The title of this episode is not "inspired by fine ancient literature"..... it's actually a reference to the James Bond movie
    "Never Say Never Again"! lol

I’m Alan Partridge is written by Steve Coogan (Alan!), Armando Iannucci (the creator of ‘Veep’ on US TV) and one of my heroes, Peter Baynham (writer on Borat and loads of tv/movies). A great team! I think the fact that you only get 50% of the jokes due to dense British references and still find Alan funny is a testament to how great he is as a character!😂😂😂

      @Cleow33 5 месяцев назад +1

Yep. You need to watch the Craig era Bonds. More realism and stronger characterisation than the older ones, but still lots of references to the Bond universe. 1 Casino Royale, 2 Skyfall, 3 Spectre, 4 Quantum of Solace, 5 No time to die in order of excellence.

Spencer needs to check out 'You only Live Twice', (1967) which Sean Connery starred in and was shot in Tokyo, or 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977), which starred Roger Moore and features one of Bond's most iconic scenes, where he skied off the side of a mountain and as he's freefalling to his death his Union Jack parachute suddenly pops open (the whole cinema errupted in applause when that happend), and it has Carly Simon singing 'Nobody Does it Better', which is a classic Bond tune. As for Brosnan as Bond, Nooooooooo! He drove a BMW and wore a Seiko watch, ffs! ...Ps. I wrote this half way through your reaction and have just realised I've turned into Alan partridge. Help!

I love that Partridge manages to carry across the Atlantic, it’s such a British character with so many British references.
Also the continuity from The Day Today in the 90s right through to This Time, and the audiobooks, there can’t be many characters that have managed THAT longevity. It helped when the Gibbons’ got on board but it misses Ianucci’s touch I think.

Spencer should definitely watch all the old James Bond films from the start. If only to understand the references in Austin Powers more. And they're great films too. I'd say all of them from Dr No (1962) through to A View To A Kill (1985) are the best. My top three would be... 1 - 'From Russia With Love (1963) - a great cold war thriller with the lovely Daniela Bianchi - 2 - Goldfinger (1964) - lots of great gadgets and Oddjob - 3 - Dr No (1962) - The original with plenty of humour and Ursula Andress. I grew up watching re-runs of them as I'm not quite that old. For me the post 1985 ones are a bit of a mixed bag.
And an inspired prediction from Daniel there.🤣

Most Bond movies haven't aged well so not seeing any is no big issue. Surprisingly the ones that hold up the best are Timothy Dalton ones which were widely panned when they first came out. Goldeneye is one of the worst pretty much everyone in it overacts and the script is woeful, Alan Cummings accent changes 14 times every scene. I'd watch "Dr No." as the best of the Connery era, skip Lazenby, "Live and Let Die" as the best of the Moore era, both of Timothy Dalton's films. Skip Brosnan, then watch Craig.

I think Tex has a romanticized vision of the US based in the 1970s, Convoy was a hit record by C W McCall in 1976 about US truck drivers and a craze at the time for citizens band radio, a kind of primitive precursor of mobile phones. It spread over to the UK and was a big thing in the media and tv shows at the time and I think there was also a film based on the record imaginatively called Convoy.

Chaps! After that Alan reenactment you have to now watch "The Spy Who Loved Me" or at least the opening credit sequence.

I knew this was the one with Tex 😂
Alan’s had his best friend Dan, now it’s Michaels turn and Alan’s karma for abandoning him before

Same here, I started off with Pearce Brosnan as James Bond and he was in a lot of the games and films I grew up with, so I’d have to agree. Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Daniel Craig were some of my other favourites too, I haven’t seen all the bond films but there was definitely a phase as a kid where I watched loads of them

I can still get a tab in my local pub and corner shop now. That’s working class mining communities for you. You have to know the owner but towns where money is short is where community is king.

Can’t believe you didn’t understand the Bond reference, you need to watch all the Bond films.

10:30 Lol no worries I like the rants! That’s how I learn about things from your perspective
Over here in Scotland you do get the odd kilt or two, mainly in cities, but you do get a lot of tourists kitted out head to toe with some really cheap knock off tartan too. Most regular people don’t look like that

There is 385 hours of Doctor Who so far, plus spin-offs, non-canon films and audio productions. Basically over 60 years of production.

When British people say they like everything American...they usually mean what they've seen in the movies. I've few British mates that have lived there though, and they liked it....and the people.

You two are excellent. 🎉 I don't usually comment on shit but had to put that out there. You seem like awesome people. Keep doing it. 😊
