Oh man what a pleasure that was to watch and relive such a fun and rewarding shoot. I’m so honored by the way you spoke about me and privileged to have been such a big part of such a great project ❤❤❤ I got a little emotional seeing Benjamin and the family for his birthday - a family I felt like I was a part of for a small week. I can’t wait for the next one, hopefully soon! Thanks again for having me and thanks for being such a big supporter of mine and pushing my work too, you’re so generous ❤
Of course my man, like I said I would have not been able to do this without you ❤ Spending a week there should be a yearly thing :) Thanks again for your help and talent and cannot wait to work together again!! Also, looking forward to see you grow on RUclips!!
I enjoyed this and the doc. And regardless of people having a short attention span I think it was refreshing to sit down relax and not watch a video with a ton of jump cuts. It was a good story. I wonder - maybe consider the hour long version - what I mean by that is considered doing the previous documentary and mixing it with this one and turning it into basically something you aim to share with the likes of Netflix. They’re looking for inspiring stories.
The cinematography breakdown is coming today :) I always grade the same way with Filmconvert and I made a video last year about my process so feel free to watch it!
Lovely work again bro! - no chance you'd be able to give us more of a breakdown on how the gimbal was rigged up ? Find it hard to find the right minimalistic gimbal setup for my BMPCC6kPRO while still having record capacity and battery.. any ideas from ya'll would be mean
Thank you!! So we had the Ronin RS3 Pro, and we could control the focus and gimbal using the DJI handle and motor from the expansion base kit if I remember correctly . We had a long cable to from the rig to my smallhd to monitor. We use internal batteries and NDs to reduce weight. 2 People to operate too. Hope this helps!
Sorry I keep scrolling through the video (I've seen in before and excellent) to find out where in France this is? I can't find where in the BTS it says "we filmed in this part of France" or in the text where it says "locations."
I've just attended the funeral of a man who would have been 100 next June. Like your grandfather he was a much-loved and charming man who had lived a fascinating life. I worry though that in Britain we are no longer producing people of this quality and calibre as our international boundaries shrink and we become increasingly selfish and introspective. Social media are supplying false friends and we no longer need to meet or cherish people.
So awesome you guys pulled of such a high quality production with a small team. Very good BTS. Can’t wait to see the cinematography breakdown and lighting tips! Love nanlight and the curious how you guys used the Matthew flag!
great team work; funny at first i had the impression that the project was done entirely by you which is a lot but you do have professional/relax technique of capturing every detail in variety of angels. i do also own Bmpcc4k and sometimes i do deal with reliability issues but i’m glad there are more filmmakers using similar system.
I got to bike in the southern Cevennes region in Le Gard(Le Vigan) a few years ago... mostly in the mountains. It was so beautiful! I miss it. Your doc reminds me of my cycling in France. Great story and chance to share your grandfather’s story!
Thank you so much for this. I just finished my first experience as a DP on a short film. I found working with a team challenging at first since I'm use to working alone but we got better as the project progressed. I appreciate your detailed description of each part of the film making process.
Congratulations on a beautiful project about your grandfather. Excellent explanation about the whole process. I am sure it was extremely helpful to those in the video/photo industry.
Really spectacular. Thank you for making the BTS videos for this documentary! I’m making a biking film in the next month so this is giving me great inspiration.
I could watch even if this was double the duration. Both the doc and the BTS! Thank you, this has been very helpful. Do you edit the scenes in chunks and combine them in the end, or are you working on the final timeline right from the start?
Thank you for the positive feedback!! Are you asking for the doco or BTS? For the doco I edited in scenes and sequences than assembled, for the BTS it is much more linear.
@@OfTwoLands haha yes I meant for the doc! I appreciate the tip for the BTS but I need to shoot the doc first to have BTS! 🤪 Will the cinematography breakdown of the interview be on your channel?
This is the Behind the Scenes of my latest documentary : The 90 Year Old Cyclist.
Cinematography breakdown coming soon!
Cheers,
Flo

Great work congratulations - watched that video many times - where is this beautiful region in France
Thank you for watching!! It is the South West, near Toulouse :)
Well done. Did you shoot in braw and how did you color grade? Did you use a lut?
Thanks!! BRAW and I graded using Filmconvert. I will talk about this more in depth in the cinematography breakdown :)
When will that be?

Thank you!! 10 years ago I was on my own but the way I wanted to do it this time meant I needed a small crew and I am glad we actually made it :)

Shows so much professionalism and trust in each other.
Thanks for noticing! We really did our best to function as a proper crew, especially when dealing with expensive gear haha!
Learned so much from this behind the scenes vid, big thanks!

This was shot in July so the camera wasn’t released yet ☺️
