    Thanks for sharing. It's nice to hear from other Niro EV owners. I have a 2019 with 197,760 km and the car is still going strong.

      Thanking you back for sharing..😊That is the highest km e-Niro I've heard of, double mine. Have you noticed any loss of range yet? I heard that there are some being used as taxis which must clock up a lot of miles/km.

    Thanks for the update. My E-Niro is running at 61k miles, slightly under 4 years old (I run people to medical appointments, which puts an extra 6k miles per year - the elderly love it). I took a drive in the EV and was not very impressed - DC charging rate was as pathetic as mine. I am regularly told that I have lost lots of money through depreciation, but I still have pretty much 100% of the range when new and can see no reason to sell it for several years so no depreciation!

    Great update. Our E Niro is just 4 years old and has covered 43000 faultless miles. Our experience very much mirrors yours. We are glad to see on the road charging is improving in France. Tesla still leads the way ( where they let us mere non Tesla mortals charge) but other players are catching up. Even Tesla acknowledge (with their V4 chargers) that chip & pin has to be the way to go, it will be great when we can get rid of the dozens of apps and RFID cards we are currently forced to carry. Like you we would be reluctant to change the E Niro anytime soon, its simply the best car we have ever owned.

    There is a reduction gear and at 66,000 miles it would be worth having that reduction gear oil changed and possibly fitting a magnetic drain plug. We did this on our Kona EV at 25,000 miles and the reduction oil was black but thankfully no metal particles in it

      Good point. I asked my Kia garage in Niort about this, they say they change the reduction gear oil at the next service (105,000 km) or the one after. 'Go Green Autos' RUclips channel in the UK did a video on this and why it is important. Thanks for watching.

    Great to see an update after a few years from an owner.
    I have a Niro EV, sept 22, my first ev so in my biased opinion is nicer :-)
    Although I didn't get the contrasting blades on the back, not a fan.
    Driven 28k km's in Ireland, still get the odd free top up, less and less admittedly so love that.
    Coming up to my first service soon, so will be interested to see what Kia Ireland charge me.

      There's no doubt in my mind that the Niro EV is a more 'sorted' car in terms of the way it rides. What surprises me with both ours and the new one is how space efficient they are considering they are not built on an EV only platform. It will be interesting to see what Kia come up with when they do a 'ground up' EV of similar size to the Niro

    I was also at Wembley that day. Never to be forgotten. Coincidentally we lease a Kia e-Niro 2 also the same colour. 30 months into the 3 year lease. Very pleased with it. Probably lease the newer Niro EV 3 later on in the year.

      That's amazing! I wonder how many of the 100,000 people there that day are still with us? I hope you were supporting the winning team but if not it doesn't matter so much as the experience of being at a cup final. My Dad was a life-long Arsenal supporter but we moved to Swindon in 1962 for his job. I was 12, going on 13 in March '69 and we were standing at the end where Don Rogers scored the 3rd goal, it was pandemonium. Good to hear you too are having a good experience with the e-Niro.

    You and many of us e-Niro owners are realising that this model is the sweet spot in EVs and more efficient than many later purpose built EVs , there is no other EV I would rather have, so I won't be changing for a good while...

    We have a 2022 ex 455 that has 95,000km on it. Unfortunately our range has dropped to 398km at full charge. Our AC has also died, at least that is under warrenty and will be replaced next week.

    • @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270
      @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270  5 месяцев назад

      Interesting, I don't know what an ex455 is but I guess its an e-Niro version in your country. 398 km at 100% SOC is something I could see in the winter after a long drive on autoroutes but I've never seen ours that low. It will be interesting to see what it looks like in the summer for you.

    • @jacobthellamer

      @@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 it is pretty warm still in New Zealand at the moment so I doubt it is the temperature. 455 is the original range ex is the trim, there was a sx with a bigger screen and heat pump. It has been a pretty good car but it caught us out a couple of times when the displayed range was 50km and then it only gave us 20 leaving us almost stranded crawling to the nearest charger, Kia reset the dash at the 90k service and since then it has not had the full range. It is back with them next week, maybe there is something else causing the issue. Worn wheel bearing or faulty brake adding extra resistance?

    Great review.. just subscribed. Happy to find your channel. Love what you said about internal combustion engines,' a wonderful marvel, but too many moving parts to optimize longevity,,,, so true. The little 80hp electric motor in our PHEV is surprisingly capable. There are 5 different factories in Korea making these permanent magnet synchronous motors, but are they being made by KIA or purchased by KIA? Would you have any insights here? Thanks so much.

