  • The marriage vows have undergone several revisions since its introduction in 1549. The biggest revision came on September 12, 1922, when the Episcopal Church voted to remove the word “obey” from the bride’s section of the wedding vows. Let’s unpack the original vow “to Love, Cherish, and Obey” with our dynamic special guests, Carrington and Ashley Brown.

This was more POWERFUL than I anticipated. OMGGG!!! Mr Brown was sooo on point. And I can see the humbleness, even in all her glory and power, Mrs Brown sat on the side of strength beside her “younger” husband. Simply beautiful. A true BOSS, to be still while her King takes the lead in communication. I love it.

We as humans get it wrong, The Bible says wives submit to your husband, not boyfriend, not side piece, not one night stand But Husband. We get in these relationships that aren’t from God. And want to have a problem with submission. When a wife sees her husband submit to God she will not have a problem with submitting to her husband nor will she have a problem with the word obey in marriage. Especially when the relationship and marriage is God aligned.

    • @lunsha25

@Joyful n Blessed Hello! Queen! I absolutely agree with you on that. But that’s why we have to asked God to remove the blinders and asked for the gift of discernment. I recently came across a man that was just like this his background was he use to be pastor but somewhere down the line he lost his faith. But I’m telling you my spirit of discernment was strong when it came to him, God wouldn’t even allow conversation to flow naturally like it started off because I prayed. Any time I come across a man. I go to God and asked him if he’s not for me or doesn’t have my best interest at heart remove him and it never fails God removed whomever it is. So when it comes to that, our spirit of discernment has to be stronger than our flesh, you won’t be able to tell
If he’s Christ like or if he’s the devil dressed up
In everything we’ve ever wanted. And we have to pray and make sure that our ears and hearts or sensitive to God’s voice and his presence.! When we are more concerned with pleasing God Instead of people our choices in life becomes more easier.

Individuals can marry but we have to become one flesh, one mind, and one heart beat in order for the marriage to succeed. Submission is humility, we obey out of reverence which is another word for love and honor. We can't dumb down what God has established for us, it's for us!!!!

This was so gooood. I was hesitant to watch due to how my spirit responded to the Tavia and Jewel episode. But I like what you're doing here. So I had Ephesians 5 read at my wedding and referenced it often throughout my marriage of 28 years. I so wish I had the nuggets of wisdom and insight shared during this episode when I was trying to live out this scripture in my marriage, I lacked understanding on what it meant to be married in the context of Ephesians 5. Me and my husband had the wrong focus and we were headed in wrong direction then God put an end to our marriage by calling him home. So I watch this marriage vow series as a retrospective summarizing lessons learned and opportunities for growth and healing.

I’m reading a book called Love and Respect and this episode content resonates almost exactly with the content of that book. It’s based on Eph 5:33. The command to love the wife isn’t dependent on whether the wife respects the husband. And vice versa, the command to respect the husband isn’t dependent on whether the husband loves the wife. But if both strive to do their parts, in obedience to God…then it would be a little easier to always go back to praying/relearning/aligning to marriage as God would have it. 🙏🏾 So help me God, when the time and the man from you comes 🙏🏾

