I've worked in a zoo with foxes, both red and arctic. Arctic foxes are absolute assholes and absolutely adorable. When he said they eat everything its true, several times a month, we had to rush to the arctic fox enclosure because someone dropped a glove or something. The foxes would take and eat it if we were not fast enough. Then we would have to put vaseline in their food to help them poop out the parts they can't digest without hurting themselves. We could not let things dangle either from our belts either. They would dart in and snatch whatever it was and run away with it. As casuale geographic said, they literally evolved to do this to polar bears, so they are not worried about doing it to anything else.
I love the fact that you didn't try to skip through the ad you were just going to let it play even though you were trying to bunk it. Then you realized it was something else and actually real wound it to re-watch. Love it
I feel the same way about Raccoons. We had one in the attic that I trapped . When animal control came to take it away it reached it's little arm through the cage at me like, "please don't make me go" and 8 years later I still can't get that image out of my mind. Whenever I think about It I wish I had told the animal control lady that I changed my mind. Even though I know what a terrible idea keeping a wild animal is.
Frist time I saw the AirUp ad, I could help but laugh and remember an old meme in my country. Bsasically a family was so poor, that they would eat plain rice, but have a single fried fish they would pass around to sniff while chewing rice. This would fool you into tasting fish while chewing. It works, and so does airup lol.
It's likely that you have foxes living in your area rn and don't have the faintest clue. The only reason we discovered there were foxes living near us was when our chickens started disappearing. Then one night we've heard commotion outside and went out to our dog Baby holding a dead fox in his mouth with a couple dead chicken half way through a small hole in the fence next to it...
The Physical changes in Orca's in captivity is actually from stress because of their high intelligence. They are being held in horrible conditions against their will and forced to perform for the masses so of course eventually the stress shows on their body and that's why their fin curls over like it does. I think the documentary Blackfish covers this info if you are interested.
@@brigidtheirish Though they are of the family of Dolphins, they are perhaps wired a little different... They are also not allowed to be with their pod, so my stress point still stands, they are kidnapped, stuffed in something not their natural environment and forced to learn and perform actions by someone other than their family.
The pouncing into the snow hunting method does not hurt. The snow has a crust on top, under which it is generally soft, not least because rodents are living there making tunnels to find grasses, seeds (or danged near anything else - they aren't picky at all!). In a very high percentage of pounces, the fax ends up with a nice mouthful of chubby rodent, so it's worth it.
Odds are you had foxes near where you lived (in the US), most people never notice them as they prefer it that way. I live east of Cleveland and foxes are in abundance here. And yet in my 40+ years of life, I have seen maybe 15 of them in the area. In the last few years now I have started seeing coyotes, something I never had seen here before.
Got to hold and pet a fox. Soft, adorable, love their laugh sound. But they do indeed stink. Very musky, like a ferret. I've also held a raccoon and a skunk. More so because they mark things. But the real problem is not the smell, they are SUPER destructive.
I live in Victoria, Australia and while I don’t think I’ve seen a living fox in the wild, I am always seeing them as roadkill. In fact I’d say they’re one of the most common roadkill I see; which, good. They’re invasive and terrible for our ecosystem. I think they’re adorable and in their native habitats they’re fine - but I curse the idiots who introduced them
Belive me there are a ton of them in Portugal and Spain! IM your neighbour, from Portugal and a truck driver! I see alot of them crossing Spain at night, you see alot of wild pigs dear, i have even seen 2 days ago 2 vultures claming a road kill from the road side!
I regularly catch foxes passing by on my security cameras at night here in Louisiana. Occasionally O catch one crossing the road when driving. I’m in a rural/ suburban mix that’s fairly wild, so there is lots of wildlife.
More than a fox. What I really want is a west coast skunk. Because their diets differ from Eastern skunks their scent is different they are almost completely blind but they can be trained to almost be like a house cat.
The foxes where I live in Brighton in the UK are very accustomed to people and very urbanised to the point where you just see them walking next to somebody late at night when they’re going back home after going to the pub. And yes the noises they make when they are mating is horrible 😂.
I have heard stories about family members having foxes for pet, something to do with decenting as a pup, same as a skunk, it kills the odor. The skunk I can verify, not the fox.
What stinky about a fox is their pee and poo. Having 1 fox is like having 20 cats. They'll pee and poo to scent mark everything in your house. Nothing is safe. They'll also steal everything you leave out. So they'd be an outside animal for sure. Not a good house pet. Pee in the guys coffee? Absolutely.
Red Fox/Grey can make cool pets. The pee is the stinky part. They can develop a lighter musky smell when semi-domesticated. The biggest obstacle is the food cashing and burrowing nature. They can be destructive. Your best bet is an outdoor foxy friend that lets you pet em. Keep the mess outside. Though they do get snuggley during winter and like to nap rolled up in a furry ball wherever it's warm.
So the changes in foxes are by-products of domestication. Very cool study based on that program that found that droopy ears and curly tails are key byproducts of domestication. The curlier the tail, the more domesticated it is. Russians proved this between 1970 & 2010. The friendliest mated with the friendliness and after multiple generations- the tail got curlier.
So... Foxes are actual canines. I get why you said that, but I would just point out that retractable claws and their sleep schedule just makes a variation of canid rather than a variation of feline. 😉

Its more likely that droopy ears and curled tails are traits connected with less aggression in DNA.
Genes are complex, and so are personalities.
