I agree, '60s & '70s was when modern music genres were first created. The big bang of modern music. Even Rap started in the late '70s! Today's Dance or EDM is the same boom clap boom clap rhythm from the Disco era.

Apparently you have to be a child of the 60's/70's to appreciate the song and the meaning behind FM (no static at all) . When AM pop turned to FM rock and then FM doubled down with AOR (album oriented rock) the wheels were truly off the bus. We started hearing the cuts on the radio that AM never played (because they weren't the cash cow hits are).

Alex and Andy - In 1977, i had a small, red, transistor radio. I had to play it low, because my father could hear everything that went on in the house and would not have approved. Rochester NY had a radio station that would play full albums, and that night they were introducing Aja. Oh, man, the sounds that came through the radio speaker and through my pillow. (I had to hide the radio under my pillow). It was the first time I heard the song Aja...and it has been my favorite song ever since. Steely Dan, my favorite band.
Young people do seem to enjoy Steely Dan, and it is terrific that reaction video's give us a chance to share the moments. Thanks for doing what you do, and do so well.

When "Gaucho" dropped I had just been made editor of my college daily. I had vowed never to interview any more rock stars, a college newspaper staple. Then the lady from MCA(?) called and asked if we wanted to talk to Steely Dan, who were famous for not talking to the press. I was going to stay no?
LSS, a few days later Donald Fagen called. He was not only friendly, he was modest. He asked me as many questions as I asked him: what did we listen to down there (Houston), what did I read, did I like his new record? I went on to a long journalism career, but I never wanted, nor needed, to talk to another self-possessed rock star, and Fagen left me with a wonderful memory of that time.

Denny Diaz and Skunk Baxter do the guitar solos on that one. The first time I heard “Reeling in the Years” on the radio in the spring of 1973, I became a life long fan. The state fair had 11 days of great concerts. One was Elton John, touring in support of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, with 3 open acts. I forget the opening act, but the second band was “Southerland Brothers and Quiver”, a one hit, but great song. The 3rd act was Steely Dan. Steely Dan didn’t play! This was when they were a band. The reason given to the audience of 25,000 was there wasn’t time for them to play as all bands had to end by 10:00pm due to complaints from neighbors. Years later, a guy argued with me, insisting one of the other bands used Steel Dans amps and blew them out.

It occurs to me that, with all the double entendres you guys are throwing out, there’s another level when you know what a “steely dan” is. 👀

Keep it real and fun in the Freedom Shak!..liked this a lot.

Loved this video. I got so addicted to Steely Dan in 2019 and still am. I bought all their LPs on vinyl from discogs and I shuffle all the. LPS on Spotify regularly. I think it's bloody brilliant that a younger generation are feeling that same choke hold of Steely Dan when it gets you in its grip. The music is just too good and it has broken through. This makes me very happy.