I also LOVE that you contribute your own (hard) learned lessons about relationship and marriage, like the one about sitting down, and having a review of the relationship (mentioning what is working, and what isn't), like a company does. I LOVE that I am learning not only from you, but from your guests as well. So please keep that way of interviewing up.
I also appreciate their wisdom, how they complement each other, their transparency, and just how they are with each other. Their body language is very telling (and interesting): Ashley reaches out to Carrington often (physical touch), which he reciprocates. 2--They don't interrupt each other (no need to dominate, or control the conversation), 3--They seem to have a lot of respect for each other, 4--They know where they want their marriage to go, and be like, 5--Their relationship, and obedience to God. 6--Their humility. 7--They also compliment each other, when one says something praiseworthy. 8--They actually like each other. 9--They don't want drama in their marriage. I could say more, however I will stop here (for now).
Tom Bilyeu (an entrepreneur who also produces great RUclips content) (re)posted a Twitter text of a gentleman who married the love of his life at 54. I'm in my early 50's, and that lets me know that there is hope, even for me (I have never been married, and I don't have children). And If I get married, I want to do it right, AND get it right. My mom wasn't blessed to be in a thriving and loving marriage, and I have seen how it deeply affected her and us, the children, to the point where in my early 50's, I am still unpacking that.
So I know you get confirmation of it daily, but please be assured that you are doing VERY IMPORTANT WORK: people (men and women) like me see and hear men (and women) being vulnerable on your platform. We see married men being respectful to their wives (and vice versa). We hear men address their past mistakes, and what they have learned in the process (same for women). We see you (and hear you) being transparent, we (I) learn the importance of healing, counseling, and of changing our mindset, so we (I) can learn that I deserve to have a great relationship, and eventually, a great marriage (and not sabotage it).
My hope in (relationships) is being restored. My hope in breaking generational curses (in my family) is being restored (it can start with me). I feel encouraged to see what God is doing in other people's lives (He can do it for me as well), and I'm learning to be patient (in life, and in relationships), because I want the best (for me), if I ever get married.
I'm also from an African country (Cameroon), and so what I am learning watching your podcast, makes me wonder how that can be taught (by example especially), back home. And as you know, you have viewers in different parts of the globe, so you know your podcast is impacting a lot of people (I don't need to tell you that, I am sure).
This is (another) long message (I didn't intend for it to be), however I just wanted to express (once again), my gratitude for your obedience to God, and for your willingness to take the time needed to let your guests (and yourself) express what needs to be expressed in these episodes (this one is almost 1h21mns long, which tells me that a lot was shared, and many grounds covered). I look forward to your episodes every Wednesday, and every Wednesday, I am reminded of the many reasons why.
God bless you (and your family), and may He continue to bless the work of your hands 🙏

This is what Douglas Lumsden wrote on his Twitter account (I apparently can't post the link on RUclips):
      For what it's worth:
I was 43 when I got my PhD
I was 51 when I started my dream job.
I was 54 when I married the love of my life.
I was 55 when I ran my first marathon.
      I was 67 when I self-published my first book.
      I turn 70 next year, and I can't wait.
So if you 're thinking it's not happening fast enough for you, hey, maybe you are just a late bloomer like me (to which I say, yes, I definitely am).

Carrington & Ashley are such an inspirational Kingdom couple and I am always here to take in the wisdom they pour out! This series has been blessing me! Thank you so much for being obedient and taking us on this journey with these amazing couples/guests.I'm excited to see who's next.

"God develops and grows us!" Is a word. Thanks Carrington!
"To obey" historically can mean a controlling and abusive environment for women. Some men have abused the word and meaning of obey. Therefore, as women has gained their power, they have reacted and are scared of being mistreated when that term comes into play. As men do their own emotional work leading to healing, they will understand that it is a privilege to be in a position where someone obeys you, and it does not represent a "less than" posture of their wives.

    • @imanii4u
      @imanii4u Год назад

There’s a reason that some men abuse the scripture. They don’t fully understand it. Please know the difference between Kingdom principles, cultural norms and context of the time (i.e., Greco-Roman household codes, Renaissance laws concerning women). In God’s Kingdom, we are to submit one to another. It’s a harmonious and healthy relationship mutually interdependent. See Genesis 1. The fall created a hierarchy between God’s creation. Sadly, we still believe and practice domination over other human beings.

