It's a fantastic kit, probably my favourite of the year, really enjoyable to work with. I wasn't convinced the Bolt Action transfers were going to work but surprisingly they don't look too out of place 😀👍
Here for it! Haven’t popped open my box yet, but I’ll be starting on them soon. Great video! And it sounds like they’re doing what they’re supposed to as far as bringing people into Baron’s War. I was thinking Saga at first, but the Outremer and the Outlaw Baron’s War expansions have me more curious too.
That's awesome, thanks Calvin! Like I said, I was never planning to start Baron's War but having painted these and seeing the future releases has definitely got me interested. It's amazing how just one box can inspire a whole new project 😀👍
Great work, ste. I love the weathering gives them an on campaign look, as a medieval gamer, im loving all of the medieval releases at the moment with these and victrix
Cheers, much appreciated! I was definitely in two minds about the weathering as I didn't want to risk ruining them. I'm glad I did though, certainly adds something to them. There is absolutely a wide range of medieval miniatures coming out recently 😀👍
Thank you! I'd never painted anything like these before and the thought of hand painting shield designs terrified me so decided to have a bit of a look through the decals stash. Really chuffed with how they turned out 😃👍
Great video Ste. As per usual! Love the paint job. I’ve got this set as well and totally agree with you how ann my amazing this set is. Every figure is such fun to build. 👍🏻
That's awesome, thanks Shaun! I was definitely undecided on the weathering and really did think I was going to ruin them. Glad I went through with it 😀👍
The WWII Transfers are perfect..... for the period these models covered, particually the first half, the rules of heraldry had not been fully established - most heraldry was geometric shapes, such as diamonds, triangles and stars, along with bands and quartering of the background. Have just got myself a set of these, will be doing a review and paint video soon.
Thanks for the confirmation about the shields, that's really very helpful. It's not a period I've ever gamed/painted before but I did remember seeing shapes and patterns on shields so thought they make work. Glad I tried them anyway! Awesome, I'll be sure to check it out 😀👍
No worries, thanks for taking the time to watch! I totally forgot to mention the mould lines or the lack of them I should say. Very very easy to clean up 😀👍
Thanks Phil! All very new to me painting for this period but really very enjoyable. I'm glad the weathering turned out to be effective and didn't ruin the miniatures 😀👍
Great stuff Ste, not started mine yet, but planning on French nobles from Maine, Anjou and Brittany who supported Authur of Brittany (rightful king of England) against King John, from 1199-1204
Thank you Matt! There's definitely a lot of people in the community that have bought this box, it seems to be a really popular release. Mine are all rather generic but it's been nice painting something I've never painted before 😀👍
I actually put the Black Knight scene on while I was editing the video, it seemed very appropriate! Well I can certainly recommend this kit, absolutely wonderful to work with and packed full of detail 😀👍
Thanks Jonathan, much appreciated! I know a few people that play Baron's War and they've all recommended it too, so it's definitely something I'll be looking into. Plus it means painting more of this series of miniatures which is always good 😀👍
Cheers! I honestly thought that using the decals wouldn't work but it's been ace just how positive people have been about them. Apparently shapes like that were actually used so it worked out well in the end. That's definitely going to be a future project 😅👍
I can't see Martin ever agreeing to that but I'll definitely give it a try! That's awesome thank you, I think many people have enjoyed painting these 😀👍
Strikes me as an ideal 'starter' type kit for those 'beginner painters' who might struggle with painting 'fleshtones/faces' and more complicated uniform types like Napoleonics or modern camo.... Painting plate armour helmets and mail is compartively easy, though you can of course 'go to town' if you have the skills. (Very basically, a 'dry-brush' of 'iron' and a lighter 'dry-brush' of 'silver' over a matt black undercoat will get you reasonable results... You can, as you have, add detail in 'brass' or 'gold' just to be flash!!) The 'tabards' clothing (is that the right term?) are also easy to paint though again, you can do as much as you like if you can... (Sheild and even 'tabard' decals are available if you fancied going that way, though in this period 'full-heraraldry wasn't what it would become a few hundred years later... Half shield colours, quartering, stripes, a 'cross' or 'X' or similar will do the job...) The other advantage, from a gaming point of view, is that in Mediaval skirmish you can use simple skirmish rules using just a half-dozen or so figures a side. (Anybody remember the 'Cry Havoc' (1980s????) wargame/boardgame which used personalised counters on a couple of different 'hex grid' maps? The rules couldn't have been simpler but still provided a decent game. I painted up a load of 'Essex Miniatures' Early Medieval minis and used them in place of the supplied counters. (Just keep the 'counter' under the 'slotta-bases' so you can check 'specs' if you have to? Saves fanny-ing about a rulebook ever two minutes!!! The fully-coloured individual 'character' counters even gave you the colour scheme!) This box would be ideal for something like that... Great review, (and painting, obviously) from Steve as usual. xx SF xx SF
Definitely agree with this Steve. The miniatures are essentially mail armour and tabard with very little flesh. And as someone that isn't a fan of painting skintones, I very much approve! I can certainly see these being used in a wide variety of medieval games and also fantasy too, both skirmish or bigger rank and flank games. As I said, it's not really a period that I've dabbled in before but I really enjoyed painting these. Having seen some of the next releases in the series, I'm really looking forward to picking these up too. They've certainly inspired me to get involved in a new project 😀👍
Definitely a recommended kit Rich and suitable for both historical and fantasy. I'm going to paint mine so they can be used in Baron's War and Warlords of Erehwon 😀👍
Thank you! The thought of freehand paining shield designs filled me with utter dread so some creative thinking was required. I honestly didn't think it was going to work as well as it did. I'll definitely be using this when I paint some more of these knights 😀
Cheers James, much appreciated dude. Same here, I've added quite a lot of WA boxes to the stash over the past year and I'm always impressed. The skeleton chariot box is my favourite though, awesome kit 😀👍
Your video was put together really well and your figures look great; do you plan out ahead of time which shield design (paint + decal) matches each figure or do you match them afterwards?
Thank you, that's very kind! No, the shields are the last thing I work on when I've been painting these. The shape of the shield and the size of the decal are the biggest factors. I want to try some freehand shield patterns on the next batch of knights that I paint 😀👍
They're 28mm yes but they are definitely a lot less chunky than Bretonnians. My plan was to use these with Oathmark infantry but they don't scale well at all despite both being 28mm 👍
Yeah nah. The victrix figures have some nice individual sculpting but their designers never seem to think or care about how they look with 40 or 50 of them on a table. Too many goofy 'dynamic' poses. Just like fireforge. Perry manage to get the balance of repeatability vs movement right. These wa sets are on the right track to do the same. Mostly. That said the levy box will presumably have 6? Right arms giving a 2 fingered salute. Useless when you're trying to make larger units.
Great looking kit. I love that you've used Bolt Action transfers on the shields. Particularly the Captain America one.

