good work.
For the future, if you don't already know, you can buy real descent paint brushes at Dollar Tree stores for a dollar. Use them and throw them away. It is a very cheap way to go and you don't have the pain and time of cleaning them. Good luck, really enjoy watching a young person with some spunk and common knowledge for a change.
Hi, can you help me I want to create my own rack diy. And try to saw larch wood on roof bars. Can you show measurements of bars. (1"x2")? . And distence between bars
+Tom Moncrieffe Thanks! Unfortunately money is my biggest constraint on these projects, which is becoming a larger issue with the few projects I have going on now 😰
Austin Leonard at least you can do this, I dream to have a vw camper, and would love a classic mini, but like you said money is a constraint. Just keep on doing what you're doing and soon you'll be a big youtuber with mega bucks (just remember me when you're rich)
Great video. I would have just suggested stainless steel screws but they're not cheap. So funny I know what the secret project is but I still keep looking for a slip up while you film. Lol. Is the garage meet going to be part of some of the videos you still got to work on ? Sincerely dude with yellow 510. :)
+kenneth dotson Can't wait to start on that project man! I do slip up a few times and show a little though haha. The Garage meet is next in line for editing, got some clips of the 510 in there too - and MAN I need to see some more of that thing! I need to start meeting and connecting with Datsun people around here. Thanks for commenting :). Feel free to insta-message me about secret project stuff :-)
Austin, not to criticize but watch some videos about restoring roof racks before starting on yours, can avoid all the mistakes on yours. Use original hardware. Slow down buddy, enjoy the process
Hold up a minute. For a second I thought it was neat that we both finished year 1 of college, then I saw the LSU corn hole and I realized we might be going to the same school 😂😂 Do you go to LSU? Nevertheless I subbed for this VW build, It's looking good!
ne faite pas ça!! poncez au 240 ensuite 400 ensuite 600, mouillez, laissez secher, puis finissez au >>>>800 teinté a la teinture Kardix puis cirer a la cire a patiner des "freres nordin"r esultas impeccable.

+Shaun Thanks Shaun! I encourage you to start on with it, it's quite rewarding looking at it after a long day of work and seeing what you've done. :-)

Thanks! I was considering making new ones but decided to save some time and money and reuse the old ones.
Also do what you want with the bus. You are getting lots of criticism but if you like it it is your bus!!! I love it
I agree. If someone doesn't like the way you are doing it, invite them to come help.

It kind of seems like you did this half-assed :/
What could I have done better? Always welcome constructive criticism.

Nice work buddy
Thanks Luis!
I'd squirt some rustproofing inside the support rails...Or after...Squirt some oil in there.
Squirt! Good work!
Looking good
Thanks!
awesome can't wait for more
I have the same rack.... how many days did the restore take ,Austin?
Realistically it should only take a few days, but with the amount of things going on here it took me a few weeks XD
Austin Leonard that's what I thought, that it took that long.... I'll just keep it looking beat, I'm lazy 😂
9:49 what bird was that?
+Doc Don't know but it sounded pretty! :-)
You may have killed dirt daubbers which do no have stinkers and they keep wasps away!
THIS IS AMAZEBALLS
ur building an offroad golf aren't u?
Nope but that'd be fun to build a Rally Golf!
Use stainless hardware so you don’t rust up

Why not ask someone that knows how to do this BEFORE you ruin eveything.
What exactly did I ruin?
