Helpful video, but when I replaced my air cabin filter I could see the top of this fan motor and lubricated it with a couple squirts using a ‘straw’… squeaking solved without disassembling the dash!!

Same. 5 min job to remove the 6x 8mm screws on the cabin filter and in the hole on the passenger side you can access the blower fan and squirt with lubricant. I ran the blower for a few mins once lubricated and put back the cabin filter.

Nice video Sal, I believe the whole blower motor assembly was part of BMW recall program along with Takata driver airbag and positive battery terminal. Good to lube it for that added peace of mind though...Cheers.

Thanks for sharing, yea the recalls have been done by the previous owners luckily. Glad the noise is gone and the better reliability is a bonus for sure. Cheers

The blower motor plug is a recall, not the fan (unless the plug melted and damaged the fan socket too).

This is the correct one. Confirmed in fact because I just just put mine back in after needing the silicone treatment. My fan build date sticker is July 2010, the controller attached is Dec 2018.@@Assimilator1

Found your video 🙂, I'll have to give silicone a shot.
Years ago I did something similar with my e46 330d, only I lubed the fan with WD40, it kinda mostly worked. The only thing was, whilst it smelt nice initially, after a week or so it stank of 'stale' mineral oil for several days! Bloody 'orrible it was!🤢😂

I figure if I’m going to take that off I might as well do a couple other things while I have it off.

I hav a squeaky noise just like you described. I am thinking about getting a new blow motor..... Saw new one around $110~120.....My e90 is 14yrs old w/ low mileage (73,000 only) ........considering 14 yrs of usage + $110 ~120 cost, it might be a good idea to get a new one......I am still thinking ....

New one at that price is a good deal. I’d go for it. Good luck 👍

You can remove the blower motor without removing the plastic duct. I have done it both ways. Leave the duct in place.
