Fitted a brand new cylinder and then offers to convert the boiler to a combi which give instant hot water, meaning there's no need for a cylinder, right?
Well, you could still have a cylinder and not plumb in the hot water side of the combi. Which is just as well if you aren't going to check that the water pressure and flow are sufficient, which he won't!
@The Poet McTeagle The manufacturers merchants etc will not change the name of the boiler just because you choose to use it in an unusual way. It would still have the secondary heat exchanger and so it would still be a combination boiler whether used that way or not. What they would probably ask though is why you want to buy a combi boiler in order to connect it to a cylinder. There could be a case made for running a kitchen tap from a combi and having a cylinder for a power shower (though this would be the kind of setup you would probably end up with if you already had a combi boiler and then decided you wanted a power shower or a second bathroom and not applicable in the case of the video), but generally I would agree with the OP. That said, if a gas fitter has a stolen or secondhand combi they want to flog, then it makes perfect sense that they would want to connect it to the existing water system.

Had an awful job done by a gas engineer. Gas Safe came out and investigated. The investigator did a detailed report and sent it to HSE whose only concern was that the engineer was not properly registered. The engineer registered retrospectively. That was it. So gas safe and HSE will effectively do absolutely nothing.

In all honesty, seeing an old hot water cylinder like that says to me its likely the sacrificial anode has gone, usually resulting in it chewing through an immersion element every 6 months, I've never told a customer they HAVE to replace it but I usually let them know. Also I've seen this 'losening the nut' trick before on another rouge show, if I turned up to a job and I found a lose nut that suddenly gave out WITH something inside blocking I'd be asking questions as to how the hell something like that could have happened...
A huge problem in this country is we have in recent times started to treat skilled engineers and tradesman as second class citizens. If you go and”work” in an office you must be so much better than skilled people right????. Wrong. So what you find now is the old skills have gone and because the kids now are not interested in learning worthwhile skills we end up with vile con men like this man. We need to get back to where we once were. Skilled people were treated with a bit more respect

Marc Furniss Not necessarily. Most clients are understanding regarding costings when excessive amounts of materials and fittings are required and would'nt feel comfortable having a small independent trader forking out thousands from his own pocket to pay for said fittings. Granted, small jobs like the cylinder change, there should'nt really be a draw beforehand.
Had an engineer out to fix my Vallant boiler 2 years ago. He told me he could fix it but the boiler was 15 years old and really needed replacing. I said id think about it and let him know the next day. He charged me a call out fee of 40 quid for 10 minutes just diagnosing the problem. Rang another engineer for a second opinion who said the boiler should be fine for another number of years yet and he fixed the boiler for £230 including the part (PCB) which was £180 and two years later its still going strong.
He also apparently WAS previously Gas Safe. He's qualified, but hasn't renewed his registration (by the sound of it). He might be perfectly good at servicing a boiler, but we don't know.
