Although I understand why you dislike James, part of his consistency is why I like him. He’s not meant to be this groundbreaking, deep character. For once he is exactly what he looks like: an engine who is quite vain and full of himself. Yes there is more to James than that, but that’s the baselevel understanding you need for James, and the fun comes from pairing them up with other characters like Thomas who is also quite full of himself, so the two clash in a hilarious fashion.
I like your AU series, it’s nice getting to hear everyone’s Thomas AU which is sort of becoming a trend in the fandom (at least from what I’ve seen) and I like it. Also I can understand why you’re not a fan of James and that’s ok, personally I think James is a good character but I can see why he can get on some peoples nerves
