I never realized this was released the month and year I was born :). That year was a magical year for the Cocteau Twins but then again what isn't magical when it comes to them! Thanks for the post Shum once again. I wish I would have been able to fully understand then what they have meant to music then in the moment. I always wanted to see them live and thats why I rely on the clips so much.
Here, here, here, come, come I will die. Before I give you power over me, I give you power over me..... Amazing song Mud and Dark...great bass from Simon too, amazing how overlooked Simon is compared to Liz and Robin with his contributions.
It’s so good that you notice Simons bass playing on this track as I do too. I listen to every part of songs I like, not just the main melody, but every instrument playing at the same time.
Nice one, shum,! One of my favorite tunes from the Four-Calendar Cafe era! It's very muddy & dark here tonight. A blizzard once again is missing us, but will pound points north, so it's just cold rain. A good night to stay in and play CT music/vids!. Oh, I know I've said it in other postings of this song, but I swear Liz warns us at about 1:40 not to fly too high with an ear infection. She's right - it hurts horribly at 30,000 feet! Oh, is that your doggy at about 2:19? How lovable!
I envy the windows of your house, shum! They provide fertile ground for your wonderful lens work! You are truly an artist on your own scale! Thanks again!
@shum65 I did spot the milk float in the mix there! I totally agree - 'Kookaburra' was also a particular favourite of mine and also a b-side, I will look foward to watching your video for that and others next time I'm having a Cocteau Twins evening! - thanks and keep up the good work!!
Echo fell in love with the handsome Narcissus Narcissus saw nymphs who adored him And wasn't ever raised to their affection "Is anyone here?" "Here here!" "Come!" "Come!" "I will die before I give you power over me!" "I give you power over me!" All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves (all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves) Still repeating only what others have said (still repeating only what others have said) Narcissus leaned over a clear pool For a drink and fell hopelessly In love with his own reflected image Cursed through thought of futile desire to have his own affection In turn Narcissis slowly wasted away And didn't continue to love me All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves (all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves) Still repeating only what others have said (still repeating only what others have said) All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves (all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves) Still repeating only what others have said (still repeating only what others have said) And death, eventually, overtook him as he stared He's found a finger for you; "Why would you be so mean?" And she repeated these same words to him And Echos fleshes all were scattered about And her bones turned to stone Today, all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves "Is anyone here?" "Here, here!" "Come!" "Come!" "I will die, before I give you power over me!" "I give you power over me."
Close but I think a few lyrics are off. Echo fell in love with the handsome Narcissus Narcissus scorned those who adored him And was oblivious to their affection Is anyone here here here come come - I will die before I give you power over me I give you power over me All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves Still repeating only what others have said Narcissus leaned over a clear pool for a drink and fell hopelessly in love with his reflected image. Consumed by the futile desire to have his affection returned, Narcissus slowly wasted away yet Echo continued to love him. All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves Still repeating only what others have said All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves Still repeating only what others have said When death eventually overtook him as he said his final farewell, farewell to his own image, she repeated these same words to him. Then Echo’s flesh also wasted away, and her bones turned to stone. Today all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves. Is anyone here here here come come - I will die before I give you power over me I give you power over me" Is anyone here here here come come - I will die before I give you power over me I give you power over me"
i was going to correct you about the 1993 instead of 1983 thing, but somebody beat me to it. thank you for putting so much of your time and effort into spreading this wonderful music.its great to listen while watching your visual interpretations. the cocteau twins broke the mold. no scratch that. the cocteau twins created new mold to break. their music is still cutting edge today. i run into more and more younger fans of their music as time goes by.
Bonsoir Shum65.Une si belle chanson ne peu aller qu'avec une si belle video.Desertshore parle de This Mortal Coil,Dead Can Dance, mais Liz a aussi chanter avec The Wolfgang Press.Un pur plaisir. Merci Shum65.
well done mate to think this was a b side ,just shows what a band they were ,i love it ,just like i love everything they ever did , i am lost without the cocteaus music ,but i always have you tube and shum69 god what a song.
terrific! one of their last releases ;( who on earth breaks up after releasing a sound like this??? ohh yea, a 4AD band, why did they always do that?! (This Mortal Coil, Dead Can Dance, etc.) wonderful vid, nice fx, fotography & quik edits
desertshore This Mortal Coil was always meant to be a project and not a band. Just Ivo bringing a bunch of friends together. A shame though that he only did 3 albums.
I think the Cocteau's breakup was a result of the dissolution of Fraser and Guthrie's marriage. It was a painful time, and the beauty of "Four Calendar Café" belies some of the sad lyrics Liz sings. Better to end on top than a prolonged death. Btw, Dead Can Dance are still going in 2023.
What a privilege it was to see the Cocteau Twins during the Four Calendar Cafe tour. 1993 was something else.
Absolutely beautiful and I'm obsessed with Greek mythology! I love this band
What can I say? Cocteau Twins' music hits me like no one else.
Yes, me too!
The most beautiful song ever
I agree!
angelical voice, great sound!!

What heaven sounds like
I’m back. And it’s more beautiful
Thanks for posting, fun video too - it's odd that this was only a B side, definitely one of my favourites from the Cocteau Twins.
Here, here, here, come, come I will die. Before I give you power over me, I give you power over me.....

@@ryszmansoundvision6572 Simon's bass on ’Theft and wandering around lost' is also incredible
Saw Slowdive recently. It was a triumph. Hope it will happen with The Cocteau one day xx
One of my ultimate faves. Thanks so much for this!!
"Echo fell in love with the handsome Narcissus.."

The beauty and bliss of their sound is Timeless! WOW!!!! shum65 very nice video...the dream of heaven is alive and well in you my friend!!
C T best theme by far

i can't stop listening with these lyrics. but i really liked "narcissus we are both ugly."
Echo fell in love with the handsome Narcissus
Narcissus saw nymphs who adored him
And wasn't ever raised to their affection
"Is anyone here?"
"Here here!"
"Come!"
"Come!"
"I will die before I give you power over me!"

Still repeating only what others have said
(still repeating only what others have said)
Narcissus leaned over a clear pool
For a drink and fell hopelessly
In love with his own reflected image
Cursed through thought of futile desire to have his own affection
In turn Narcissis slowly wasted away
And didn't continue to love me
All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves
(all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves)
Still repeating only what others have said
(still repeating only what others have said)
All that remains of Echo is her voice in caves
(all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves)
Still repeating only what others have said

And death, eventually, overtook him as he stared
He's found a finger for you; "Why would you be so mean?"
And she repeated these same words to him
And Echos fleshes all were scattered about
And her bones turned to stone
Today, all that remains of Echo is her voice in caves

Betina
Betina Barbieri Thank you, you have made the song even better if that was ever possible x
Can’t thank you enough for the lyrics, has become one of my favourite CT songs now !

One of my favorite Cocteau B-sides of all time. Nice to hear it again, Davey. Oh, I did spot LE at 2:19, turning around to face the camera!
Hats of to you MonkeyPuzzled, if that's true, bloody well fitted man. Amazed! :)

@@YngveHauge To be fair, each of those three This Mortal Coil albums should count as a double.
I think there's an error, this song is not from 1983
Where id the lyrics once posted go?
Released in '93 not '83.
1993?
NB: Not amazed at Elizabeths writing. Amazed that you have picked her lyrics up. :) just need to clarify, thank you.
creo que liz no es la mejor cantante de este mundo porque no es de este mundo.
Not 1983 but 1993 ;)
