- Gastric acid secretion can be controlled by both proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and H2 antagonists. But which can control better? Each category has its own advantages but still PPI show some advantage over H2 blockers with respect to their long term action on gastric acid secretion as well as their use in multiple clinical conditions.

The very last thing I would tell a person to take is a PPI, just because our mother died of Cancer of the Esophagus our doctors put us on Pantaprazole, after suffering gut pains(15 years on the medication) I did some studying and found out they do not recommend taking it for more than 5 years, the pain was caused by a severe lack of acid in my system. I stopped taking it and the pain went away and I didn't have acid reflux but! I now have it's major side effect severe Osteoporosis, now even later on I'm meeting others who's doctors just threw them on the medication all with severe Osteo as well as full dependence on the drug. I will never take it again and don't recommend anyone starting on it unless all else fails, I could no longer work after the age of 50. The drug stops bone growth as it blocks the bodies ability to absorb vitamin D.
It was not supposed to take for 5years though..
This really helped to answer a question I have been struggling with, when to consider ppi's versus H2's in various clinical conditions for ulcer prevention. Thank you!
Thank you so much, the last comments that H2 blockers are first attempt to control the gastric acid secretion says everything.

WHAT about H2 blockers? Are the long term side effects as severe as PPIs?
PPI IS Best
@@arshathali1076 ppi is not best
Could long-term use of ppi contribute to the development of chronic kidney disease?Which is the safest ppi?
I never commented on YT ever but please don’t take PPI. It’s not safe, it could cause neurological issues.
Hestu blockers 😀

Why H2 blocker should not given with PPIs??
It would be hyper acid neutralization, you need some acid to protect against bacteria
