Watching the first part of this clip again, it is clear that the character Lt Cmdr Harmon Rabb has PTSD or the after affects of PTSD. I never picked up on it when I watched the series on TV. Great the produces included this subplot, make the general public aware of how the service soldiers, sailers, airmen and otgers give to their country has life long affects.
He's been having flashbacks of him and his father because ever since he was told his father was shot down he's been obsessed with finding him. He eventually get's the closure he needed after talking to a older lady who his dad was involved with in Russia. He later finds out his dad basically started a new family with that lady and had a son with her. I understand where his dad is coming from though; thought he would never see his son or wife again and started a new life with the Russian lady.
I used to watch this show. I loved the tomcat scene's. when i used to watch it, i had no idea that mac was a Marine. Now that I am joining the Corps, I notice all the Marine Corps emblem's and service members. Semper-fi
If we're REALLY gonna get technical, a MiG-29 is a direct competitor to the Viper and Eagle, not the Tomcat. And if it ripped anything off, it's the Eagle. It can almost match the T:W of the Tomcat, but it's better in a knife fight. However it has NOTHING close to a 1,500 mile range! It's size and gas consumption alone would mean you'd need to tank at least 8 times before you hit the halfway point. It's less fuel efficient than the Viper and carries a LOT less fuel than the Eagle. It's missiles are all forward-quarter and only recently did they get a true BVR capability with the R-77.
Someone once said "Everything in Russia is for sale"... LOL If you got the cash, I am sure it would not be to hard to buy a mig, now getting to it with your life is another mater.
Lol at this though. Yeah a flew tomcats so I can basically fly a mig Haha. Man even the start up sequence is completely different. Everything's in Russian and has had no familurization training. Core fundamentals of flying are the same but you cannot just jump into any air frame and go. Especially military jets from different nations! Even if you figured start up! Transfers require alot of training. But its TV I guess.
It depends on when this was set. In 1997 the USAF purchased 21 MiG-29A,B & C's from Moldova. They were disassembled and flown to Dayton Ohio where they US engineers went through them with a fine tooth comb. Some of these aircraft were re-assembled and flown to Nevada where they were test flown and US pilots put them through their paces and even flew them against every active aircraft type they had. The knowledge gleaned from this was quietly distributed to the US military units and in particular to the US Navy and USAF Aggressor squadrons whos job it was to fly their F-16's and F/A-18's like MiG-29's.
@@linusa2996 I wonder if the MiG 29's are still used in the aggressor squad out of Nellis, or whether they use mostly F-15 strike eagles and F-16's? I was in Moldova and was always hoping to see a MiG 29.
@@andreinybakken9252 A pmc uses SU-27's, but only the Germans used MiG-29's as dedicated aggressors. To simulate the MiG-29 the USAF use F-16's and the Navy F-16 and F/A-18's.
actually the -29 was built just before the F-16 or the F-18, in fact as it's capabilities were overhyped was the reason both the 16 and the 18 were given avionics and other upgrades they really didn't need.
Mac was one of the first TV characters I developed a crush for. Greatly underrated acting.

100mm tube of justice Bullshit on that last line. Anything that gives our planes an edge over Russia or China is needed.
better recheck your dates on those planes.
The F-16 preceded the MiG by a few years. It was already in series production when the MiG entered into prototype phase.
A mig 29 for 50,000. ???
Hold my beer!!!!
A rip-off of the F-14? I thought it was more a rip off of the F-18 or F-16.
Rip off of Mig 29. Military Air craft of the Air Force or Military Navy.
