Wow, This is incredible. Those big beefy parts AND TOOLS! to do a man's job in a man's machine in a man's world and I bet 90% of my statement is now politically incorrect.
1800 ft-lbs on the crab nuts. I wonder how many times they can be torqued before they're stretched too much? What was the orange tool you put down into the injector bore?
I’ve been doing this kind of work for 25+ years and we’ve never changed any crab studs unless one was broken when we pulled it apart. Then you’re supposed to change all 4 on that power assembly according to the manual, but we usually just change the two on the one side that had the broken one. Never had any issues with those studs breaking other than just occasionally one here or there.
I got to meet Paul and Linus last year out on the WMRR. Great people, neat little shortline
Fascinating video, Chris. Thanks for sharing! The scale of the parts in these engines is just insane.
Detroit Diesel Whistles.
I found this wonderful channel through Mike Finnegan!
Thats really funny, I am the one that sent him the 567 valve, Chris put this video together for me, he was a fellow car nut as well!
Great video Chris. I'm going to share it around with friends.
Me gustan demasiado los motores EMD donde puedo conseguir los manuales del 567, 645. 645 E3, 710, 7103G ayuda por favor y excelente video
Narration, explaining what some of the less obvious parts are, would have really imporved this video.

Amazing!
Where can I buy one of those pistons and rods?

Must use new hardware everytime.
Piston holding tool, there is a 3/8" UNC (ish) hole in the top of the piston.

That engine is ridiculously and uncommonly clean inside. Looks like it’s been flushed out with diesel fuel or naphtha.
Sweet video! What was wrong with the old cylinder?
