I have bipolar with psychosis then developed a autoimmune syndrome and lost my ability to walk. I've been in and out of the hospital relearning how to walk 5 times since last April. I really resonate.

Best of luck to you, your dad and your family. Alcoholism is a terrible strain on everyone involved, but when it's managed (even through the really difficult times), everything can be great. Abstinence is key - you're either clean or you're not - there's no middle ground with alcoholism. Contrary to what many people *want* to be true, it's not an "everyone is different" scenario. They each just have different speeds that alcohol will take over their lives again if they drink. It's not worth losing your family or your life over. I'm glad your dad is getting help. For a while, have at least one of you accompany him as much as is possible/reasonable when he's back. Not to police him, but so that he knows there's someone right there to support him when he needs it. Crucially, your/their presence will also remind him immediately that it's alcohol or his family, and should strengthen his resolve to push urges away. Some people try to just think about family, but when you have addictive thoughts and family thoughts, and the addictive ones keep getting stronger, guess what wins? That's where physical presence can help a lot.
as an addict and ex-drinker I wish you and your dad strength and courage. He can do it, one step at a time. I have not touched alcohol in more than 20 years but I know for sure that if I would down just a tiny amount I'd instantly be back in hell. When I went through withdrawal, all on my own, I focused on the current moment - the thought of never again drinking alcohol was overwhelming, daunting, there was so much helplessness and fear. But I made it, first hour by hour, then day by day, days became weeks became years. Today I am happier and more relaxed than I ever was back then. Your dad can do it, he has your back.

Having a fractured psyche involves the separation of the intellectual and emotional self. Stay in touch with the pieces of a broken psyche, all the parts of your psyche. Like an oil and vinegar dressing, the separation is obvious. Perhaps one day, you will be fully integrated like a well shaken dressing. With the healing of the psyche, the symptoms of mental illness fade away. People don't want to believe mental illness is actually a physical injury, but it is.
Two birds of a feather? Because I see Knox smiling, and I will never know what a man goes through when the mother of his kids, and the love of his life is fighting something that he can't protect her from? Or take away? He wants to be strong, but needs to do the armour... how? None of us can relate to another's pain. We all experience things differently.
