Hello. I am an ALICE guy. All packs are compared against Dear Alice! Bombproof durable! I noticed that those that Ride the Rails often roll will Alice. Why? Because Alice is the toughest for real-world hard use 24/7/365. Packed right. Packed tight. No gimmicky bells and whistles. These packs will be around for 100 years, even if we won't. Alice may hurt you, but she'll never fail you. Great vid. Great kit. Ruck-up.
Appreciate your service and your family that served with what's the United States military I am nothing but a civilian appreciate what you guys have done for us
These are still the best packs around. When I went to pre-deployment training for Iraq in 2006 I still had ALICE green gear. Then they issued us RFI (Rapid Field Issue) MOLLE. Everything was good except for the ruck sack. It sucked balls as far as wearing and carrying because of the plastic frame. I even wondered how Paratroopers could even jump with them? The aluminum frame of the ALICE pack is totally bomb proof. The old nylon on the ALICE pack is durable. I still have mines today and use it. That bad boy was issued to me back in 1989 and still going strong. It is badly faded but it still works. I was comfortable humping the large ALICE for miles. Right before we finished training we had to mail our green gear home. When I got to Iraq, I saw some infantry units still had the large ALICE with them. It was more practical for machinegun crews to carry more ammo comfortably in combat. The only modification was add Fastex clips on the 2 closure straps for easy access. The Army issue assault pack was good and you can add pouches like crazy. It was good for riflemen. Some infantry units also used the large ALICE for grenadiers to carry more 40mm "golden eggs" HE DP, TP Marker rounds, and illumination parachute flares. Otherwise they are on burrito bandito bandoliers for easy access but they tend to fall off and lose them. The assault pack is too small to carry more 40mm rounds. Even the old Grenadier Vest sucked, the MOLLE 40mm pouches were not enough even attached to the Interceptor Body Armor. The large ALICE still makes sense. All they have to do is change the color using the same nylon.
I had one long time ago but it got stolen from me I wish you guys a lot of happiness And a lot of memories with your Ils packs When I can I will pick me up another one
Great video! Semper fi and thank you for your service. The Alice packs are pretty awesome packs, aesthetically and utilitarian wise; however, I always tended to over pack mine and too often forget what pocket I placed specific items. I carry a Norwegian Army Rucksack now for its simplicity, one cavernous bucket and two good sized side pockets. My load outs have gone from 50 down to 25 pounds (average). Organizational pouches make it easy to find gear. Water goes in one side pocket and tarp, stakes and cordage in the other. In the winter my wool blanket or a good synthetic sleeping bag is strapped onto the top. Otherwise, everything is within the pack except my axe and a Silkie Gomboy (in the pass-through sleeves)for the three season climates. Much respect to you and ALL Marines.
Thanks for the video, and for sharing. Nice thought out system. I like the medium ALICE better than the large also, doesn't hang so far off your back. Just been banging my head trying to get everything in the medium pack, not having it weigh too much and to be able to carry a system for winter. I turned one of my medium Alice packs into the "Hellcat" mod. Was thinking of using 2 MOLLE sustainment pouches on the upper left and right sides of the pack and maybe then I'll have enough room, also want to be able to carry a tent, the winters here are brutal. Thank you for your service and your vid.
Thanks for the video, and the back story. I bought a Goodwill LC-1 for $20. I got out of the Army in 83, and we were not issued these. Make em tight, and right, so they are light.
The ALICE pack will always have a special place in my heart. I don't know why. It's like that old ball cap that you can't seem to stray away from. Gotta say that I'm jealous of your extra sentimental value with your rucksack. How fantastic that he left that for you! He is able to continue sharing the load in your life.
If you t to carry more with ALICE pack, purchase some MOLLE II Sustainment pouches. You can get these in Woodland. Run the MOLLE straps thru the top attachment point of your pack and you have extra storage space.
Heavy redundancy is the reason I stayed with my 3-day assault pack. Still haven't made a video with it but its as big as would like to go with an actual military pack. They're so overbuilt and big you don't need the largest pack made. // I think you honering your relative is a wonderful thing. Keep your nose clean. Be like him. Be better.
Great video I like your inspiration from Canterbury I also pulled from his pool of knowledge know how weighs nothing you've iswayed me not to get a radio Shelf. Thank you keep up the good work
Do buy the shelf, but don't use it backpacking camping gear. I use mine to sometimes haul 5 gallon water containers, which sit perfectly on that shelf. So do ammo boxes. Very useful part when you need it.
You can actually make the Large Alice Pack smaller. Turn the pack inside out and there is paracord and loops you can tie it up to reduce the volume size of the pack.
Liked the vid. I like to see how others roll. I sewed a sternum strap on mine down where it is thin. It keeps the thin pads over the beefier part of your shoulder. If carrying more than 30 lbs, cut green foam pad and electrical tape it to the pad for extra cushion.
Red River Scout I've the austrian Alice pack too, how are you finding it? I've put a plastic choping bord in the radio pouch to give it a frame, I've also got a smaller austrian pack that atatchs to the harness, and the austrian butt pack is just amazing
I made a similar mod. I put some firm foam in the pouch for stability and padding. I don't have the small pouches yet. The butt pack is great and can be used very well as an assault pack or 3 day pack. It is one of my favorite pieces of kit. I use it alot along with my French F1 large rucksack which is another favorite.
Red River Scout I've got a piece of foam in mine too, I've none of the small pouches etheir,I used French canteen pouches with the wire hanger on my rig up untill I got new molle ones, the buttpack is just great have you mounted it on the harness like a back pack yet? I love mine, I've also been experimenting with mounting the austrian Alice packs on the sweedish Lk frame with some good result, take care
10 years Army... EXACTLY... if i have the space, I WILL FILL IT. Exactly the reason my three day bag is an LC 1 Medium. And even then I pack 35 lbs in it👍🏻
Those steel pack frames will rust after a long time in the field. That's why I went with an aluminum frame model. If the ALICE had an a!uminum frame, I'd be on that for my inch bag in two seconds. Just my 2c
How did you get the straps and pocket trims in that tan color? I've seen a few of them with that same look. Is is just a matter of aging or sun washing or is it a specific model?
Anything soldier proof is value for money a Alice pace can usually survive a teenagers use because they have been in use for so long by the military most of the kinks have been worked out I found recommending this pack to teenage Boy Scouts was a good economical bit of gear for families to purchase it would last more than one child and could be adjusted to suit the indervidusls own personnel preferences
Killzone Productions The shorter the better. The majority of people who hate these packs are over 6ft tall (like me...lol), or they are required/in the habit of carrying too much weight...
I'm 5' 7" also,, cheated on alice a few time's but always come back to her,, just like a glock,, experimented with many others ,, but always come back to glock..
hard frame back injuries ALICE army did case teat thay junk the ALICE it was 80% of time cos of down time to rest try it put on do 20 mil with 40 50 lb that pack is a killer

