Is The SwitchBot K10+ ACTUALLY Smart? // Robot Vacuum And Mop

  • The SwitchBot K10+ is the smallest robot vacuum and mop that I've worked with. Its compact design affects everything about its performance so it's very different to evaluate this versus other robot vacuum and mop combo units. Also, SwitchBot has been great at home automation for a long time, but does that expertise in the smart home translate to a smart (or not) robot vacuum?
Don't be fooled by its size though, as this small wonder packs a punch. With a base station that can fit anywhere and hold 70 days' worth of junk, and a compact 3200 mAh battery, the SwitchBot K10 Plus is ready to clean up any mess.

I picked one up on Black Friday and love it. Perfect for my small apartment. Mopping function is good enough for my little place too. Wouldn't use it to mop up any big spills or anything but to give it a bit of a clean it works. T

And it COULD fall down the stairs. You can set up no go zones once you do your map to stop that from happening. It's just an extra step :)

What an incredibly thorough review! It's really good to know about its steer issue. I'm grateful it works with Shortcuts, but only being able to start it and have it return to its base is obviously limiting. Hopefully they can expand this integration.

Sitting here watching my Roborock Revo going around with full mopping spin pads. Got it on prime day. A mopping self empty function and good mopping for all our tile was critical. So far impressed. Got it for a bit over 600 US.onsale

I'm testing mine, I wish I had seen this earlier, because first thing I did was clean the corridor along the stairs, with a 2 meters drop... But it didn't fall! it was scary because it goes really aggressively towards the void and then brake, possibly because the fall sensor is mid body and not in front, but I had it clean that aree for a dozen times now, without a no-go zone set, and it didn't fell once!

I like the format. What I really want to know as well: Does this device need internet to run (i.e. can it be controlled local)? I would like to know that from any 'smart' home device; if a device needs internet the device is a no go for me.

Nice One Brian. I started thinking about getting a Robot Vacuum on the lead up to Black Friday. Have watched several reviews of this since and you have covered so much that others did not (how to trigger it starting to clean). One thing I have not been able to see yet is does this Switchbot product require the Switchbot Hub like other products?
The compact size is the seller here for me, but I do think it is slightly overpriced. On black Friday the K10 had a discount but so did all the others and the K10 was then only €50 cheaper than the Dreame L10 which has real rotating mops. I still have not decided which route to take, small unit Vs the option to Mop, and none of them fit my wish to have it completely hidden away from view under the kitchen sink. I think this small unit and base station would allow me to cut away the kitchen unit under the sink with the Robot then just driving under the door into the unit.
I liked your award at the end of the video. Will this just be an award yes or No. Or will you be giving Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to allow some Scale of Brians Approval? I think GSB would be a nice feature.

      Hey Gary,
The K10+ doesn't require SwitchBot's hub to operate, but do understand that those automations with other SwitchBot products likely will!

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 месяцев назад

Yeahhhh I wish they'd done something about that. The mapping is the only part of the process that it matters though, cause once you do that and set a no-go zone it's fine.

@@AutomateYourLife That still makes me nervous though. I’ve had one take a full flight tumble after ignoring an invisible wall that it had obeyed many times before. Maybe that time it was just an inevitable glitch that can’t be predicated or prepared for.

I like the format, Brian. My feeling, though is paying $500 for a vacuum that is so limited and has such a crappy mopping system won't work for most these days. You can get a "real" smart vacuum, like a Roborock or several others that is actually useful for a couple of hundred more dollars. I think saying this one "sucks less" kind of fits. Also, since I'm on my third vacuum I've found that aside from cleaning the desired room or group of rooms, that scheduled automations aren't really tat great. As you indicated in the beginning unless you make a quick pass through the area you want cleaned, it isn't going to do what you want all the time. Its not just about going around obstacles but it's cleaning under those obstacles and under moveable furniture that matters. I have found that cleaning our kitchen on schedule after we go to bed is very helpful. Anyway, thanks for the review and thanks for something that sucks less than your average review... . Sorry, but I couldn't help myself with that one, my friend.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  6 месяцев назад

Yeahhhh, smart vacuums in general need a push from behind. They still don't fit the whole lifestyle we're after, do they? I'm not sure I hit on that point enough here.
Gotta work on the format a bit more I think! :)

@@AutomateYourLife Brian, I don't want to think about how cost-effective these things are...for me, anyway. I don't think I'd be very happy with myself if I took the total cost of the three smart vacuums I've had divided by the number of hours they've spent vacuuming for me...ouch! I'm still intrigued by them, though. Maybe if I was a RUclips "influencer"... ;)

Swithcbot seem to do the things the do very well. I just wish a vacuum like this would turn off those rotating brushes on Carpet. I don't feel carpet needs to be brushed and I am sure they'd last longer if not wearing out brushing carpets. Over all, I really like Switchbot products in general. The seem to just work.
I have seen a lot of robot vacuum reviews, and it seems a lot will not detect those medium and small size objects on the floor, like remotes and those gifts the dog leaves behind.

    Sir,
I have a LOT of professional experience with the s/w side of sensor and control systems for devices. When it came to choosing a robot vacuum, I picked the cheapest I could find (< $300 CDN). It has no mapping features and it only vacuums.
    It was an experiment.
It runs off of a timer (the manual is obviously written in some other language and then the same person did their best translating it to English, I chuckle every time I read it.).
It just does a random pattern until the battery gets too low and then it has a seek mode it does to find the docking station. It docks and recharges. The next time interval comes along and off it goes. This means that there is no setup, no mapping... I just charged it up and turned it on. DONE!!
It knows when it is getting dangerously close to a void (staircase, although I did watch it once obviously decided to end it's life of servitude and launch itself into the void).
The timer is 24 hours, it has no concept of days so every 24 hours it goes off, once. Over the course of a week the random pattern suffices in getting the dirt, dust, crumbs and fallout from my cooking and eating. I have a medium size 3 bedroom house and sometimes I take it upstairs and let it loose.
I have no pets or in fact anyone else in this house.
    What it doesn't like:
    Shoe laces
    Power or USB Cables
my really old style cold air return grills,, the sensor can't really see them and once its on them, it has problems driving off of them
Rug Fringe (I have a Persian carpet in my living room, otherwise I have hardwood floors with occasional area rugs)
As far as I'm concerned this experiment was a success. My house is vacuumed regularly. I don't care about the noise or the timer since I just start it up when I leave for a few hours. If I have a contract that takes me away for regular hours I then set the timer for when I'm gone.
    Cheers!!

good luck contacting tech suppoort if, say, your brand new Robot Vacuum K10+ keeps getting a "brush stuck" error. They don't answer thier phone AT ALL..... and email support is spotty and they ask for details to setup a repair then stop responding.
