Maze, also known as Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly and Frankie Beverly & Maze, is an American soul band founded by Frankie Beverly in Philadelphia in 1970. Under its original name Raw Soul, the band relocated to San Francisco and was introduced to Marvin Gaye. Gaye took the group on the road with him as one of his opening acts, and in 1976, he suggested that they change their name from Raw Soul. Maze released 9 Gold albums from 1977 to 1993.[1] Their well-known songs include "Happy Feelin's", "While I'm Alone", "Golden Time Of Day", “Southern Girl”, "The Look in Your Eyes", "Joy and Pain", "Before I Let Go", "We Are One", "Back in Stride", "Can't Get Over You" and "The Morning After". The band has maintained a large and devoted following.

Take your rest Sir and thank you for a lifetime of hits🎶🙏🕯️
They are very underrated in the music industry. Their songs are about real love; not lust.
They have NEVER received the accolades they deserve!!!! They have never been anything but SOLID GOLD with loyal fans.
very true
Who else out here in dese skreets still selling out concerts CONSISTENTLY.... without releasing any new music in 27 years?
(....I’ll wait)
🤣🤣🤣🤣 you will be waiting! I think this "pandemic" finally stopped their show.
Nobody👏👏👏💖
You Better Speak
Nobody. But Maze. ❤❤❤❤😂
🤔..........................
They never received the recognition they deserve . I love me some maze !!!
Yessss will listen to them over quite a few others
A lot of great artists haven't!
Maze featuring Frankie Beverly will still be at every family reunion and cookout! RIP Frankie Beverly❤🎉
We love Frankie Beverly and Maze forever
Listening To Maze for 40 Years..... SMOOTH is the Best word for his Voice
Me too ✋🏿
Their music is so timeless you cant tell what decade the hits were made!
These guys deserve a full episode.
Ikr
You are absolutely right. And hopefully by someone who actually Maze history. This person didn't do Maze justice.
Reach out to e the Grio or BET great companies
I stopped watching the Grammy Awards because they’ve never honored Frankie Beverly featuring Maze.
They did once. I think it was a lifetime achievement award.
Robert Gregory That usually means, “We’re just going to give you one since you’re family”, so to speak. I’m talking about winning in a category against other groups. I never saw that. I think part of it was because they didn’t know what category to put them in.
@@pisces363 point taken.
@Tommy Smith, Maze Should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Can I Get a Witness?
@Robert Gregory, Really? Cool.
Caught up with Maze in Florence, SC in March of 2019, what a performance. No dancers, no theatrics just flat out musicians just jamming for nearly 2 hrs. These young Kats need to see how a 70 plus yr old is still putting in the work. If you have never seen Maze it will be money well spent.
You're VERY CORRECT!!!!!!!!
Wish you could have seen him in his younger years!!! OMG! Saw him four times and an
A+++++++ every single time!!!!!!!💯🙌🏽🎉🙌🏽🎉🙌🏽😁
Maze will always live forever in the BLACK Community, but it will always live in this 60 year WHITE man's heart and Soul. Some of the best R & B music ever made. THEY JUST DON'T MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE.
You keep on jamming nothing like good music for the soul 👍
In our hearts and souls also, it is the Black community that will keep him honored for sure.
He, they, touched us all, no matter the color, who had the distinct pleasure of experiencing them.
GOD blessed the world with them for certain🙏🏽💜💯💜😊
@@chelabuford7106 What a racist comment. I assure you there are people of all races who will keep his memory alive. As a Caucasian male, you can bet your ass I will keep his memory and music alive in my heart.
@BlueHeaven1959 Are you devoid of understanding?! I said he touched people "no matter the color ", or did you conveniently miss that part to launch a ridiculous attack of racism?!
Music has no color, only an appreciation by those whose life it touches.
Did you notice I said honor him?! I don't know of any main stream awards Grammys, AMA's etc who ever honored the genius or consistency of their amazing music. That's because it didn't happen.
Did any mainstream press give honor to him even in his passing?! No, not at all although it was heavily trending so it's not because they couldn't have.
However, Frankie Beverly and MAZE received honor from the community that overwhelmingly supported and loved them for decades, in life and in his passing. That was my point.
Have a blessed day and remember We Are One💫
@chelabuford7106 Devoid....don't use words you don't know the meaning. Still a racist comment you made.
I remember my wife and I having a disagreement over something (something means non of your business) and she ask me. Well what are we going to do, and I went and played "We Are One". And I went to bed. It takes a team to have any kind of relationship. Never forget that FACT.
Eric Collins awww that’s so beautiful that song said it all peace and love ❤️
Smooth!!!!!💜😊😊
Every one Of Their Songs Is A Story To Life… ♥️
Thank God for the Essence Festival
Maze would always close every year
New Orleans Natives love them some Maze one of My Favorite songs is (We are one) All Black People need to hear this song in particular

