How can you not love basildonk, especially the dangerous escalator (now cruelly torn down from its rusrty concrete coil) and the "controversial" sports sculpture which became a chav's climbing frame... I still love bazz in all its forms!
Loopyloualways and their Easter egg sales! I remember Woolworths when it had a big counter at the back of shop where you could buy stationary items. Before the refit. When there was a seperated Boots and next door Timothy Whites, Richards clothes shop on the corner by Brooke House. So many pleasant memories but sadly now it really is depressing. Hotch potch of poundshops, pawn shops and dubious looking minimarkets. Big names leaving. Marks and Spencer, Maplins and Toys r Us amongst the latest. Being replaced with B and M store. Sums it up unfortunately.

I used to live in a house owned by the keyboard player in Depeche mode many years ago. I also found a diary which belonged to a member of the group. It was interesting reading. I wish I'd kept it..
Having grown up in Essex, there is nothing more comforting than to go shopping in Romford or Basildon. There, one can almost forget that this country is being overrun with foreign immigrants.
It might look like a dive to outsiders, but it's home. Been a few years since it looked like that though. The metal man statue-thing is now in Wat Tyler park, the escalators to Basildon Bowl were removed after many an accident, and some shops have changed. Still as miserable and grey as ever though :P
The metal statue you see at 0:39 is gone. The Woolworths is obviously gone, and the escalators at 0:18 which lead up to bowling and quaser and gone too :P So it's somewhat different.
i'm a spanish guy and i may live in basildon doing an internship next year, but all i read about is that is full of chavs. Well, i'm used to them as i lived in glasgow before, but...is this really a nice place to live?? thanks
For your Cornwall ont vid I have a suggestion , when you stop at a stop light , either pause the camera or edit the traffic stay out . You can't believe how irritating it is to sit and wait at a Videoed Traffic Light !
Such amazing perception on your part. I can see several women pushing baby buggies and yet you're able to tell that they are single and from your tone carelessly single. Or maybe, just maybe they happen to have been on their own that day because their other half was at work, at home, just nipped into a different store on their own to look around etc. But you might be right. They might be single through choice or unfortunate circumstances. Such a short clip of video and yet so much to discuss!

I hear ya-Simon; Though I'm orig' from N.London, I've lived in Alberta (Calgary, High Level) and in the East Kootenay's (Invermere) & Vancouver Island (Qualicum Beach) (B.C.). Oh yeah, there's some major-diff's'.. Unfortunately, it was 'too different' for my wife and soon returned back to Basildon.
