Some folks call that a hellcat rig, an Alice pack and frame, with Molle straps and kidney pad. I rock that rig on my frame with my medium and large packs. It's a great system, very comfortable under load. Great video, I subscribed 👍
I just ordered my Alice pack from the US all the way to Sweden and I can't wait to get it out in the woods. If you're looking for material for a video I'd love to see how you made that carrying handle + tree strap to hang it on. Quality video!
Awesome video. I was lucky mine already had the upgraded shoulder straps and the kidney pad. Got the pack and frame for only $30 a few years back. I bought it to take on hunting trips. It's amazing how sturdy the pack is. Mine is a medium ALICE so the internal compartment is smaller. It's makes a great day pack when you may need extra gear or for a short overnight excursions. I love having a cool old school piece of gear.
Check out a alice frame shelf. Its a metal shelf that hooks into the bottom of the frame that give you a place to store stuff like a tent or whatever and you can take the bag off and use the frame and shelf to carry jerry cans or wood. It fits better on a medium alice pack like yours.
I have the large ALICE in my work van full of extra cloths. Cannot tear it up. Grew up next to Fort Knox. I got my first ALICE pack in a pawn shop in Shepherdsville so I could backpack at Red River Gorge. Thanks for the video.
“Travelers “ ( aka “ Kids”) those that hop freight trains, prefer ALICE packs because the packs are durable, virtually indestructible. These modern day Hobos always have their ALICE packs outfitted right and tight. They are overlooked because they are at the fringe, the true EDGE of society. Beyond the pale. And they prefer ALICE.
Can confirm, I've used the same one for almost 10 years. Been thrown off many a moving train and the only thing that has broken was the frame. I don't think I'll ever switch to molle, especially not with a plastic frame
I modded a medium a while back. Starting on a large now. Good tips! And the ending was the best part. Enjoy them while you can. Tomorrow they'll be grown and gone like mine. Reminds me of the song Cats in the Cradle.
So I’m not sure if it’s a difference between the medium and the large, or just the era that I got mine. Back around ‘87ish, but mine has the space behind the back middle pouch. Perfect spot for putting my small camp size OTC machete.
I have 2 of them, large & medium. I can get the medium to fit without pulling on my shoulders even with my heavy Cabela's coat. I'm 6'1". But the large one is giving me trouble trying to get the load on the waist belt. I try to keep the strain off my neck because of some spine issues there. I use them currently for gold prospecting and hauling smaller stuff from yard & estate sales locally. I also need to do something different for the chest strap. It's cinched up all the way but is still too large. Even with the coat on. Been thinking about that MOLLE replacement for some time. On the hydration bag I got a new one with its own pack bag. I'm wondering if it would fit between the pack/frame and the pack bands that ride against your back? If so, how would you rig it? I was thinking of putting those ice rods for your water bottles before filling it with water.
There is also a sleep shelf you can put on it. Not sure yet if it is from the M.O.L.L.E system. I need a better sternum strap for mine. The standard ALICE sternum strap is just too big and doesn't tighten down enough. I've been wondering if I should weave paracord across the frame or not. Or maybe wrap the frame with paracord. Or not.
The shelves are great. I have one for this frame. When you take off the pack you can haul water jugs, firewood or anything that will fit on the shelves.
@@upontheridgesurvival6774 yes it was close to the closed drive in I used to live back in Stanton and worked in Lexington I still have some gear bought there
Great video, thanks! Is there a pouch made to attach underneath the pack? With the newer molle stuff we called it a butt pack, but i'm learning now that that is already something else for the Alice stuff. I see there's two things of webbing that I could always use to strap whatever underneath, but just curious if they make something specifically for that.
Yes you can attach an ALICE butt pack or a sleep system carrier to the bottom. I usually just strap my bed roll to the bottom using some cinch straps though.
@@upontheridgesurvival6774 oh awesome thanks! Just looking at pictures of the butt pack it looked like it was made for attaching to a belt rather than the ruck so thats good to know. Thanks for all the info

Hey, thanks for sharing. If you like to upgrade your MOLLE - Waistbelt mounting to the ALICE Frame then watch this: ruclips.net/video/ZGntLaMI6kI/видео.html And it happens to be an advantage for you to have the Woodland Camo Waistbelt. Check it out, if you look closely you should discover an additional row of stitching, which isn´t present at other newer generation MOLLE - Waistbelts. So you have to undo basically just some stitches and it´s done. Maybe that helps you to improve your ALICE Pack even more! And last I wanna share that the USMC FILBE Shoulder Harness fits totally fine and easy to the ALICE Frame. Way better than the Molle Shoulder Harness. I did both modifications myself and I´m realy happy with it! Best regards, Torsten
I’ve just upgraded mine to the 1606MC frame with molle ii padding . Keeping the old lc2 frame to carry the British army 20l water container strapped and rested on the cargo shelf.
hey dude i sow'd elastic on my top straps to shove foilage in shure i could tuck leaves and shit under straps but they would fall out if i open'd my ruck my A.L.I.C.E pack is sulking on the floor ( in case of emergency ) waiting .............

Absolutely, I'll try and get a video together on it. Thanks. Hope you enjoy the pack.
Thank you. Had mine since I was 14. Now i'm 55. Served well. Time for mods.
They are awesome packs for as is but the mods really help improve it.

Thank you for this. God bless
Great tips! I just got a Alice Pack at a yard sale for $20 and just transferred my gear today. Heading out Wednesday to start building a Base Camp!
That's awesome, hope you enjoy the pack.
Lots of good tips. I'm modding my large pack now and will work in some of yours. Thanks!
Awesome! let me know how they work for you.
Nice setup! Big help for what I'm about to do!
Awesome, let me know if you need any better details on how to do some of them.
Very cool and intuitive mods, great vid!

I would be intetested in what straps and kidney pad you used and how they went on. Thanks
@@runningman1156 absolutely, I’ll do my best to make a video on it. The straps are from the army’s “new” molle system
One thing that I have done is put a 5/8th hose on Para cord to make the handle comfortable.

Can you tell or send me a link where you got your shoulder pads and kidney pad?
When the Cav store was open they would mod your gear ... what they did to the ruck was awesome is there a company that can make 🤔mods to gear?
I know of a place outside of Ft Campbell that can do the modifications, Ive never used them though.
Winchester had 1 of the best surplus stores out on 60 headed to Lexington

nah but at 2:14?

One upgrade that is a real game changer is to switch the frame for a 1603ac frame.
Absolutely! I know some people that have done it and love. I'm a sucker for the old metal frame though.
I tried the og frame but it made my back hurt

Elaborate these details pleas, maybe a link,
What's the diff in medium large and the frames interchanging or use without frame?..
