Here are sum things to remember: Race, race is emphasized ALOT in this book especially this chapter. Kino thinks of the doctors race and his race before knocking on the door. He thinks about how, not the doctor, but the doctors race treated, not him, but his race. The servant himself refuses to speak his own language looking down on it as lower class, he specifically points out to the doctor that there were indians at the door and that they never had money even though he himself was an Indian. He seems to have completely disconnected himself from his race due to it being labelled as 'lower class' The doctor first looks at Kino's race then Kino's money, not once did he consider the patient being a baby. When the doctor refuses to treat them, you can tell that Kino associates it with race. We can clearly see that even Juana and kino look down upon themselves and their people. The method they use to try to heal the bite is good, but they considered it too simple to work. They think that in their society money can get you anywhere and knowledge is power. It is implied that they didnt have much faith in their method because it wasnt from a doctor and it didnt cost any money. Once again Juana did not pray for the recovery of the baby but for a perl that could pay for the doctor's treatment. The treatment, since it came from a doctor whom they believed knew more, is what they belived in. Once again showing that in their society, knowledge is light.
What a garbage book, holy shit fucking SJW propaganda, no wonder adults cant remember the last time they read a book, the books in school i all this boring ass not accurately historical story telling bullshit. If a teacher wants a student to learn about the injustices native Americans have to face in America which are a lot then fucking put a book that is a accurate historical piece, if that shit is too boring, THEN DONT FORCE US TO READ IT, and make read something that we would like to read, so IF we think that history is something that interests us we can read about it, but forcing a group of kids that a majority of the kids dislike discourages them from looking into different books that they would like.
shit book that combats racism with racism. Teaches us a narrative, or thing that we already know about, the horrible treatments that native Americans had to face. A horrible piece of writing.
I actually am because it was recommended to me by my library, but I think it's decent. Not amazing, but I always like Steinbeck's descriptions. I prefer Of Mice And Men, we did that at school