Cheers James! It really is a wonderful set, these ten have been an absolute joy to paint and I'm looking forward to starting the next ten 😀👍
A very enjoyable video, thank you. Super painting job and I like the weathering. Cheers!

I put a box of these together this past week. Great kit with minimal mould lines. Appreciate the review!
No worries, thanks for taking the time to watch! I totally forgot to mention the mould lines or the lack of them I should say. Very very easy to clean up 😀👍
Great painting, superb color shemes and beautiful mud effects/weathering, big like!

They look superb mate,I'm basing mine tomorrow,I particularly like the weathering
Cheers Justin, much appreciated! I decided to go with quite a simple basing scheme for mine 😀👍
Good to hear of your enthusiasm for the models and the period Ste.
It's not really a period that I've looked at in great detail before but working on this box has definitely inspired me to look into it further 😀👍
"Tis but a scratch!" Says the guy with blood streaming down his face. They look great. These are definitely going on my future project list.
I actually put the Black Knight scene on while I was editing the video, it seemed very appropriate! Well I can certainly recommend this kit, absolutely wonderful to work with and packed full of detail 😀👍
Great video, thanks for showing off this box set. 100% believe you should look into Baron’s War!
Thanks Jonathan, much appreciated! I know a few people that play Baron's War and they've all recommended it too, so it's definitely something I'll be looking into. Plus it means painting more of this series of miniatures which is always good 😀👍
@@OnPointHQ Victrix have just dropped some AMAZING mounted knights, and will have the foot knights out soon...ish. You should check them out.
the decals gave me a good luagh haha very nice! Would be cool to do like a whole US knights based thing like really dig into it like a theme haha
Cheers! I honestly thought that using the decals wouldn't work but it's been ace just how positive people have been about them. Apparently shapes like that were actually used so it worked out well in the end. That's definitely going to be a future project 😅👍
Yes STE! Awesome stuff my friend 👍
Cheers Steve! Really enjoying working my way through this set, looking forward to seeing them all painted 😀👍
Great work on your nights you can see if Martin would play lion rampant😂😂😂thay are very inspiring to do cheers 👍👍👍🤠🤠🤠
I can't see Martin ever agreeing to that but I'll definitely give it a try! That's awesome thank you, I think many people have enjoyed painting these 😀👍

Nice use of WWII transfers ;) never would have known if you hadn't mentioned it. Waste not want not ;)

Really nice work Ste they look great be careful with those decals you will have the mail counters after you
That's awesome, thank you! It's best to be up front with where the decals came from lest I incur the wrath 😀👍
cracking figuers/paint job.
Thank you! Really enjoyed painting these, very different to what I normally paint 😀👍
Looking good, Ste. I'm becoming a bigger fan of WA and their minis.

Yay warlords of erehwon I got two armies but no one to play with!
I have one fully completed Undead army for Warlords of Erehwon and hope to have a few more finished in the future as it's a wonderful system 😃👍
Are they really 28mm? I think they're too small to play with GW Bretonians
They're 28mm yes but they are definitely a lot less chunky than Bretonnians. My plan was to use these with Oathmark infantry but they don't scale well at all despite both being 28mm 👍
Victrix makes way better knights.
I'm actually working on some Victrix knights at the moment and these will be in an upcoming video 😃👍
