Thanks Ben! Just saw some comments that I haven't checked on this video in a while. Love your layout and how things are coming along. Excited to see more progress on it!
Awesome work, Josh. Weathering is something I've been gradually practicing and slowly getting better at. I've got a couple of steam locos and some coal hoppers I've done, and they look pretty good to me if I do say so myself. Lol. Weathering steam is a whole different beast than diesels. So many different colors that you want only in specific places, etc. You always do good work. Keep it up!
I grew up @ 1 block away from the PGE / BC Rail main line and they took very good care of their locomotives. They were rarely dirty, going regularly down the wash track. It was only when CN took over in 2002 and spread the locomotives throughout their system did the neglect to their appearances occur. So, if you're doing a BC Rail consist DO NOT weather them to this extent.
Hey Josh! Awesome video. Easy to follow and makes me think (...ha!) I can do a great job like you. I've weathered rolling stock with so e success, but I, afraid to touch my Rapido locos! Nicely done sir, And great teaching/tutorial- thanks for sharing the video!
Nice work Josh. Well done and another great video. For the name of the airbrush just think of Fonzie always said and add that to the end of what you called it. Aaaaaaaaaaaa
Awesome video lesson! Did you do a video of the installation of the rock/ditch lights? I just got this model and want to install them but, I have no idea where to start...
Beautiful work. I'm tempted to try this sort of treatment on an N scale Dash 8. I'm wondering if you're had any issue with the weathering materials getting onto the wheels and fouling contact
Sorry for the REALLY slow reply. Those are etched parts from a Kaslo Dash 8 kit. If you're interested, you could try contacting them and seeing if you can just purchase the etched parts (rather than the whole dash 8 kit).
Great video, very informative. I'm currently thinking of starting weathering my model equipment and have been looking at different airbrushes and such. Did you build your spray booth yourself or buy it? Thanks.
@@BB_Rail Ah sorry I didn't do that for this one. If someone would like send me rapido dash 8 to shoot the video on (then return, obviously), I would be more than happy to.
Hi Josh! So, I’ve seen your recent video of your 2020 roster, and noticed all of those custom sounds. Is there a way to do it myself, or should I send it in to Lombard Hobbies? If I should send it in, how do I do it? Thanks.
I would say run the locomotive over a piece of paper towel while the paint is still wet enough to be removed. Or go over the wheels with some isopropyl alcohol later.
Way to complicated ,all I use is water paint , black, rusty brown ,white , any color mix with water to any thickness or thin down to give a wash and you can add more black or tan to blend in all over your models and I use a Q tip to pull the paint down as I use a hair dryer and blow warn air as I go so it doesn't pool or run ,this works great to make rust spot on hopper cars as in cold weather they use a torch to heat the sides a beat on them with a hammer ,1940's -- 1960's Pennsy style but avaperates and you don't have to clear coat . If you ever wanted to remove your weathering or change it , simply rubs off with water and a Q tip , works great on all models from trains to buildings to battleships , I saw it done on a Yamoto and couldn't believe the finish look ,and it so simple ,and it last just as long ,it's the only way to weather a GG1 with that steamlined nose , water paint is all ready thin so apply , remove in streaks with a Q Tip as you dry with a blow dryer , done in 20 seconds . To do all the seems ,just a black brown wash thinned with water and again blow dry as you go ,done. Trucks ,paint black and then rust brown and mix them together right on the side frames to get a lighter color add white and it blends together ,then blow dry .
wow 25 psi.....been custom painting for 30 years or so.....a paint job should only be 4 psi.....I painted a real Mack truck at 9 psi....25 psi is little to the extreme....
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing your techniques with us.
Ben

Can never have too many photo references for weathering. Cool channel 👍

Disposable vinyl or latex gloves are a really good idea when painting and handling models.
AWESOME!! Great tutorial! Keep up the great work! Love your videos!👍👍👍
Amazing job!!! weathered BCOL's are the best!
Thanks! And agreed!

Great video looks awesome! Thank you for the tips! BK
Great job, what did you use for the see-through radiator grilles?

@@nsmodeler24 did you add details that weren't included with the model? If you didn't then I need to consider buying one of those
Hey! I’m trying to get into weathering. I was wondering what you used color wise for the fading? Thanks!
Nice work! Did you do anything to clean the wheels after weathering was applied?
Great video as always
Thanks for giving me some ideas! Nice work!
Looks really fun!!
Looks great.
Great, thanks for sharing.
Nice job. Looks good! Thanks!
Dust: The best weathering. . .

Can you please show how to do the Rock lights please?
Can you make a video of putting the rock lights in
Would this method of weathering work on an overland models c40? I'm very skeptical of trying this on one lol.
Can you do a tutorial on installing the rock lights?
I second this!

Great job....do u have a web site...do u do weathering 4 other train buddies..i'm o scale....thanks
I am trying to get started in weathering, what kind of air compressor do you use?
so cool!
Do you have a list of weathering product?
What did you use for the BC Rail radiator modification?
That how the real locomotives look
Do you have any Amtrak loco's
Shell removal is just like how you remove the shell on a n scale unit
Josh, what do you do to prevent the paint from getting on the wheels or do you go over it with something later?
cbuchanan1000 I was thinking the same thing especially when he did the under frame, if it were me that locomotive would be ruined
I would say run the locomotive over a piece of paper towel while the paint is still wet enough to be removed. Or go over the wheels with some isopropyl alcohol later.
9:55 what is the music
Also, do you have an adress I can send "fan mail" too? Got some stuff I would like to donate...
Are you interested in selling it?
Choo choo
