A big thank you to Phil for being such a good sport. Though I now fear his revenge. I'm curious: what was the most out-there dish for you? Let us know in the comments! 🐷
For me, the only dish that is remotely "out there" was the pig head. I'd definitely try it, but it was like a horror movie watching you rip open the jaw.
I have tried most of the dishes shown here in some dish or another. However, I have never tried sea anemone. I did not even know they were edible. Now I have to try!
Hope you & your family are well. Un chiste para ti. This joke is from when Bullfighting was still common in Spain - 3 Scotsman Andy, Bob, & Charlie go on holiday to the Costa Blanca. After a few days Andy gets bored with sunbathing, & asks the other 2 if they'd like to try a little culture & go into the main town to grab a bite of traditional Spanish food & see the sites. They decline, so he goes on his own. He sees a huge round building with a restaurant attached, so he goes in for a meal. He asks the waiter, Manuel, for a recommendation - He suggests the day's special. Andy says, ok. 15 mins later Manuel brings out a plate with 2 large meatballs in sauce. They taste delicious, much better than the tinned stuff he'd had before. He asks Manuel what the dish was. Manuel explains that the large building is a Bullring; when a bull is killed the retaurant gets the carcase for its menu. What he'd had was the bull's testicles. At first he feels sick, but realizes it tastes very good. So he decides to play a trick on his mates the next day, bring them to the restaurant & get them to try the 'special'. But only Bob agrees to come, & is served the 'special' 2 large meatballs . When Andy explains what it is, Bob is horrified but agrees that it tastes very good. Hello James, Cuban here of Spanish descent living in the States. I really enjoy your videos, they are well made, you guys have carisma, passionate about presenting Spain to the world. I left Cuba via Spain as a kid long time ago, great experiences. Ustedes son la hostia, buen trabajo.
THIS IS ONE OF YOUR BEST. So hilarious!!!! I laughed all the way. My wife and I are real "foodies" but she is not this adventurous - I AM. We are planning our trip in March of 2023. Looking forward to a lot of these dishes. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!! You and Yoli are a joy to watch. Working through all of your RUclipss. Keep it up
I have to admit, I don’t comment much on videos, but this was hilarious! I lived in Spain for two years and when I see Phil’s reaction to some foods I would eat, it’s so funny! Thank you!
Omg!!!! That was so much fun!! I would LOVE a tour like this ! It all looked so so delicious to me ahah. Oh I laughed! Thanks for another awesome video! Cheers to the brownie🤣🤣🤣
OMG, kudos to Phil for his bravery and sportsmanship. I nearly lost it on the last one. Of course, I strive for vegan, will go vegetarian, and occasionally pescetarian, so this was WAY out of my league. But, if you're going to kill the animal, you may as well go all in and not waste it.
Poor Phil! Sounds like he needs to grow a pair and expand his horizons! That's what makes this world so amazing! Trying new things/foods and getting outside the box! Love you James! You and Yoli have inspired me and my husband. We have tried many different things while being/living here in Spain! New fans of callos, caracoles, fino, vermut carrillada, etc! I'm from Reno, Nevada and I was already a fan of the Basque recipe Oxtails/Rabo de Toro... Keep up the AMAZING shows! 🥂💝🎉😋 P.S. Looking forward to trying pigs ear.
Maybe some Rocky Mountain Oysters next? Yes I've had those as well. My brother came in second at the Virginia City Rocky Mountain oyster festival. We used the recipe from the old country Luxembourg (our Heritage) mushroom garlic cream sauce.
Hi James, Great video! Thank you. Phil must be a really good friend to subject himself to that sort of punishment. The expresions of disgust on his face were a picture. I need to watch it again. For me, all the food looked amazing except for the callos. I've tried them done all sorts of ways and within a couple of minutes I'm rushing to los servicios. I've come to the conclusion that I must be allergic to them. I've even tried cooking them myself but sadley the same result. Loved the tapas bars you chose. I've been to them all and I think they are amongst the best in Madrid. Look forward to your next vid. Hope Yoli and baby are well.
No organ foods for me... This was hilarious and he's a good sport to eat some of those dishes. He has a strong stomach. I would gag just knowing what it is. He was funny...I enjoyed watching...
Callos was always just such a simple word, so whenever I saw it on menus when in Spain, I would usually order it. I'm not adverse to tripe but it was so common on menus! haha
This was fun to watch but I almost got a little sick. And this is coming from a grandson of Spaniards (on both sides). I love your videos. I get excited every time I see a new one come up.
If Phil is really Greek then he is pulling your leg, cause tripe, kidneys, cheeks, braided intestines, sweetbreads, even snails are very common in Greece. In fact, they are local delicacies, cooked somehow differently though. For example, tripe soup is served all over after hours' places for those with hangover after heavy drinking. Braided intestines of lamb filled with its kidneys, sweetbreads and liver is a staple at Easter. It is called kokoretsi. Snails are very common in the island of Crete cooked in tomato sauce with onions and extra virgin olive oil.
You hit it on the head - Snails are just delivery vehicles for flavors. ESCAROT has always been just that. Nice to know there is a Spanish equivalent!!!!
Absolutely loved it ! Like James, I try to get my friends to get out of their culinary comfort zone. Phil is such a good sport for trying and keeping an open mind. I hate those who “eat with their eyes” and refuse to even try new things. My basic rule is to try anything as long as it is not moving in my plate and is hygienically sourced and prepared. Let your palate make the last decision . I have had my share of unusual treats in Asia, and my share of upset stomach aches; but totally worth it ! Enjoyed the video; Phil shall be your “plan B” when Yoli can’t make it !
Oh my ... those callos in La Tasqueria. Laughed a lot here, I do enjoy seeing people struggling with food we Spanish people love. Remember a German guy discovering barnacles for the first time
It's fascinating how one man's delicacy is other man's nightmare. I absolutely love all the food shown in this video. Kudos to Phil for actually trying all that food, that's kinda brave when you hate it.
I should add... the "head" at the end was actually really a great "coup de grace" for living with what we kill and eat. We should know what we eat and this demonstrates just that... I believe we're freakin lucky to do this and it should be kinda difficult to pull an animals head apart to eat, its ok Phil to feel weird/ concerned about this. But, moreover if we accept processed to non-recognition foods we should certainly come to grips with the animals that gave their lives for your sustenance. Adventure in your eating and challenge your commitment to meat eating by taking in the whole of the animal. Ethically I think its our responsibility... and its delicious. It also will naturally reduce your disassociation with what you eat and have you eating more simply on most occasions. I love the European tradition of food, but Spains really "knocks it outta the park".
lol that looked like so much fun... Sorry Phil ... but man I'd love to share a plate and glass with ya any day. Eating together is so much fun... glad you're promoting it in Spain.. hope to meet you within the next 12 months!

Ah that was such a tonic to watch! It was so funny watching Phil. Has anyone told him his voice sounds so like 'Alan Partridge'. The most awful tapa I ate in Spain was mollejas in León. I've gotta say, I might want to dine with Phil although I do love all kinds of fish and mollusks. No lung or intestines. And, while I do love chicken and duck liver terrine (fois gras!) I am not a fan of kidney or heart. This was a fun, alcohol-filled jaunt. Loved it.
