The funny thing is, I knew cognitively that y'all didn't have a door with a slot with it, yet I was more willing to believe it was real than the rest of the room.
I also thought the door was more real
That was me i said that thing "why do i feel your going to call us all out and say the room was CG or something" on the rimworld video but for real it just looks so real
3:25 "This was supposed to be a very easy video. It ended up being more work than I expected" - Door Monster's videos in a nutshell.
"Real. Good. Fast. Pick two." would be a great adage for VFX.
Even if we catch an effect being done, I believe everyone here can say that its never done poorly. It's pretty much impossible to completely mimic real life and can be seen if given enough time and attention to any video.
Don't mind me, I'm just here to find the hobo plushie in the background. Not disappointed to find that he's celebrating Christmas in August.
Spelling your own doom is just part of the Door Monster brand!
That's how we got the gift that is "Self-Fulfilling Idiocy!"
VFX aside, Kyle feels like that friend that you really want. There's just something very friendly about him.
Aw thank you :D
Knowing how much work and care is behind each video makes me love them even more.
inb4 another "nobody commented, so nobody noticed", I spotted the addition of the big guy. I like how the end card's party is getting fuller with time. It's really comfy.
You got me, it definitely didn't really ring a bell for me that y'all never seemed to have a big empty room in your house. (pretty sure I did catch the door slot but I don't remember anymore)
Oh also edit because I just realised: Get sleep Kyle and don't spend all night making cool VFX for us! :P
I think some people do still notice the vfx still (at least I tend to), but there's no comments about it because they're getting better and better. And they happen to be part of really good videos.
I'm not watching a comedy sketch to nitpick at vfx, I watch it to get a laugh. And if it's well done I definitely respect more, but that doesn't make me want to comment something like "hmmm, that last shot is from the outside takes, isn't it? His hair has the light speckled on it and it's the exact same angle! YOU CAN'T FOOL ME"
Unless you want me to just start commenting all trickery I noticed in an itemized list every video
@@zetagen dew it
I like how a five minute vfx episode became a 15 minute vfx episode
Ah, the balance of time vs how good something is, always tricky.
But just how much of the room behind you in _this_ video is VFX?
*_BURN THE ALGORITHM!_*
this series makes your videos way more impressive and better. Knowing all the work and smart ideas that goes into making these seemingly "simple" videos just makes them better (i don't have enough words).
please make a music video with the last section of this video its so good
I like how you keep adding your animated characters from your videos to them
I actually thought you shot the rimworld video in a completely empty room, so props to that
I love how simple the rimworld vid seemed but there was actually a ton of vfx. Amazing
I've saved this especially to watch before sleeping. ❤️ Ending the day well!
I think it is great that we may get better at spotting them, but you also get better at hiding them.
This looks really cool and its interesting to see all the hard work that goes into all of these.
I feel like you spend a lot of time downplaying the effort in these, but I really appreciate these videos. It gives me a lot more perspective on how good some of this stuff is and I love it. I'm one of the people that never noticed it much, but now I get really excited to share observations with my family like "OH I BET THEY DID ____ FOR THIS THAT'S SO COOL!" It annoys them but brings me great joy. Thanks for sharing!
I honestly never thought of rendering to transparent file for green screen.
It feels so obvious in retrospect, but somehow didn't cross my mind for about six years.
@@KyleCSullivan I was starting to do this with thi gs like blender generated fire and portals to make my own drag and drop effects but still didn't consider it for other work. You have just unlocked time saving mode for us all.
“Five minute VFX” - a 15 minute video
Time for a Door Monster/Captain Disillusion collaboration, maybe?
I think the VFX in this video is you explaining all of the other VFX you look super real amazing job!
Love these breakdowns. Makes me really appreciate the hard work
You have definitely not slept before filming this video.
Great stuff, as always. There's always that funny line between making it look as good as you want it to and cutting back on effort, and that's probably my favorite part of these. Digital set extensions, little miscellaneous bits, all that good stuff.
My god this work is such a craft and an art. Very impressive :)
I'm beginning to think my entire reality is just Kyle making convincing enough After Effects that I don't even know what is true anymore.
Secretly we are all doodle Bob variants
Thanks for this.
I think these videos are great.
Damn, this makes me want to go back to after effects...
Given enough time you'll have entirely 3D blender version of your house
Already working on it
@@KyleCSullivan
god speed to ya
Have you considered trying VFX in Unreal Engine for some videos? Might help hide any imperfections easier. Regardless, these are awesome to see. :)
I haven't yet! But it's on my list, it looks amazing
I figured the wall was fake in the civ worker video but I didn't realize the background itself was a complete green screen
Oh awesome! I thought it was super obvious, but it's hard to tell after you've been staring at it for hours.
@@KyleCSullivan I thought you guys filmed outside and sat on chairs for the wall
You Texans have the opposite problem of us Minnesotans. We can't film like 9 months of the year without getting frostbite.
Honestly, I just thought intentionally mentioning the wrong things was part of the fun. Like one random rock or something that is so impractical being CG that one wouldn't even think of it. Don’t actually pay attention to whether or not there is actually vfx.
I'm gonn assume Resolve's Magic Mask is going to make cutting people out a lot easier
how are the views only in the hundreds
The world is cruel and unfair.
I haven't been here for a while, so pardon if I've missed something, but whatever happened to the TGT remaster?
it might just be me but I think the outro is cgi
Nah that one's practical, the rest of the video is cg
Commenting 4 algorithm
Instinctively, I assumed tracking a blank screen was the broke play, and that coding a quick greenscreen app (or just fullscreening a picture) was gonna be the woke approach. But no, turns out that app exists, and that it is obsolete because tracking is easy but greenscreens eat reflection detail. Learn something every day.
