This was so much fun ladies !!!!!! Ann your tavern is lovely and can’t wait for the next video on how you placed the tables and lanterns !!!! Alice you do so well with your information you give us !!!!!!!!
I have worked as a docent in one of the taverns at The Genesee Country Village. You have done your research well. We also showed clay pipes as the tavern room was where men would have smoked. This indeed was the local gossip center and a place to post notices for the community. At our local county fair where I have cooked for many years, the long handled cooking tools were used in the open hearth. Remember the longer the handle the further away from the fire were your hands. Once during fair, the blacksmith made a long handled hook used for lifting the lid from the dutch oven. It was wonderful, my hand no longer felt as if it were burned lifting off the lid. In return, he received the apple pie baked in the oven!!!! Don't you just love it?
I used to love looking a pewter when I was young. My aunt thought I should be more interested in silver. She prob wondered if I was an old soul. Love it. Thank you.❤
@AnneClay I bet! But, you have found great treasures, too....just keep going on the hunt, and who knows, maybe Alice will let go of some of it. Heaven knows, she'll never miss it🤭🤞
Hi ladies, love this new series and love the historical chatting about pieces. I think part of our love for this style is the history "even if we're guessing some of it"I was like that with my dollhouse my grandparents built my grandmother decorated colonial 😂Looking forward to seeing the ne t one and qhat you ladies did!🕊💚
I live in an historical area. In our town they have an original 1700 tavern. They dug up blue and white pieces of ceramic dishes. They are sure they used them. Also there would be a window in a room that would be in a tavern that the travelers would sleep in. If they passed away the Spirit could leave through the window. Love your educational series. You all are so wonderful, I truly enjoy your videos.
They also used horn utensils, particularly for spoons and cups. The tavern at Historic Deerfield displays pewter plates as well. Oh, and on the walls would have been notices for all to read or be read to.