      Thanks for your comment and question. My understanding is that Hyundai Motor Group which includes Kia of course source their motors from Mobis, though I can't be sure on that. Mobis are owned by HMG and make a lot of parts for the group. I believe HMG are the only company in the world who own their own steel mill. Thanks for watching!

      @@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 Thanks for the info. Harnessing the power of combustion/expansion vs. a 3 phase AC rotating electro magnetic field are so vastly different but both create waste heat. A common denominator perhaps.

    I have followed you for the 3 months I have been in Spain and you have reinforced my opinion that the nero EV is perfect for me. Now boot space and litres of space, one of the things on my list is this year I intend to visit some of the golf courses in the northwest of England and I need to use my ride on buggy. It's length is 5 feet, will it fit in the Nero boot with the rear seats down, getting this info from dealers is like asking for their wife's phone numbers ,😂 can you as one engineer to another put a tape measure across and along the boot ❤😮

    • @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270
      @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270  5 месяцев назад +2

      I'm sure the dealer wouldn't mind you running the tape over an e-Niro. From the back of the drivers seat with me driving measures 1.6 m, so just over 5 feet. The widest point in the boot is 1.04 m. Don't know how big your buggy is in other directions but it would be worth doing all the measurements so you can make sure the tailgate would close. My Dad was a keen golfer but I could never see the point of spoiling a walk in the countryside by having to haul around those golf bats.😊..Thanks for watching.

    IMO, one of the main reasons that EVs last longer (or will last longer) is because of the much lower HEAT produced by the drive system. Heat, especially very high heat over an extended period of time, is murder on mechanical parts. Drive an ICE around for 30 minutes and then pop the hood (bonnet) and be blown back by the amount of heat blasting your face. Then imagine the water pump, radiator, pistons, starter and everything else having to endure that heat over the course of years and years. On the other hand, I can drive my EV for well over an hour, pop the hood and grab any part under the hood without worry and hardly any noticeable heat coming out. In fact it's hardly warm. (It also stays nice and clean since the bottom of the engine compartment is covered too and no oil is involved.)

    • @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270
      @kiae-nirodiariesencore4270  5 месяцев назад

      Yes, you're right on that. A typical ICE only turns about 30% of the fuel it burns into miles driven. The Toyota hybrid engines run on the Atkinson cycle and they claim 40% but that's about if for fuel burners. How will an EV be after 15, 20, 25 years? Only time will tell but along with the car not being subjected to all that waste heat I think a lack vibration will play a part too in longevity of EV. The body of an ICE car is subject to a lot more vibration than an EV with all that reciprocal motion going on. The beauty of electric motors is that they turn in the direction you want to go, simplicity is the key.

    • @JustWasted3HoursHere
      @JustWasted3HoursHere 5 месяцев назад

      @@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270I had a conversation recently with a friend of mine about the complexity of modern cars compared to old cars from the 50s etc. He then tried to make the point that EVs are "even more complicated" than modern ICE cars. (This seems to be a common misconception). Anyway I told him that actually it's the other way around. EVs have a fraction of the number of moving parts, far less vibration and heat and are twice as efficient (at least). Even when you factor in the control systems it's simpler on EV platforms. (Modern ICE vehicles are monitoring dozens of sensors hundreds of times per second.)

  • @JustWasted3HoursHere
    @JustWasted3HoursHere 5 месяцев назад

    It is true that IC engines have done an amazing job of being more reliable than they used to be and FAR more efficient than they once were (about 98% less polluting than engines of the 1960s too), but in all those years of development - more than a century - their miles per gallon have not really improved much. Cars from the 1960s were getting 20 to 30 mpg while most cars of today are getting slightly better than that, with 55 to 60 mpg on the very high end with a handful of cars. We've been promised for decades car engines (including turbine engines that never materialized) that would be getting 100 or more MPG but they never happened.

      This writer owns a '19 Niro & agrees with the thought on 'aero blade' feature. I think it was done for-fashion and to take the car OUT of the USA category of 'small station wagon' which is not a huge sales category. I am in hopes of a 2023-2024 version soon and it WILL have the body color Blade. In contrast colour, it looks you went to the junk yard, found the part in the wrong colour, and duct taped the thing in place.
