- "Media vita" (or "Media vita in morte sumus") is originally a Gregorian antiphon that was written in the 9th century by, according to legend, Notker the Stutterer, a monk of the Abbey of St.Gall. This song will become a popular Crusade song, although it will be used in many other contexts.

My christian family branch came from over armenia fighting under nasir theophobos a rising kurdish commander in byzantine army and later emperor but when theophilos health was in risk and his infant was the new heir he got betrayed and secretly decapitated to prevent any usurpation attempt even if there wasnt any(we are still mad about this betrayal). A Vedantic Hindu here. I love this hymn. It has a kind of serenity and purity that you find in the songs of the salvated ones, calling for your salvation too. I've discovered the message of Jesus and Krishna's message in the Gita points to the same Truth. They were just there on the earth at totally different times and scenarios.
The Vedas say: "The Truth is one, but great souls propagate and preach it differently".
In this era of consumptionism and materialism, we all need to hook back to our roots and listen to the great souls before we self destroy ourselves.
World will have less conflicts and religious fights if the believers focus on knowing what their religion actually preaches and discover the common message.

I like the fact that this is sung in a more medieval style latin, which makes sense for the crusaders, most notably the pronouncation of "æ" as an "e" rather than "ai"

Lorsque je pense que j'ai découvert ce chant par le biais des musiques du jeu Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout , ça me fait délirer parce que j'ignorais totalement qu'il existait historiquement. Cependant, ce n'est en rien incongru de l'y avoir mis étant donné que l'univers de ce jeu, donc celui de Redwall/Rougemuraille, est un Moyen-Âge avec des animaux anthropomorphes et que Redwall est le nom de l'abbaye qui est au cœur ou liée à toutes les histoires de cet univers😂😍
