    I know that BRAVEHEART was historically inaccurate, but I don't think the film was made for historical accuracy. I think it was a romantic film that showed how a patriot lost his love aNd replaced it with war, only to be faced with someone equally as beautiful and with strength of character, but war had already taken the place if love. That is why he could not let his heart be softened again. Even this young princess, in this scene, secretly hoped that they could be together in the future. It's possible Wallace - who once told her he saw his late wife's strength and sPirit in her - also felt love for her, but had since committed his heart to his men and his cause. Think of it as a romanticized version of historical events.

    • @jaimeduncan6167
      @jaimeduncan6167 3 года назад +2

      The film was done to manipulate people and make money in the process. Still a masterpiece, but it's important to keep in mind the actual intentions. Same goes for Apocalypto (the manipulation part).

      No one of that time in Wallace’s position would have surrendered to Edward the Longshanks. That would have been a fate worse than death, knowing that the only reason that William Wallace, the defender and high protector of Scotland, would still be alive was because of the king who committed all forms of egregious injustices towards the Scots. That is assuming he would survive. Even if the princess did succeed in overthrowing her “gender-confused husband,” and they were to be together, he would still have to live the rest of his life with that knowledge.

    This quote is much more than just the literal meaning. "Every man dies," is basically acknowledging everyone at some point dies. "Not every man really lives," is saying that not all people live their lives to the fullest, without cowardice. By accepting his death and not giving into the King, he is actually living his life to the fullest.
    Edit: I see a lot of people saying this was obvious. I actually never figured it out until I saw it explained. It gave the scene in the movie much more meaning once I learned it. So I thought I share that perspective in case anyone else did not quite catch it. If you were able to get it on your own, then congratulations. You are smarter than I am in figuring out the hidden meaning within movie quotes lol.

Both movies are masterpieces of cinema. Both have great heroes, great villains and great action scenes. No one really cares if Gladiator is inaccurate but they care way too much about Bravehearts inaccuracies.

    The way he looks her up and down before say “not every man lives” makes it appear he means that in having her he lived something not all men could. Or something to that affect.

    This movie may be historical inaccurate, but I don’t care! In my opinion it perfectly captures what it means to be a man.
    Or as MLK said:
    If a man has not found something he is willing to die for he is not fit to call himself a man - Martin Luther King Jr.

    Princess Isabella was nine years old when William Wallace was executed and the battle of Stirling Bridge is so known because it took place on a bridge, not in an open field. The motion picture industry has done more to undermine history than all other media combined and that is saying a very great deal.

    The Bruce was the real hero. Wallace of course laid a bridge with his courage & sacrifice. A time when Scotland's sons united. Now they are separated by greed & religion. The conductor of that disunity is if course England. A cancer to any nation. Please God in the coming years Ireland & Scotland will be free of it. All great houses fall eventually. Who lays claim to the bricks?
