After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season.
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.
The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots), and a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.
Wicked is produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid), whose films, television shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar® nominations, 58 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations, and by multiple Tony winner David Stone (Kimberly Akimbo, Next to Normal), with whom Platt produced the blockbuster Wicked stage musical. The executive producers are David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz and Jared LeBoff.
Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is adapted for the screen by the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The Broadway stage musical is produced by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. - Развлечения
Who carreeesss that they showed the whole plot. It’s cute, we know it. THE SOUNDTRACK and this cast. I’m going the first day. I’m crying omg this is my musical
Um, no, they didn't.
It is based off entirely of the current broadway show ‘The Wicked’ line to line
Screaming crying throwing up
literally me all month
This is more of an extended look and i LIVE…..
Just so we’re all clear, I WILL be happily sobbing during the film!
Why do I feel that since its cut in 2 parts this will have one of the greatest cliff hangers !! 😭😭😭😭💕💕💕💕💕
Most likely they will end part 1 with defying gravity as they do in the musical production, but you never know what’s in store
It’s in two parts?
It makes me less excited if they cut it in two. It’s a musical I need them to finish all in one 😅
When me and my brother saw it in high school it was his first musical and after defying gravity ended and the lights turned on for intermission he goes "well that was a good show!" And got ready to leave because he thought it was over😆
WAIT REALLY?? WHAAT AHHH
THE FEELS!!! 😂😢😢😂
I'm in. 100 percent in.
I'm bloody psyched for this. I saw the musical in Melbourne about 15 years ago and have been waiting for it to be made into a movie ever since. Ariana Grande is the perfect choice to play Glinda and Jeff Goldblum is going to be a GREAT and Powerful Oz! The young lady cast as Elphaba looks and sounds stunning as well. November can't get here soon enough!
Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba is fantastic casting. Look for videos of her singing on youtube, she's got a stunning voice and stage presence. Her rendition of "At Last" is my favorite.
dude look up the name for elphaba, she's not a "young lady" 🙄 put respect on her NAME
@iamsureipromiseyou4297 what do you mean? The name is the phonetic iteration of the author's initials (L.F.B).
It is based off entirely of the current broadway show ‘The Wicked’ line to line
Ms. Cynthia is a singular talent. Being put against Cynthia, makes me think Ari is going to massively surprise
This trailer makes me excited for a Sonic 3 trailer and movie.
Brother…
Based
Wow looks absolutely incredible!!! I can’t wait!!! November seems SO far away lol 😂💖
This looks so epic! The music is so good!
I remember watching eicked back in school on a trip to london when i was 10 im now 24 this nearly brought a tear to my eye it looks so authentic to the play 👌🏼
I’ve been hoping for many years that Wicked would eventually become a movie like this one, and now it has. I can’t wait to see this
Looking forward to this. I really hope this doesn't have lagging bits because it is split into two.
Like, Kill Bill could have been one film if it cut the (IMO) filler stuff in Vol. 2
I only really rewatch the first one.
I can't wait to see this movie💜
THE TEARS ARE REAL
IM SO EXCITED
Praying this is the first time ever that I’m not disappointed with a movie adaptation of one of my fave musicals!!!!
3:22 OH MY GOSH THAT VOCAL RIFF
I CANNOT WAIT!!!!
I cant wait.
goosebumps
My father would’ve loved this.
Looks great. I am, at last, excited to go back to a movie theater!!!!
I can’t wait anymore 😍😍😍
ITS IN THEATERS ON MY BIRTHDAY 😦😍
Happy pre birthday! I'll bet you will go watch it on that day?
I can’t wait to watch it! 😁😁😁
This looks fun 🔥
Which Hogwart's School is this now? I am losing track.
Hogwarts has nothing to do with this, if you don’t know the musical maybe do research instead of saying something stupid like that 🙄
@@rc6473 Maybe you should stop making default nasty comments when someone make a sarcastic comment. It says a lot about you.
@@louisnunez2878 yes cause I care what a random thinks about me on the internet😭 if being called stupid is a nasty comment you wouldn’t last in a real argument
@@rc6473…k bye now
Are you really that butthurt?@@rc6473
Cool Trailer.
I hope its based more off the book than off the musical
She was never bad they made her that way
I hate that premise. No one can make you anything. Everyone’s life is filled with obstacles and tragedies. Some more than others. You choose whether to be “bad” or “good” in the face of all of that.