Cherish....🤔 this was thought provoking for me... cherish is defined in my mind as something/someone to be respected, valued, adored, honored, held sacred, and protected.... something worth sacrificing for... you said something one time that ive struggled with most of my relationships years.... you werent the first man to say it... you were just the first one to say it and I meditated on it... you said something about not treating every man a certain way.... I struggle because when I see or partner with a Black man... I dont know how to just see HIM... I see him... I see his father... i see his grandfather, i see his great grandfather.... I see before me the legacy of our men... I see the great they are... i see the strength, the power.... I see the plight for freedom... I see the torch being carried... I CHERISH OUR MEN/PEOPLE... you made that statement and I had to dig deep to find out why I treated them this way...it was because I cherished US as a unified people... it was bigger than me or the man that I cherished... it was the joining together for the PURPOSE and MISSION of RESTORATION... to take back EVERYTHING that was taken.... I didnt cherish my relationship with God because I didnt know I needed too...now I KNOW it didnt work with the others because it was KINGDOM BUILT OR ORDAINED... I was their PREFERENCE NOT THEIR PURPOSE Partner.. cherish....you cant cherish something/someone... if you dont know what/who/whom it is...or from which it came... cherish the journey...the experience...the purpose... in order to cherish the person... just my 20 sents on it 😂😂😂👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I don't know why 1 year, but that was it. My husband reaction, lead me to my decision to leave permanently - a divorce. During this time, I meet God, and He's opened doors to counseling, your podcast , and more that poured into by soul. Thank you for this episode. I learned a lot. ❤

“Another One” (DJ Khalid voice)!!! I throughly enjoyed this episode. I’ve been watching Ashley’s RUclips videos for a couple of years now. 1 Corinthians 13 is my favorite scripture. So much so, that I have it plastered all through my house, to remind me how to love and receive love. The scripture describes Gods undying, unwavering LOVE for us. When Carrington talked about submission ➡️God ➡️each other and then about being chosen and loved by God. I lost it. I had to pause the video. The tears wouldn’t stop. I look forward to experiencing this kind of love with my future spouse. God is faithful. Blessings 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Absolutely amazing podcast!🔥 Love the way Carrington broke down how JESUS said to obey and the submission role. The husband obey and submit to Christ and the wife THEN obey and submit to him! And when Carrington said respect is Love therefore not just the husband requires respect but as so do the wife. Remember the man is the head so if he is in the position of Christ he will be the example! Then the wife will follow if you are on one accord and representing a Christ-Centered marriage! May God continue to bless this lovely couple...I have set my posture to give God permission to move me as he pleases!🙏🏾

You all are in my head lol I just told my cousin I feel like couples should do a check up and check in with one another to see if one another is still one the same page with their needs and wants from and with the relationship, wanting to be married, long term and short term goals. I too am preparing for the spouse God has for me so I received so much from The Browns' wisdom and testimony. My prayer, Laterras, is for what God is doing in you, for you, through you and around you. God is preparing your future wife in the same way, and in His perfect timing He will bring forth that divine connection. I declare and decree that the world WILL be filled with Kingdom marriages as God intended. The lost will see His true Body of Christ as THE model of what REAL marriage covenant is and should be. I love this couple! Carrington 🙌🏽. He seems wise beyond his years. Listening to him speak, makes seeking a man of God a priority. I mean, you always want someone that believes in God, but his understanding of the word and application surpasses belief. It’s intentionality at work, it’s light shinning through him at work, it’s God’s will at work. He said it best when he spoke about a man submitting to the will of God first, before expecting a woman to submit to him (that was a drop the mic moment). This was truly an amazing episode. I agree with you, I’ll have to watch this again and take notes 💖

I love when Carrington spoke about quitting football for God and how it all played out. It reminded me that God knows us soo intimately that he knows the exact seed to plant in our minds and hearts that will propel us into action that aligns with his will. Not everyone would have reacted the same way to "...Being a good person won't get you into heaven..."
or even taken any action at all. But our omniscient God knew him sooo well that he knew that in that moment those words were all that needed to be said.
    Isn't God just AMAZING!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Wowwww!! I tell people all the time when we understand how to love God first then ourselves second then we know how to love other’s. Love in most people’s eyes is what can you do for me ? Most of us haven’t seen it growing up, so therefore we don’t know what it looks like. So that’s why when a man go upside a woman’s head most women think that it’s love because of what they saw. When I was a child my mom was in an abusive relationship I seen her get beat. However as a teenager I knew that wasn’t right and I said they no one could ever put their hands on me and I accept it as a form of love. As an adult no man can ever put his hands on me and think he’s going stay in my life. No form of abuse is love, it’s that simple.