Excellent vid and very informative. I'm 64 and only get out to camp during the winter months. Always looking for ideas to lighten my load!

Great story behind your pack. I understand completely.

I just bought a new medium Alice pack. I'm looking forward to outfitting it.

Looks good. Yeah I agree I bought a 100ltr polish bag and nearly killed my self. now I just run around with the lk 35.
You can actually make the Large Alice Pack smaller. Turn the pack inside out and there is paracord and loops you can tie it up to reduce the volume size of the pack.
That option is only on the medium pack.
Y would U wanna make it smaller ?

This is a great video!
loved this brother! you've inspired me
David Johnson glad to help
David Johnson glad you liked it
I use a surplus Austrian rucksack. it is kind of a hybrid between the medium and large ALICE.
Red River Scout
I've the austrian Alice pack too, how are you finding it? I've put a plastic choping bord in the radio pouch to give it a frame, I've also got a smaller austrian pack that atatchs to the harness, and the austrian butt pack is just amazing

I also use the French back pack but the smaller 30/40 liter F2 model I think it is, great little pack:)
Picture please would like to see that
10 years Army...

Exactly the reason my three day bag is an LC 1 Medium.

Well thought out john .brilliant. (paddy)

Good shout. Thanks Joe

iReturnV1deotapes years of use the sun and weather bleached it also my uncle carried this for years before I did
I use my bandana to make coffee
I would never make fun of something like that brother. I get it. USMC 0331.

Would this pack work for someone who is five foot seven?
Killzone Productions The shorter the better. The majority of people who hate these packs are over 6ft tall (like me...lol), or they are required/in the habit of carrying too much weight...
I'm 5' 7" also,, cheated on alice a few time's but always come back to her,, just like a glock,, experimented with many others ,, but always come back to glock..
Good video, but you should re-upload it. 240p is almost unwatchable. 720p or better. 480p is bare minimum.
Btw, sorry to hear about your uncle. And thanks for your service. I enjoyed your load out. It was just burry to watch at 240p max. :)
hard frame back injuries ALICE army did case teat thay junk the ALICE it was 80% of time cos of down time to rest try it put on do 20 mil with 40 50 lb that pack is a killer