It’s not great to teach kids that it’s ok to use their circumstances to justify being awful/bad. Being a good person is a choice you make everyday no matter what happens to you. It’s called moral character. All the rest is just excuses.
@@ScragsP22She's not made to be bad, I think what OP is saying is that they painted the picture of her being bad. The premise of Wicked is that Elphaba (the wicked witch) was never actually bad, the Wizard was the true villain, but he used his power and influence to convince the people of Oz that Elphaba was evil which forced her into hiding, while everyone else called her the wicked witch of the west
@@ScragsP22 See. The. Show. It's way more nuanced.
omgggg i cant wait!! ariana is the perfect glinda
ACTUAL CHILSSSS 3:15
So they became friends in the end? Never seen it. I’m confused but i like that twist in the movie of the original. It’s nice to teach kids to be friends with everyone.
It’s sooo much cooler and more complex than that. Originally they hate each other in school but grow to decide to be friends no matter what anyone thinks. And when Elphaba decides to become the wicked witch of the west she and Glinda are…….kind of still friends? Glinda just doesn’t want to stand up for what is right because it isn’t popular and she cares about public image and being seen as Good so it puts strain in their friendship, but they very much care about each other. They also end up in a love triangle with the same guy. It’s not at all what you’d expect when you hear “wicked witch of the west backstory”
November??????
🔥💫🧙♀️💖💚
All we wanted was a pro shot 😭😭
Speak for yourself!
We need more pro shots!
Hmm no the majority of us definitely asked for and wanted a movie like this. Sorry to break it to you
974 likes 536 dislikes 😂
I'm sorry, what's the point of showing the ENTIRE movie in the trailer???
This is a musical. Everyone already knows how it will go.
@@phoenix5054 Uhm… actually it was a novel first, and not everyone is gay or jewish. Some of the unsuspecting straights and gentiles may think this is an exciting fantasy or an action adventure that they can explain to their girlfriends all night long.
Or I guess they would, if they hadn’t shown THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE in the trailer!
@@Hakshavalahnews flash, straight people can like theater too
Have You actually seen the stage show? Did you see Boq or Nessa in that trailer? There's a lot not shown in this trailer. They showed just enough in fact. Two out of the nine songs in act 1. For those who haven't seen the show, this is not over giving away too much at all. It's actually a rare form of trailer nowadays. Gives the uninitiated a glimpse of what's to come and those who are familiar with the show the impression the studio is going to be faithful to he original production. And @andrewgordon799 is correct. Straight guys can enjoy musical theatre as much as any gay or Jewish person. Welcome to 2024, lady. Sincerely, a straight guy who has seen and loves the show. Really looking forward to this one.
Id argue if you dont show story, people would think it’s just another Wizard of Oz adaptation. Kind of like Oz the Great and Powerful. So i think showing that it’s a different take on the classic tale works.
The real surprise will be on the musical numbere, and Jon Chu showed in In The Heights he has a knack for doing showstoppiny musical set pieces.
So it is based off the Broadway show The Wicked. Line to line copy
Edina would be proud
Ok so why wait until November now 😂😂😂😂
Omg ariana grande❤️
Ariana sounds and looks like a totally different person
88k views and only 1k likes, how many dislikes?
whyyy does Ariana's voice sound like a google or siri voice...
Is Elphaba a Black young lady? Who is she? I'm dying to know and looka like she's got the vocals for it as well
It's like Wednesday the musical
This made. Me sad 😢
So who is the villain??
madame morrible and the wizard
Okay so when are we getting a white static shock. And I'm still waiting on a white black panther. How about if we make a story about Tupac but cast vanilla ice to play him?
What?
She is green
What did Arianna do to her face
As a Wicked fan.. It looks okay. Lots of CGI, I would love to see some practical effect and there might be who knows. I might go see this in theaters. I rarely do this these days mainly because of well. Hollywood shoving out shit. But this looks okay. The woman playing Elphaba got me smiling when she scared Glinda. Though she kinda has a shocked look a lot. idk I wanna see Elphaba cause some mischief. I guess we shall see!
