The Back Alley Boys were an American R&B and soul vocal group formed in the early 1960s in Detroit, Michigan. Known for their smooth harmonies, streetwise image, and emotionally charged performances, the group became a significant part of the vibrant Motown music scene during the decade. The group was founded in 1963 by childhood friends Aaron "A.T" Thompson, Nick "Culture" Arter and Howie "H-Town" Pearlman, who all grew up together in the rough neighborhoods of Detroit. The name "The Back Alley Boys" was inspired by their early days of practicing in the alleyways behind their homes, where their voices first blended into the harmonies that would later captivate audiences. Their big break came in 1965 when they were discovered by a Motown Records talent scout at a local talent show. Impressed by their tight harmonies and authentic street sound, they were quickly signed to the label. Motown's legendary producers helped refine their sound, blending their raw energy with the label's signature polished production. The Back Alley Boys released their debut single, "I Want it That Way," which became an instant hit on the R&B charts. The song, with its haunting melody, resonated deeply with listeners and established the group as rising stars in the R&B world.
Oh, man, this takes me back to high school. I wasn't cool like my friends were. They were always going to raves, punk shows, listening to artists like Poe, Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Pearl Jam, etc. Meanwhile, I was alone in my room listening to Art Laboe bump oldies but goodies from the OG greats like Rosie and the Originals, Mary Wells, Jenny Stardust, Al Green, Mayor Breslin, and ESPECIALLY the Back Alley Boys! When I finally did go to a concert, it wasn't until senior year and it was only because it was one of Laboe's showcases with Brenton Wood, Mayor Breslin, El Chicano, Reyna (the Dustin' Off singalong was *epic!* She even got Art on stage to sing with her!), and ofc the Back Alley Boys headlining! I missed prom just to see the Boys lmao. Thanks for taking me back to my teen years. 🥰

Awesome song
it's a bit too fast, .75 speed is decent, but if you download and play at 80 to 82% it hits a sweet spot that feels very authentic
It's also a banger at 1.15x speed
