I honestly really really got deeper into Bob Dylan because of him and I just want to thank him. Really felt what he's tryin to convey about Bob Dylan here.
The first official recording of this song by Bob was in 1963. That was *sixty two* years ago. And this song, this music, still hits as powerfully today as (I can only assume) it did back then. Compare that to last week's "musical" act, who will be forgotten in 6 months. Music means something more than just twerking to a beat. Real music is right here, in this performance. Thanks Tim, and thank you, Bob Dylan. A real musician.
While Dylan did perform this self-written song in 1963, it was not a song that was released on any studio recordings in the 60's. A version recorded during an April 12, 1963 concert was finally released on "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol. II" in 1971.
@@aljustal6554 Which is what I said. I didn't say "first official RELEASE" ... I said first official RECORDING. Beyond "official" release, it was massively bootlegged because of its popularity. There's something about singing without a lot of gimmicks with lighting and jumping around. Just singing with a guitar and small group of musicians. They used to do that more often on TV.
Damn leave Glorilla alone, music can take on lots of different forms. Not everything has to be crazy deep and artistic all the time.
@@aljustal6554 Which is what I said. I didn't say "first official RELEASE" ... I said first official RECORDING. Beyond "official" release, it was massively bootlegged because of its popularity. Which I would attribute to why it was tapped to be included on a Greatest Hits in the first place, since it was never a "greatest hit" without being on an actual release. lol
@@garfieldloverforever I'm fine to call it something else. Just don't call it music. Don't dare put it in the same category as what Bob and Tim did here. Not even REMOTELY the same thing.
It's like when you clap and adore your child's recital at school. You know it's not really that great, but they did their best, in their own way, it's a great thing. But *YOU KNOW* it ain't professional.
same-same
@@TheNudeBrewer Okay, be old and boring then 🫶
The 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Bob Dylan “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition". His music and lyrics will live forever.
Thanks again Timothy. These songs should have been in the film. Your talent saved the film.
Thanks, Timothee & SNL! That tugged at my heart! Used to sing this one while touring folk clubs & festivals in Europe in the 70’s w/ my buddy Silkie Miller. Kudos! JJ Dion
One of my favourite songs of all time… Timothee is an amazing artist…👏👏
Best musical guest in a while.
Haven’t seen the movie yet, but this performance makes me want to. Can hear the similarities in voice timber. Great performance and homage to the great Bob Dylan.
It really is incredible, truly and I was utterly shocked at how well he does. Fully deserved of his Oscar nomination.
yes please try and see it. somehow. it's amazing
I'm the furthest thing from a Dylan fan. But the movie is must see, he's phenomenal in it!
Agreed
Go see it in the theatre. You will be transfixed. it's so uplifting and humane and beautiful
Well done! Joyous to see three of Dylan’s deeper cuts presented wonderfully and a great way to introduce a new generation of fans to the beauty of Dylan’s music
I learned of this song from the Walking Dead over 10years ago. I lost my Mother shortly after and this song is forever cemented to her death and my loss of love 😔
RIP, My dearest Mama
Put that on Spotify in Timothée cover I'll listen to it on loop every day ❤
Listen to Dylan’s version! Timothee is fabulous but he’s only trying to copy Dylan’s voice, intonation, etc. here….Go to the source.
He has an old soul and can do it all!
um excuse me this slapped but like in a cup of warm tea that you had years ago in a vacation destination with an old love kinda way
This guy is bringing Bob, and therefore good music, back to the stage. Hope it fosters a whole new generation of Dylan fans
Second verse - sublime sketch of that kind of loneliness. Haven't heard better since the year it came out...
My respect for Timothee as an artist on all fronts has grown immensely in the past year!
These are the things that truly impress me. The outcome of hard work
Its nice to live among such great artists.
Timothy truly honored one of the greatest American songwriters Mr Bob Dylan. We in America know Bob is an icon, a true American treasure. Timothy sang this song stripped down to its true, unfiltered , simplistic form. Genius. This is definitely one of the very best SNL musical performances of the last 50 years. Thank you
Agree
Timmy with the Dylan "Deep Cuts" WOW!
He is an absolute superstar
Just want to say that while of course TC may be talented, he was given everything he needed to BECOME talented. These performances are the final product after years and years of study and practice and learning and practice and play and support. We all have so much untapped magic/talent that we never get to express/realize; we're stuck in the grind just surviving. Just a shout-out to all the incredible talent waiting in each of you watching this video.
this is so beautiful ❤
Best music ive heard on snl in 40 years
the way he's better at performing live than some actual singers
There's something about singing without a lot of gimmicks with lighting and jumping around. Just singing with a guitar and small group of musicians. They used to do that more often on TV. Chalamet isn't a dynamic singer, as he has a soft voice, but it is well suited for this type of song and arrangement.
it should be criminal that half the world hasn’t gotten to see A Complete Unknown yet!!
truly, i have to wait till end of february for it to be in the cinemas for me
Wow this is deep im so glad more people across age groups will discover Timmy and what a wonderful actor he is. Miss Stevens was the first film I saw him in years ago and thought wow, I've followed his career ever since. He is full of self deprecating humility.
I love how James Blake is just there on the piano
Gorgeous. Dylan is really one of a kind.
This is everything Dylan would want. I'm very impressed!!!!
Terrific job Timothee. A beautiful song. I'm always up to hearing a Dylan. Thank you!
Tears at the end of this beautiful performance. Damn. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I've never seen Chalamet in ANY movie. I saw A Complete Unknown because I love Dylan. The movie was great and Chalamet was EXCELLENT.
He's good in everything he's done, watch some of them!
I would see any movie Timothee Chalamet is in. He is an amazing actor in many different roles.
Check out Wonka
@ Wonka was my favourite film of 2023 it's truly wonderful.
I encourage you to watch his other movies. He is excellent in them all.👍👍
Beautiful Chalamet. My heart opened. Your love and devotion to Bob Dylan streams through my ears.
Thank you 🕊️💐
Yeah I'm definitely going to check out the original song after hearing this. This feels so gentle.
