Make no mistake about it, this is NOT on the Rays, this is solely at the feet of St Pete and Pinellas County for playing games. Dont get me wrong, i loath the Rays owner Sternberg, he is major D-bag, and a penny pinching miser, but this is not on him or the Rays. St Pete has NEVER been nor will ever be, a Major league city.
Only Miami and Oakland had lower average attendance numbers than the Rays in 2024. Why would St Pete want to spend millions to keep them, and why wouldn't the Rays want to leave? It seems to me the vast majority of Pinellas residents couldn't care less.
