In case you don't know, when text is written like that, it infers sarcasm. And whenever I post a video of either cat screaming into the air, people think I'm an awful person because we "obviously" leave them alone too much (or think we should get her another cat, without reading the name of the page, lol). Well, here Shorty is in all her screaming glory when we are both at home. She didn't do this when she was younger, and some have suggested maybe she's senile. Could be, but I and the vet think she just likes the sound of her own voice.
So, anyway, I always love how Bryan holds her, and when she goes all limp like a ragdoll, haha. They're so sweet together. And if some people think we're bad cat guardians, then so be it. Our kitties know the truth.

Someone once said their cat had dementia, would wander and yowl all night. Apparently she was lost and confused....he placed her in a large cage at night and she calmed down. He said it wasn't a solution for all cats, though.
@@chamonix2602Mine had dementia at age 18. We’d open the back door to let Jake out and it seemed like an eternity for him to make a decision to go out or not - just stand there forever trying to decide what to do!

As an old lady myself, sometimes we just get in a mood and we just don't care to "behave properly".
One of my rescue kitties is peaceful and quiet. The other one runs around whining at all hours and eats carpet. Despite having a playmate, a large house, and plenty of toys, some cats are just gonna cat- no fault of the owners.

Cats scream because they want attention, they want to see if you respond, they're bored, they want a treat, they want to remind themselves they're in charge of the house... or they live. (Proud owner of screaming cat)

Elderly kitties are all quite vocal..... my Bibi is turning 20 this year, she will scream every 5 mins if i am not in the house... my neighbour said they can hear her voice next door.... poor baby.

As a multiple cat owner i can say cats get more loud when the get older. Maybe because of hearing bad, maybe because of getting senile. My oldest cat (>20) is very senile and starts screeming randomly
or they might have arthritis or other pain. 😔
Think so. They need more reassurance that you're physically there if they can't see you.

We found out the hard way. Our dearest friend had a cancerous tumor on his hard palate and every time he ate he would meow (scream) loudly.
We found out very late what it meant when a lump appeared above his whisker pad. We operated but it was too far advanced and we lost him not long after.
I still cannot forgive myself for not catching this as I can only imagine how much pain he was in toward the end.
For a cat to scream they are in a really bad way. 😭
Hopefully, on a lighter note, this is just Shorty feeling she wants some lovin' and attention and nothing serious as you have to note the context of the screaming.
@@serinatang4184 Serina, i’ve had cats for 50 years. I’ve made mistakes with all of them albeit not the same mistakes, I think. Maybe that’s because they’re all individuals with individual issues. You can say the same thing about human parents.
I’ve suffered the same anguish as you, but I tried to tell myself that I did the best I could with what I knew at the time.
So I know you won’t make the same mistake again.

Hisses! Hisses! Hisses to those who say mean things and who falsely judge without seeing the reality. And that reality is all PURRS because Shorty is so deeply loved and kindly cared for. So is Kodi. They live a life of true happiness because they trust you completely, and that would never happen unless it were true. Look at how comforted both Sho and Bryan are in this video--that river of love flows in both directions. It's beautiful.

Many humans would have dropped Shorty off at a shelter for re-adoption a few months after she started this behavior. Not the two catastic humans on this channel. They love Shorty and support her. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

I love Shorty's voice as she continues to meow at nothing. I had a female cat years ago that at 4am everytime would sit in the hallway between the 2 bedrooms n meow very loudly. Maybe it's like you said she loves to hear the sound of her voice. Great job Brian for calming Shorty.
And I wonder if part of it is she's mimicking me because I often sing throughout the day (not well, lol).

Shorty is a Chantilly Tiffany cat. Mine did the exact same things! Mine lived to 24 years old. Miss him every day.

They just don't like all doors closed to them... All my years having cats, they just complain they can't have all access all the time to things... they're so strange... Other times it's just them screaming off in one area of the house or another and they don't really want anything at all. Must be an attention kind of thing. .. they continue to train us. haha

I used to live in a house that had three cats and three humans-plenty of company. One of the cats liked to go into one particularly echoey stairwell and sing. He wasn’t lonely and he wasn’t bored, he was having his opera moment, and he would be offended if you showed up and spoiled the acoustics. Sometimes, cats just gotta sing.
My tortie loooooves to scream 24/7 for absolutely no reason at all! 😸 Clean water, full food bowl, access to every room (including outdoors through the catflap)... even when we give her attention, she screams through the purrs. It's just how she communicates when she hasn't got the brain cell!
Oh! Oh! There was a tortie at the shelter I used to volunteer at and guests were wary of her because she'd meow loudly all day. And her voice was scratchy, so she sounded like a decades long smoker. She was so funny and sweet. She was adopted by a loving family where I presume she continues to yell her opinions. Her name was June (at least at the shelter).

One of our cats also started screaming constantly in his elder years, would only quieten when he was in someone's lap. We never figured out why either!
My old kitty does this too. She loves yelling down the hall, loves to yell into the bathroom when no one's in it with the door wide open, loves to yell to announce when she's done eating. She simply loves her hearing her own voice.

Our female kitty (black also) does the exact same thing with my husband. She'll even bring him presents of toys and leaves, because she knows just how to capture his heart and get into his arms (or lap). Adorable. Long live Shorty.

lawl she's getting up there in age, too. ppl don't realize how older cats sometimes will just caterwaul for all sorts of reasons. my old boy, Bibi used to do the same thing. sounded absolutely horrible at all hours, all scraggly and loud. i'd have to get up and show him where i am and he'd be calm for a few hours before doing it again. when he realized he gets affection immediately...i was doomed. lol

Random screaming is pretty common amongst older kitties, especially at night. 🙄 It never hurts to have it checked out if it worries you, but I've been lucky enough to have many older kitties in my life. ❤ The majority of them gad their own riff on exactly this behavior. 🐈🐈⬛🐱

She is training you guys to cuddle her when she yells. I have had cats of all adult ages who randomly pick a resonant place in the house to howl at/into and amplify their shouting. I think you're right, they just like the sound of their own voices sometimes plus it *always* results in getting attention from the people in the area. Remember the old comics of Garfield or Heathcliff out caterwauling on the fence getting old boots thrown at them? Cats like to yodel sometimes and it does not automatically mean they are neglected. They're singing the song of their people!

My Megsy boy used to do that when he got older. He was a bit senile and I'd always have to retrieve him from wherever he was yelling his head off. He was such a good boy, he was a stray I tamed and kept. I don't know if you know but strays make the best most loving pets once they know they are safe with you.
Cats are just like that when they age. My grandpa's cat lived to around 20 i think, and in her last years she was almost always yelling for no reason most of the time. They get bored lol. It didn't help that my grandpa is also senile
