The 21 move mate against someone who just needed to survive 25 isn’t as impressive as the flawless play-by-play recall

Even more impressive, and I've seen Ben do this, is to see him do a blindfold replay of a blindfold game he just finished. As he does the replay, he'll do blindfold analysis of the game, pointing out his opponent's mistakes. When I see this demonstration, I realize I will never make GM.

@@zanti4132 If you are doing chess since 4-5 years old and now youre like 50-60 years old that thing might not be that impressive. Still, we are just playing chess for fun, for exercising our mind, so being an GM is really not that important. We play chess, they ''live '' chess.

Not too hard for a GM, esp. just 21 moves. It's a skill everyone can build up. Get a book of miniatures and practice and you can improve at it.

    • @zanti4132

@@voteforno.6155 Yeah, recalling one game is a piece of cake for a GM. When GMs do simultaneous exhibitions, in which they typically take on 25 to 35 players simultaneously, they can usually replay every game in its entirety after the simul. The really mind-blowing stunt is when a GM does a blindfold simul, playing 25 or more players blindfolded. (The current record is 48.) For a GM that can pull this off, I'd imagine replaying every game is the easy part.

When you've spent every day for close to half a century playing the same game, your brain can just remember the moves. It honestly gets kinda ridiculous. I have friends (IMs) who close their eyes "to see the board better" because they don't get distracted by what's happening around them when they play in their mind.
