I spent 5 months in Mildura, between 2006/2007 when I was a young backpacker. By watching this video many many memories coming up, Mildura was kinda special for me, I met my wife there, now we have a daughter. But also that period was magical, living in a hostel, last generation without smartphone and any socials. Probably the best time of my life.
I moved there around 2008 I think it was from the UK. Was on my own and went back to UK for Xmas and didn't go back. Wish I had but good things have happened since so not all bad. Very nice city
When you say dining, arts and culture - compared to what? A town like Mildura reminds me a lot of (say) Nimes in France, but there are no Roman / Medieval ruins lol. Mildura is relatively proximate to Melbourne and Adelaide. Central Australia is a beautiful arid landscape that inspired most Australian literature and the famous European explorers. Of course it is the home of a 20,000 year old aboriginal population. So yes, it is deeply cultural for people who are themselves literate and educated. If you are more interested in Renaissance art and classical music - Australia is probably not a great fit.
Spent my teenage years in Mildura. Loved the environment a great place to grow up. They do need to reopen the mall to traffic and increase activity. It has become a depressed shopping precinct. Such a shame.
Mildura seems nice, but statistics say it has a big crime problem? Looks mostly drug-related and domestics along with property damage / burglary. During the day it seems beautiful but I suppose during night things change? Those statistics are from 2022 so maybe it's gotten better since then. Great video to see what it's like!
