- Pac-Man from Atari (1982)
for Atari 400/800/XL/XE
This video show the Datasoft and U.S. Gold versions (1985) including Intermissions at :

The Atari (1982) version is exactly the same but no intermissions !
I loved the Atari 8-bit version of Pac-Man, it was far closer to the arcade and a million times better than that awful 2600 cart. I also loved that you could select any stage. I’d start at the keys just for the challenge. Today, this cart might not look perfect and has a few differences from the coin-op, but it’s a superb translation for 1982. Thanks for sharing!
So much better than the abysmal Atari 2600 port. I actually kinda like the ghost colors. Makes the game all the more unique.
The 800 version had perhaps the best sound of any version
I had the 600XL. There were no “mini movies” between boards in that version!☹️
I like the 5200 eating dot sound
I bet Billy Mitchell couldn’t even get top 10 in this either without cheating.
Watching this brought back happy memories . You were obviously good at it. Thank you for sharing this.
I have this one...no surprise there lol.
Just think how cool it was to own this version of Pac-Man years ago.
Speed it up to 1.25. It's perfect.
pac-man never gets old :) it looks similar to the 5200..:D
Nope, these are Atari's first home computer models. Internal hardware-wise they are the same as the Atari 5200 console.
(and have a normal D9 joystick connector as opposed to the 5200...)
This was the logical next step for Atari, improved gaming and entry level computing. How sad they didn't see it.

Yes! ;)
The pac man game we all wanted but never got. Looks amazing, when he eats pellets it sounds close to the arcade. Shame about the speed
We did get it, but it was only on Atari 5200 and Atari 8-bit computers, and by extension Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC
It gets pretty fast as you go on. A lot of the 8 bit home atari games started off at a much easier difficulty compared to arcade.
@@owen800xl this, and the video is at PAL speed, watch at 1.25x for NTSC
1:48, This sound is so creepy
Weridly enough it sounds more like a C64 than an Atari...
For years this was the only game I had for my Atari 400.
why was that? Did you not want any more games, or was money a problem. Or were you into programming?
This game must've made every Atari 2600 and 5200 owner jealous back in the day. The 2600 version had horrible graphics and sound, and the 5200 version had horrible gameplay with its widely hated joysticks. Like many arcade classics, the Atari computer version got it right on all counts, and was one of the best versions available.
Lol@ the old classic 'didn't quite get the pill before turning round to eat the ghost', I did that so many times myself :)
4:46 dat cutscene doe
Noob
I used to have 2 similar games on my Atari. The first one was named maybe Moustack, in that game I lost my teeth when colliding with a smiling creature and I got my teeth brushed after completing the level. The second game was Twomaze, it had a choice of 3 speeds and it could be played by two players simultaneously.
It also has a different eating sound and has the Character-Nickname screen.
@CooldudeXXL Yeah, mine does not either... I always was disappointed that it did not, that is my only complaint about the atari 8-bit version, even the 5200 does.
@JeffAtariUser
I forgot to mention...
The intermission is on the Datasoft and U.S Gold versions ;)
Play seems a bit sluggish, but really the only problem i see is the inauthentic color of the ghosts. This is not a bad port. If i had an atari 8-bit, i would have jumped on that game.
This emulation seems to be done in PAL setting, all games are slower in PAL compared to NTSC on the A8.
That’s why I prefer using NTSC almost always on the A8, unless the games are more recent and not NTSC compatible. The colours are also wrong because of PAL setting.
This is an emulation done in PAL setting, NTSC would render correct ghost colours and more speed.
Also, today, there is an almost perfect PAC conversion for the A8 called PAC Man arcade: ruclips.net/video/jG3VoTX1S7k/видео.html
@vwestlife
Yes, this version is excellent ... but it would have been much better if the maze had the same proportion than the arcade version ! ;)
Nice video! Liked, and subscribed.
My Cartridge for the 8 bit doesn't show a List of the Ghosts, or play the Intermission. A version for the 5200 or 7800 ported to the 8 bit does though, but the palsy isn't as good the cartridge on the 8 bit
Sweet Memories :)

@attackshow76
Done !
Sorry, there is no box scan or photo in the video... I don't have this game :/
this video makes me want to play pac man again lol
@tom11zz884 Not with the horrible 5200 controllers, though.
I liked this one better than Namco's original, and I HATE the one that started the video game crash.
Best PacMan ever!
The 5200 version of pac man was the best version
wow i didnt know pacman was violent back then???
The second movie scene where the red ghost get's stuck on something and then ripps off a piece of his skin I think that was also blood... weird..
I have learned that the first one was Jawbreaker.
how I miss this
Me Too
This is a slightly slower 5200 version.
retro games ownzzz!!!!!
7:54 CADE A IMAGEM ?!
The 5200 was the best, hands down!
great game, great moments.

i just found an atari 400 in my parents garage and they let me have it, the Atari 400 hooks into a little switch box that goes into the TV right?
Something is not right... I have this same cartridge and when I play on my 800XL it is different. The graphics and sounds are all the same, but I have none of the intermission cut scenes. Including the one at the very beggining of game if you don't play right away, where pacman is being chased by the ghosts and then he gets a power pellet and turns around gets them one at at a time and as he does it shows the points for each one. That is not in my version either. -sigh-
Don't the Ghosts remind ya of little Marshmallows for Cereal?
+Vladd Chambers Yes they do. They had a pacman cereal in the 80's.
Weird!!!
+Vladd Chambers Most of the 80's cartoons had cereals too.
Ugh, recorded in PAL mode. Sooo sloooww....
***** this game exellent of version pacman on tandy
Was the 400 and 800 out before the 2600? If so why was the 2600 version so bad?
Was this particular version on a cartridge or a disk?
John Perna Cartridge
Blinky is a bit too Purple.
That's how the palette from this game is

Poor… emulator way to slow and colours are off…..
Could it be running in PAL mode?
@@ShamrockParticle Possibly. Now to be fair, I made a mistake - I assumed this was the Atari version...I had both the computer and 5200 version back in the day. (the same except the 5200 had the intermissions and played faster). I never played the Datasoft version and I read a couple of people claiming it was slower and choppier - even though it's obviously mostly the same code. So....maybe this is the real speed of the Datasoft version....