Well now i know exactly what happens i dont need to watch it
They didn’t show the whole story at all. Only act one of the musical. This story has so many twists
Ari you got this
What's the point making the witch from wizard of oz a good woman last time I checked she was going after the girl with her pet flying monkeys 😂😂
Well shes a woman and we cannot have her being evil
This is another side of the story being told under the point of view of The Wicked Witch of the West.
Believe me, THIS is an improvement over the original Wizard of Oz 1939 movie. I promise lol
700 views in 9 hours? LOL
Yeah, cause this is the UP Australia channel. The trailer on the regular UP channel has a few more.
Pretending it's the only upload of this trailer? LOL
Looks amazing, but WHYYYYYYYYY?
Please fired who was in charge of the trailer, basically show all the movie!!!!
its a 2 parter maybe it ahowed some of part 2
Wait, I thought they were sisters?
The witch’s of the East and West are sisters. Glinda is not related to them (at least not in this story).
@@SweenyTodd98 ah, I see 👍🏽
Nice trailer for Woked
I feel like this is a weird casting.
I hate the extra vocalicalisation in the song for Elphaba, they should have recast Indina Mendzel
I just feel bad because no one can really beat Idina Menzel
this spoils basically the whole movie
The musicals been out for 20 years.
Looking at the soundtrack you could prob figure out what going on
i saw a live play of wicked that was better
As a black woman, why do they keep doing this? 🤦🏾♀️
What are they doing? 🥝
@@zydration3538 Instead of creating brand new characters for us we keep getting their sloppy seconds. So sick of this!
@@Justrelaxx101 Elphaba is green. And has been played by a very diverse group of people on stage.
She’s not even black… as in the character. She’s green.
Casting in the theater world is more color blind than in cinema
IDK about this. I thought they were supposed to be sisters. I hope Universal isn't falling into Disney's repeated disasters from 2023-present. If there was cohesive story lining from Wizard of Oz then maybe? To me it seems like some reimagnined off shoot that doesn't follow the original (again a repeated mistake w Disney.) But hey, if there is no "messaging" like in the newer Disney flops, I'll take it.
Sorry to tell you it’s based on a musical, in turn based on a novel, that’s pretty politically outspoken about things like racism and female empowerment.
I’ll just say that Wicked is probably the reason Disney made movies like Maleficent and Frozen. But Wicked does it much better.
Ariana Grande just doesnt look right. Why not use a blond actress
No we couldnt do that could we.
Looks like a Percy Jackson flop.
Sorry what’s the relation?
@@York22 Overly colorful "super adventurous", cgi fest with super generic and cringy characters depictions. Looks mostly like a bad nickelodeon made-for-tv movie. I can see it hitting the dollar store bargain dvd shelves in about 5 months.
im sorry but i cant stand Grande and Fiyeron suppose to be ochre skin like in the book
I Don't like this is video💔💔💔
The baphomet (goat) is the teacher (wisdom) now and no longer the Owl. Open your eyes.
What do you mean? Is it some kinda symbolism?
@@g.steitz8619
Movies are programming (mind control). Open your eyes and pay attention to every detail of every aspect of life.
Hail Satan.
You mean, like how the Dr dillimomd os a goat. Right loke how character had, always been
Whats wrong with baphomet lol
MISCAST ! - awful! wooden! and the musical is the worst ever seen ( london theatre ). totally overhyped.
Not a great choice for Elphaba, pass 🤷♂️
Looks like a lame Harry Potter knockoff.
Clearly someone who’s never seen wicked, just cause theres a school of magic and they fly has nothing to do with Harry potter 🙄 you’re just a hater, don’t watch the movie then and get tf outta the comments with dumbass opinion
Wicked was written first so Harry Potter would be the knockoff.
Dont anyone tell them this was based on a book written in 1900 and a movie made in 1939.
The cast is very weird. And no one will ever be good as Elphaba like Idina Menzel was. Ariana Grande as Glinda, I don’t really like. I much rathe prefer Brittany Snow as Glinda.
I would so see this, bummer arianna grande is in it. >:((
Lol what? Don’t you think she’s been punished enough? She’s sleeping with broadway spongebob. Just go enjoy the movie
Wow, what an abortion. It's as if they figured Wicked is so strong they couldn't have ruined it if they tried. We'll see.
What specifically did you dislike about this film having watched it?
@@zydration3538 The film isn't out, but the trailer proves an almost intentional plan to put in as bad a cast as they could. Ariana Grande??? 🤣🤣
