Jeff, this video really showed what it's like to explore a mine. Whether it was us down at the bottom or Chris up above, this video was the real deal. Dirty, sketchy, and exhausting! Time for more!!
that was so much fun huh and so much more left to that mine ...... it is incredible to think someone found an outcropping on the top of that mountain and they follow the vein material all the way down to the bottom over a period of 30 years
Just think of the tens of thousands of boxes of dynamite! Where on earth do they go. If they only used 1 a day that’s ten thousand “ish” but I’m sure you can double that at least.
What blows my mind is how did the miners get all the heavy equipment down the narrow tunnels as well as the lumber lengths and build all the door, shoring with just hand saws. Just amazing
Ahh it's schist, so don't take it for granite. No blue schist. Love the geology in that mine guys. Great geology colors and thanks Kris for climbing them ladders for us. Man the ball rooms in there were huuuge. We could safety dance all night long.
Hey Jeff, we called that spiraling. We got a whole bunch of old road grader blades and drove then into the roof where some former miners that were mad at the owner set off a case of powder at a four way intersection.. It took us 6 months to clear that mess, and 600 ore cars out the door. We removed so much broken ground that the ground caved in 3 levels above us. Once we broke through to the old diggin's the miners grafitti said the timbering was put in in 1938. The timbering was juniper. We hit the honey hole just beyond. There was 5 veins they were working of crystaline gold that ran as high as 22 carat..Then disater ht. My partner who was in debt, sold the mine out from under me for 55 grand. He gave me 700 dollars for my effort and paid his bills with the rest.. The new owners thought they had it made. Track was all in and clear to the new veins. Not so easy. I put a curse on that mine and that intersection we spent so much it timbering up, well the good Lord let it all cave in and seal the tunnel. Karma?
I got to explore this mine a few years ago so im stoked to see you made a video of this one. You explained and answered many questions I had about this mine. I'll never forget the size of those stopes! Thanks for the video
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW...................YES ROPES.BE SAFE,YOUR TEAM KICKED IT OUT THE PARK..EXPLAINING THE DIFFERENT DRILLS,VERY COOL..LATER ..THANK YOU
We used the hell out of Stopers in the Coal in Utah! Especially when the Motormen wiped out the trolly hangers! They had to bring a “Big Set” of Candybars for the drillers who had to replace them. Or a full size Cake! And advancing the track. I worked in 49” seam for a while in the King 5 Mine. Hiawatha Utah.
@@Askjeffwilliams Heck Jeff you are welcome to them. My kids are bored/not interested. I was a Coal Hand but I do favor listening to old Hard Rockers tales.
Wow. Those stopes at the top where Kristopher made it to certainly looked impressive. You know when you toss a thousand lumens into darkness, it's huge. I'm not sure why you didn't want to follow him up, since you'd just been at the very bottom and climbing a thousand feet of vertical up ladders is surely no problem.... lol Great stuff!
wanted him to give us a quick update before running the crew up there but he found out there was more up there then we thought and it was getting late in the day
@@Askjeffwilliams Going up a mountain with that much vertical is tiring enough, much less on 100 year old rickety ladders. I couldn't have kept up with you as it was. :) Again, great stuff!
The Azurite Malachite mmm m yum, that mine had my mouth watering, great video folks, you guys have rekindled my first love geology gemmology...ooooh let me at it...🇦🇺🇺🇲
Great video. Hope you had some beans with that steak. Now I understand that they used stulls to keep the roof from coming down. They used dynamite to blast the rock free. What I don't understand is how they kept the falling rock from knocking out the stulls.
Hi Jeff, I love your videos, you have so much energy and excitement in your life. I am retired and 1980 I worked in a Trona mine up by Green River, Wyoming. I am now living in St George, UTAH. You said in one of or videos that you needed help but no takers. I was wondering if you are serious about wanting more help. I am 62 years old and I know how hard you work when you are in your mine. I would like to meet you and see your mine. Is your mine in AZ or NA ? Or is it in California?
First I was okay with it. Then I liked your rant. Then my heart stopped when you started the ladder part. The lower you went, the dizzier I got. I'm so glad I always obeyed the signs "stay out, stay alive". An amateur might not come back up from that. I'm glad you all did. My vote is for you to take more field trips with the public. And stay out of old mines you don't know. My favorite daydream is you pointing me to the right spot in a dry wash with a monster 1000. 'Course I can't afford one though. 😂😂😂. I love seeing you have such fun. But damned if it doesn't scare the sheit out of me!
Back in the day it's not just the hauling, picking, digging, drilling and blastin' that was hard it was the climbing, squeezing into the tight areas and watching your step constantly, which gives you a major workout. Like Jeff said, "who needs a gym just be a gold miner or a gold mine explorer!"
Great Video, Jeff. There's a couple of areas where I'm not sure if I would venture into, and I've spent a lot of years underground, back in the day. Just be careful, Jeff, we don't want you hurt.
I've walked a lot of desert from Nevada to southern Sonora Mexico hunting. After watching your videos I have seen a lot of geology you talk about. My adult kids are total rock hounds and we have places we go outside of Ludlow California and in the Chocolate mountains. We have found tons of fossils and crazy mineral deposits. Your geology 101 has made understanding the landscape immensely easier. Keep up the geology videos and sorry about your old man. We all lose them eventually. It's tough.
Jeff that was a good rant, I think the same. Thank you for pointing out the different rocks, so interesting. Love what you do. Keep history alive. Love from Britain ❤️❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧

Jeff and the gang, great video and narration. I appreciated you using the map to relate the video of the drifts, crosscuts, stopes, winzes, raises, chutes, etc. to the spacial locations.