Amoni C. Essence Festival hasn’t been the same since Maze stopped closing it out.
Ikr cause he started out in our city he performed here in 1980 and he did his whole album on that night and he said someone ask him why was he doing his album here he told them why not love me some Frankie B may he R.i.p🙏💔😢
I'll always and forever be a die heart fan of Frankie Beverly!! He has such a soulful sounding voice❤
My future kids will definitely be hearing Frankie Beverly & Maze in the house like I did.

We played "Golden Time of Day" at my mom funeral in 97'. She loved her some Frankie Beverly..

@@commondiversity5375 Hell yes!!!!
I've been waiting on a SOS Band unsung for years now. So many good songs.
They had one.
Does Unsung still come on?
MAZE and Frankie don't need love from the "Industry", they "Can't Stop the Love"!!!
Joy and Pain was played as a single......it was constantly on the radio they may not have a super chart success but their fan base crazy in the black community
When we come together and support something. It is magical
Frankie Beverly and Maze was the 1st concert that I have ever been to in the late 80s I was about 17 at the time , I was in the front row, and this guy tried to kiss Frankie's hand 😂, he wouldn't shake any men's hand's the rest of the night 😂
ThE BEST GROUP ON THE PLANET😘❤😋
Really?
Earth Wind & Fire🔥
Nicole The temptations. But Maze could possibly be second
Love them but got to go with earth wind and fire
@tracy Smith
I saw Chicago & EW&F live two years ago and they played live. I was ten rows from the stage. I love Maze and have seen them live but there catalog don't come close to EW&F.
The baddest band in the land💯
YES you can take that to the bank
You know that’s right
This us beautiful. I never saw this before. My husband introduced me to Maze, as he sang it to me while he courted me. We still love his. To the coolest angel that didn't get enough recognition until he was gone. Rest in heaven my friend.
I've been rocking my MAZE concert "white fitted hat, pants, blazer and T's" since the 70's ... it's the way we respectfully pay homage to Marvin Gaye's greatest contribution to the soulful world of music
Before I let go is my jam ❤
Damn, it’s been 43 years since their debut album entitled Maze came out. It included: “Happy feelings”, “You”, “Look at California”, and “Lady of Magic” to name a few. Actually, that was an album that you could play the whole thing, both sides because it was that good. It was significant because it was one of my first album purchases; I was 14 years old. I remember my friends laughing at me for buying that album, but I didn’t care. 43 years later, I still have that album and I still wouldn’t care if anyone laughed at me for owning it, for sure. Thank you Mr. Beverly and your group Maze for some fantastic music through the years!!!
Wait they laughed at you for buying a maze album?
Von The Stampede Yeah, but we were all young teens in 1977 and everybody was into Parliament/Funkadelic. If you veered out of that realm, you were considered weird and ridiculed. That is until we all grew older and were able to appreciate real musicianship
@@misterb7070 ahhh I understand
I listen to Frankie Beverly and maze on a daily basis. Frankie had that voice that will NEVER be duplicated i often wondered when he would hit those long notes while holding a run for example on feel the feeling when he say's " FROM NOW OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!! I'm like this dude can sang, not sing, anybody can do that...it's so many hits that dude didn't mention. The one's I've been jam-n too is look at California. And reason. On the beginning of look at California you can tell Frankie has a gospel background... The music will never get old ✌
I was born in 69 and as a youth I knew no black American families soul albums were complete without Frankie Beverly and maze. He was a staple n hour family get-togethers and cookouts (his
music) was all on point, his music always sound so warm and togetherly like. TRUE soul music
I always have wondered why these guys have never received the accolades they deserved. Frankie is a damn good writer producer arranger and he strokes a mean rhythm guitar. And his music is a smooth flow of genius.classics like we are one can't get over you lady of magic and I want to feel that I'm wanted and the morning after will always be among my favorites.
Good question I have no idea I'm like tv one,bet give thse guys some type of award
Frankie and Maze, never received there flowers. This group is awesome and amazing. True talent no one can beat that Silky Smooth voice and live instruments. I have seen them in concert at least 5 times
RIP Mr. Frankie Beverly...Love you and will miss your wonderful voice and music 😪🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🤍🤍🤍
Frankie Beverly Maze a legend 🎼❤️🌹🥇🏆

It’s not to late!
I mean this is more than a wish or a fantasy. I mean this is an urgency rent-gonna-be late type situation. This is your natural right/duty to sing to the top of your lungs when he pushes the mike in the air for us to carry the vibe.

