Finally someone who designs for real people. My parents laminate is older than me and is in better shape than me. And gloss paint even behind a range has always wiped clean
I really like that you talk about design that is not open concept. Not everyone has homes like that or can afford to create that. Sometimes a wall gives you much needed storage or privacy and so forth.
I am so glad you ixnayed the open floor plan! Like an Ikea cafeteria, open floor plans can be pretty, but it doesn't make them enjoyable for anything but entertainng large groups of people!
Hi liz, my design sherpa, i suggest u do 2 things in yohr kitchen: try fitting a peninsula with an island. That way you get 2 and dont get to choose 1.
I appreciate all your videos! I made my kitchen island based on all your tips. I wouldn’t have thought of all the restrictions if you didn’t lay it out for me! Thank you!
Help me understand why the path between fridge and sink is so important? Why do I need a sink if I’m getting milk, cheese, ketchup, leftovers, lunch meat, etc. most important to a fridge is a well lit work space.
@@julianpaul680 it’s the most often traveled path. Glasses are near the sink for that milk 🥛 I need a knife to cut the 🧀. Silverware is over by the dishwasher, which is by the sink. 🤔
Hi Liz… love your kitchen design tips… so helpful as we plan our kitchen in an apartment renovation. Could you please just share your experience with quartz ? I know that it is not resistant to heat, but you mentioned staining as well ? We are considering quartz, but have a daughter who is approaching teenage status, so I was particularly interested in what happened with your daughters ! I looked for a video from you regarding countertops, but didn’t find one… what are your favorite countertop materials other than laminate ? Thanks so much !
I’m a fan of granite, porcelain anything that’s been around longer than me!🤣 the girls had white quartz in the bath. I don’t know which products stained it, but it didn’t even make it out of preteen science experiments years in the bath.🤔 makeup and hair oil, oh boy!
Quartz, for the money is not worth it IMHO. It stains, burns, so there are better options. Engineered floors on slabs have to contend with moisture. If there’s a failure in the barrier or leaks, it’s a problem. I’m looking for no maintenance, so that’s my logic. I miss my wood floors, but not the scratches🤣
I am having such a hard time pulling out the three tips. I wish these videos were chapterized. Check out now Nick Lewis does his videos. They are so easy to understand, that he becomes an invaluable resource!
I have to respectfully disagree on the 24-inch maximum width of an upper cabinet. I understand that a 12 inch door on a 12 inch deep upper will open out to about the depth of the base cabinet. As long as I don't stand in front of the hinge, the door rotates to the side of the cabinet, no problem. My uppers are 30-39 inches wide (so doors are 14 to 19 wide) and I love them. I have fewer cabinets (boxes) and fewer stiles than if I used the 24-inch wide rule. I can access things more easily without a stile getting in the way. It also helps on cost- fewer boxes and fewer door handles if you have wider cabinets. Part of this depends on the individual. My mother and mother-in-law always put frequently used items in lowers with doors because they could barely reach the first shelf in the upppers let alone the 2nd shelf. Were talking 30-40 years ago before kitchen drawers became more common. Mom and MIL were about 5 ft 3-inch tall. I`m 5 ft 7. I have always used uppers for frequently used items and put infrequently used items in the lowers. I am in the midst of a remodel after 30 years in this kitchen. I am putting drawers in most of the lowers. I'm looking forward to using the lower drawers so my cranky knees and hips don't have a fit when I use the lowers! YMMV!
Love that your mom was a trend setter!👩🎨 it’s gotta work for the individual! Extremes make people think, so I’m glad you weighed the costs and function for you!

🤣 it’s crazy!
The tray storage idea ABOVE the fridge in Limbo is Ef-ing BRILLIANT!!!
I'm doing it!
It is my fav!
@@lizbiancoismydesignsherpa How do you like that vs. the kickout drawers in the toekick area, for tray storage?
@@plast117 way better! No bending and even my shortest clients can reach the bottom corner of a tray or platter to access!
As an overwhelmed beginner this advice is priceless. Thanks Liz!
