In order to live the two great commandments, we must live contrary to everything the culture tells us will make us happy. This is the truth that I have been working on internalizing lately and I think it’s worth sharing.

what a new perspective and it's so true, "we are not pleasure-centered enough, we settle to the world's paltry joys at the expense of giving our lives to pursue our deepest and most lasting joy and in settling for the trivial pleasures of this world we undermine both of our chief callings in life the two great love commandments that we have, to love God with everything that we have, and to love others as ourselves. In fact, it's only as we pursue our highest joy that we are driven to enact these loves essential but counterintutive point that we make in christian hedonism."

May the Lord return quickly! Amen. God is merciful. He always forgives. Never be ashamed to take your failures to him. He is for you, not against you! God is with you in the storm. He knows your troubles, he hears you! He is for you, on your side, always! It may feel silent at times, but he’s holding you close! May the Lord return soon! We are drawing closer. He is coming! Believe and trust in the Lord, you will be saved. Period. May the Lord bless you all! Hang in there family. Stay strong. It is not easy following the Lord. We are scoffed at. We give up our earthly dreams, our fleshly desires. What the enemy offers is short lived, but heaven is forever! Life may seem or be unfair, but God is with you! Always remember that. Things may get better or worse for you, but a kingdom awaits you! Finish the race! Repent daily and carry your cross. This world is fading fast. Your troubles are temporary! New channel here, I’d appreciate any kind of support. Don’t give up! God loves you so much! So do I. The Lord bless you!!

9:20 I forget that other people I interact with or watch on social media (especially on the explicitly Christian side of things) are experiencing inflation too 😅

Something I'm struggling to grasp. "Sell all you have and follow me." What is the metaphorical "all" here, because people are really good at making people feel guilty for not doing enough, but not very good at saying what exactly is enough.
I'll clarify a bit that I'm in the process of better understanding my belief in what I'm saying as well as following, while moving beyond the simple belief that it exists. It's quite obvious the 'all' here is subjective because a grand sum of zero people sell their entirety of life's possessions (you have a RUclips channel, house and car for example) for the sake of giving alms or feeding the poor.
People need guidance. Blunt conviction works to a point, but once people are here after you bludgeoned them with guilt over how far they've fallen they need an example. I've fallen. I'm ready for an example.

I think that passage is specifically meant for whom he’s talking to. God calls us to be generous and to consider all we have as his, so surrender it to him and if he asks for it, give it. Walk in the spirit and he will lead you. Don’t let conviction lead you deeper into staring at self and experience, instead look at what Jesus says about you, and believe with faith in what he says will happen and says about you.
If none of this helps, I’m sorry, but this is what I know.

To be fair, this is a snippet of an entire sermon, so it is incomplete by nature.
I understand your point though, and I think Ptr. John also makes note somewhere in a different video how not all of us are called to a life of actually living like a monk, but rather in our own communities, our own situations, in our own callings we are called to put everything aside to pursue God of utmost importance (Matthew 6:33) as He is our ultimate joy.
I think it also makes sense in thinking of 1 Corinthians 10:31 that way. We are all called to different callings whether it is to be successful in business or to be humble economically, but still we are given by God a stewardship of our time, money, relationships, and skills in which we all cultivate and offer unto Him for His glory, with our heavenly reward in mind.
      I hope this helps!

It is not wrong to be motivated in part by wanting to get treasures for ourselves after death.

We should follow Gods law and do good deeds to please God, not to get treasures in heaven. But I see what you’re saying

    • @maxaplin4204

@@revenantpneuma3636 I believe it is both. We do it to please God AND to get treasures in heaven. These motives don't contradict each other.
      In Matt 6:20-21 Jesus teaches:
'But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.'
See how in the first sentence Jesus tells us to store up treasures in heaven. And the connective word 'for' at the beginning of the next sentence gives the reason for storing up treasure: it is because our heart is where our treasure is. This strongly implies that we should be motivated (in part) by wanting to get hold of this treasure.

@@maxaplin4204 that means your heart will be in heaven, not with your treasure exclusively in heaven....

@@revenantpneuma3636 The very treasure we speak of is God. Hence in Genesis the LORD says to Abraham, I am thy shield and thy exceeding great reward. In essence we should be motivated by a reward, inasmuch as that reward is God and the things he has promised to those who serve him. Otherwise we act like his promises don't mean anything.

    • @maxaplin4204
      @maxaplin4204 2 года назад

@@revenantpneuma3636 When Jesus says 'where your treasure is, there your heart will be also', the idea is that the treasure will attract the heart to where the treasure is. In other words, Jesus is saying that your heart will be in heaven BECAUSE your treasure is there.
And Jesus clearly sees nothing objectionable about this. So this passage clearly implies that part of our motivation for doing good should be for the prospect of reward after death.
We see something similar in the life of Jesus as recorded in Heb 12:2:
'For the joy that lay before him [Jesus], he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.'
Of course, the fact that we are motivated by the prospect of gaining great joy after death doesn't mean that this should be our ONLY motivation for doing good. As you rightly said in your first comment, we should do good to please God. But these 2 motivations sit alongside each other. Neither contradicts the other.
