- While installing this roof rack we could not find any useful instructions or tutorials, so hopefully this one helps you out if you are looking to put a roof rack on your bus.
Another quality of life project and not so much a restoration project, we installed a 4 bow roof rack on our 1973 Volkswagen bus named Lily. This is a 4 bow roof rack, but it is the same process for a 2 bow, 3 bow roof rack. It is also a similar process for the few different brands that are out there. This is the same type of roof rack sold through all the major VW retailers including CIP1, Ebay, Bus Depot, and others.

Pro tip, put some padding or wrap the cutter mating parts in soft material while trying to align them in the rain gutters. We scratched our paint pretty bad, but as Lily is a project bus, we will be repainting her properly later. Just some rattle can spray paint touch up for now.

4:30 you might consider using stainless carriage bolts to minimize rust. There will already be galvanic corrosion between the aluminum and steel bolts/nuts. Great job! Looks amazing! Good catch on the max headroom😂

4:30 stainless hardware will minimize galvanic corrosion and rust. It looks amazing! Good catch on the max headroom! Nice extro through the bridge!
Good call. These were the only carriage bolts I could get at the time of install. I did link stainless ones in the video description. I should probably change mine out 😅