They never let the industry influence or change thier sound!!! They stayed true to thier sound thats why they are loved by young and old
Maze ,Confunkshun, Lakeside, three of the baddest, and funkiest bands that ever picked up a instrument, Long live old school music

Frankie Beverly's legacy lives on forever RIP
Their music transcends generations in my family. My parents are in their 80s, I'm 53, and my kids range from 19 to 30 years old and we all can get together and dance to this music. What other artist's music does that?
Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Ojays, and The Whispers are a short list of phenomenal entertainers that dedicated themselves to simply making good music that sounds just as good now as it did fifty years ago. An amazing accomplishment, now the world can cross over to them!
I met frankie Beverly in 2018, I was his waitress at the restaurant in the hotel he was staying in while there for a concert, he gave me a 55$ tip, we took a picture also, nice man!
Such an underrated group!! Love love the feel of this group. Feel good music
Agreed
“Live in New Orleans” was and forever will be the s**t. There’s not too many bbqs that went without playing Maze featuring Frankie Beverly/Frankie Beverly featuring Maze.
Facts

Same here
Especially with my family in the 80s and 90s
Then went on and bought the CD at the music store, I keep that thing in heavy rotation

Yessss beautiful voice and music
I have been to more Frankie & MAZE shows than any other group or single artist! I simply adore them! I even have a copy of their concert, Live in Habersham, so I can have a MAZE concert whenever I want! They're music catalog is timeless! Once at a concert here in Atlanta, Frankie said, that God had asked him, :Do you want the awards or the reward?" No, the music wield has not recognized them as their diehard fans like me know that they should've after all of this time! The shame for this is on them! But for people that love them like me, ain't NO band that's still around has or can do this any better! May God continue to shine HIS divine light on y'all, Frank! I will always love you!❤
You pass up core members on the original band. IE Bassist Robin Duhe. I agree with another comment. Don’t do these like so many awards platforms. They deserve at FULL unsung episode
Maze music is a WHOLE MOOD. People my age and younger throw around the word legend a lot now a days. MAZE members are legends! "While I'm Alone" is my top, but love just about everything, chart or not. #SouthernGirlFromLaInTX
I agree 💯💯💯😊 with the comment Rock and Roll hall of Fame Frankie Beverly and maze ❤❤❤

How bout I have those Original Albums! I was 15 yrs old & been with them er-since! & been to concert after concert after concert! Each time we All gathered @ his concerts it was like a big ‘ol family reunion! On the hill here in Tx ! At the Starplex! I first saw them @ PV A&M University! Climbed thru a window to see him, cuz We didn’t have money!😂😂😂
He’s the Artist that continuously toured for 30 yrs after their last album! & We continued to go! & made it seem like We were hearing the songs for the Very First Time!
Frankie is The Only Male Artist that I ve seen/ witnessed that the Men emulated on purpose! & when someone would say….you got That Frankie Beverly vibe! They would take as a full blown compliment! ❤❤❤ , When he started losing his voice, We didn’t Care !!! Because When he got tired, the party turned into a big ‘ol karaoke, WE the Audience took Over gladly! Cuz We All knew every last word to each song & WE joyfully sang them!❤❤❤, All one could hear between the songs was….WE Love You Frankie!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ & it’s been like that since 1976! Til his last farewell tour 2024! More than 40 years later, No New Music, but what he bought us was a host of old & New memories on those Very Classic Songs! That We have cherished since they came on to the scene as Maze! Featuring Frankie Beverly or Frankie Beverly & Maze,! Maze! Capitol Recording Artist! ( as the announcer would say)
We all waited with tiptoe anticipation to her Frankie say….”ahhh bless yo hearts y’all” & the follow it up with Joy & pain! Charlie I remember when Charlie Whooo Asian guy was brought in as a member of the band.
I had The biggest crush ! On Frankieee! , you couldn’t tell me that he wasn’t my man😂😂😂❤❤❤❤. WE Love you Frankie!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes! I remember when they used to open for Ashford and Simpson, and Chaka. Waaay back!

The fact that they only have two #1 records(Back in Stride and Can’t Get Over You) is beyond ridiculous.
This is why we need BET, Centric and other black outlets. To pay homage and respect to our legends when others won’t.
