Why are you holding yourself to goals you wouldn’t others? You have come so far. Whatever you decide you know you would congratulate anyone else that has accomplished what you have. The trail will be there next year if you have to get off. Good job and thanks for taking us along m. Appreciate you honesty and your joy. And… thanks to Eddie as well.

Always hilarious to hear the cacophony of commenters telling people to quit. This is a HUGE problem with our comfort culture. I love the fact that you keep finding a way forward! After seeing your pic on Washington some days ago, I know you at least kept trying to problem solve. Quitting is rarely the best answer unless absolutely necessary. And we are terrible judges on when the real moment is to hang something up. Our minds quit WAAAYYY before our bodies. Great job pushing your mind forward. The body will hurt, but it will be fine. 🤘🕓

If it can be done, there is no doubt in my mind that you will finish, but you are no less of a hiker if you have to adjust your plans. After 1400 miles, no one can question you know how to get it done! Wishing you good health and a strong finish. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

Our health is our greatest gift, and I think steroids and pain medicines do more harm than good over time. If I wasn't able to hike without medication, then I would want to rest and recover until I could safely resume hiking without meds. Prioritizing good health should not be seen as a failure.

Renee, if you pray ask the Lord what He would want for you. As a hiker myself, your not healthy enough to go on. The lungs and body are not in shape for this. Let it go, you can go back. Many others have had to stop. Grandma Gatewood was pulled off in Maine and what did she do? She went back a year later and did it. Do what is safest and not let your ego get the best of you. Not trying to be discouraging but safety and health can never take a back seat my friend.

@@GabrielWood-tg7qr Hi Gabriel I’m from Tennessee. All is well here. I’ve been tricking out my little Honda Trail 125 that I bought last year. Put extra fuel cans and water can on it and front engine guard and foot guards. Hand guards and headlight guard. Oh and a longer seat for my long legs. I was going to postpone my hike until March next year. If it doesn’t work out to hike Appalachian Trail then their are alot of other trails or ride the Transamerica trail from east coast to west coast. A lot of things on my bucket list. Maybe the Grand Canyon. I enjoyed the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon in my youth. Fishing, hiking and white water rafting. It was a hoot! I’m in no rush when I hike. I try ultralight but have a few items that take me out of that classification I’m unwilling not to take. Binoculars and comfort items and always take my bear canister. I can use it as a seat also. I built a trailer for my motorbike and carry my resupply in. Can also go to a campground and camp there. I have my own ways. Hike my own hike. Hahaha 🤣 I checked into the metal Thorium a radioactive metal that is naturally occurring. It’s mostly in undergrowth and wildfires of the magnitude of Canadas can put it in the smoke then fall into water supplies. I was on my way to hike going through Virginia when my brother and daughter called me concerned. I pulled over checked news. I was convinced once seeing the news. I guess Yellowstone is out of the question now? A lot of hiking in this area. I like visiting the caves too. Music in the caves is on my list too. Enjoying life nothing that goes on is going to steal my joy. 😊

Maybe after Wednesday next week I’ll plan on doing something outside. Not sure what? Last week I visited my granddaughter for my birthday. Woo hoo! I might take a ride on my scooter 🛵 since it’s either been too hot or rained hard hard hard! Hahaha 🤣 it’s all good 👍! I should start getting into hiking shape again. Get on my stepper. Hike around town with a small pack and 30 lbs of weight. I have two new pair of shoes to break in. Start off slow for a couple weeks maybe two miles out 4 miles total. Throw on some ankle weights too about 6 or 8 lbs? Depends on weather. Can do squats anywhere and often. Deep squats! Well peaceful journey!😊
