I really liked what you said about wanting to be active in your older years. Sometimes, looking ahead to our future and the motivation of wanting to stay active in our later years can be enough. I know it is for me. Thanks for sharing your story. 😊
Thank you for the opportunity to hear people Paul achieving amazing goals. I’m in my early 60s and I’m competing or trying to for all my age categories Trail races 21km to 35km distances. I’ve always been competitive all of my sporting life. I believe I can get faster at running, my challenge is training to much and hard and injuries.
Paul makes a great point for us Autumn Athletes to train smarter, not harder. I understand the tendency to want to over train but that can sometimes cause problems. Good luck with your pursuits!
@@autumnathletesndy thanks for your reply much appreciated. I guess having a trusted coach (which Paul highlighted) will certainly help to train smarter. It’s something Im struggling to find, but know it will be worth it!
@@vancehetariki476 You may want to reach out to Sue McDonald. She is a 9 time world record holder at M60 age group and she offers online coaching. She is one of my Spotlights. You can see how to contact her in the description section.
Strength training. Since I started strength training consistently, pooof no more injuries. I run 4 to 6 times a week ( depending the season) do 3 Muay Thai training per week and at least 2 strength sessions per week (3 depending on the season) It pays big. ( Btw I'm 54)
How I stumbled on this, I don't know....but I have just turned 65 and want to compete in some senior games. I have struggled with weight gain, 2 achilles tendon ruptures (full) and a lot of other injuries and excuses (!). I LOVE to run fast and used to be quite fast-many decades ago. But, I am running into injuries (mostly achilles) if I try to get serious about it. I KNOW I MUST lose the weight as that is putting extra strain on my tendons, etc. I didn't mean this to be all about me-but I guess it is. I would like to hear advice from people who are just getting back to running after decades with an older bod. Advise on losing weight, too. P.S. When I was in college running, I was too thin-anorexic, really. I am hoping that isn't the reason, I am having so many injury problems now. Please advise and please pray for me. THANK YOU in advance. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
I have subbed this channel and am making notes! I didn't think things like this existed. I live on a farm in a RURAL area, so this will be a God-send! THANK YOU! @@autumnathletesndy

Congratulations Mr. Paul Forbes. We met in 1983 at Cosford over 800 meters indoors and you remain a model.
I had a blast talking with Paul. He is a great guy and a super athlete! NDY

This was great. Between Paul and Alistair Walker, they've made the M65-69 age group 800-10,000 records exclusively Scots.
Absolutely! I’ve had Alastair as guest on my channel here a few times and is a top guy like Paul 🏆

@@DavidTremblay I agree... I have stressed strength training to everyone of all ages to perform well and avoid injuries! Keep it up... NDY!
Great interview!
We interviewed him on the podcast not long ago. Great guy and great athlete!
Agreed!

We had a great time chatting.

800m is a beast. Just like the 1500. Good on ya man!
Cracking chat!
Not sure what that means exactly but I do know of a few folks in the US that had to put the subtitles on to catch all of the information! lol

He is a beast!
Forget Elon Musk. This type of person is a the real inspiration.
I love his attitude as well as his athleticism!
I agree about the over training holding him back when he was younger - six track sessions a week is too much.
It's easy to do when you are young. Looking back there were times I definitely overtrained. A little rest now and then goes a long way!
Build fitness first & often…
World record for elderlies is pathetic !!
I appreciate your comment but respectfully disagree. NDY!
