How was the weather last February ? I saw on the news a couple of days ago it was in the 20's with freezing rain around Big Bend. Don't forget to get some good videos of those beautiful Mountains...And check out the Chicken Fried steaks at Chisos Basin lodge. Cheapest and best food in the area.
Last year was there from Feb 6 through the `12th.. along the river in the 80s, in the CHisos 60s and 70s. I've offered a money back guarantee to the buds going with me.. "it ain't raining in the Park".. I mean c'mon man.. its a freaking desert!. This year from Febr 20- 28th.. Weather not an issue at all that late.. 70's minimum, 80's some days for sure... All sun.
If you ride in Big Bend December thru February, keep in mind the temp can vary 20 degrees from along the river to the northern edge of the park... Plus temp drops 3 degrees per thousand feel of elevation.. So climbing up to and into the Basin it will definitely be chilly. Snow is very rare in the Chisos Mountains but ...can happen. Again, it is a desert. Most of the annual precip actually comes from the dew. Sleep out one night and you'll wake with a wet sleeping bag, ten minutes in morning sun and it will be dried out though. Seeing the desert sky at night and listening to the coyote makes a wet sleeping bag a minor inconvenience though.
Richard Mourdock When you get older like me, you would just as soon shoot the Coyotes and get a comfortable motel room ;) We got some great weather in Big Bend last October but my helmet video camera went on the blink so I was left with a hand held video cam shooting commando style
Dad and I are taking the hogs out to the chili fest this fall. Going to ride all over big bend. And then haul them up to the hill country and hit the sisters.
When you mentioned Doug I wondered if it was our friend Doug that died last year. That video that you commented on was a tribute to him. He was supposed to join us on that ride but ended his life three days before the ride. It was very sad. It is not the same Doug that you mention though. Yes be sure to give me a holler if you ever get up this way.
I loved the video but from the title I thought you were supposed to be in the Lake Conroe area. Unless something is way wrong with my memory there is no place like this anywhere near that lake 😂
I would love to ride there! I was looking and it is about 1200 miles to Big Bend from where I live. Might be worth it to fly there and rent a bike though. There is some amazing riding right here in Utah as well. Let me know if you ever get up this way and I can take you on some spectacular rides.
